I fixed my 𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘆𝘀 myself with £𝟭𝟰 & saved £𝟯𝟮𝟬 which was quoted to refurbish both alloy wheels twice (£80 per wheel). Fix curb rash on alloy wheels and scratched alloys easily.

After realising it was getting too expensive paying someone else my hard earned money to refurbish my alloy wheels, I decided to fix this myself and also make a tutorial showing how I repaired the whole damage to show the process I used to get these battered, scratched, and kerbed diamond cut alloy wheels back to it's former glory.

This is the best video I've seen on this subject - no nonsense, no specialist tools, gives me confidence to have a go at my Merc alloys - F*****G pot-holes are a NIGHTMARE where we live - so many beautiful wheels being destroyed - no matter how careful you are going to get caught out - so this gives me hope! Thanks for the video, well done! I was glad to find this video, as most others use a drill to sand out the scratches, so it's nice to know I can do it all by hand and thus limit the repair to just the areas that need it. Now all I need to do is learn how to properly parallel park!

Slid in the snow and banged both right side wheels of my Fourrunner off of a curb. I have followed your video with one exception- the impact left a sawtooth ridge along the tire contact point. I used a couple of needle files to smooth down the edge, then re-applied sandpaper. Ready for the lacquer application, but already looking very good, and thanks for the tips.

Hello, you made this look so easy. I have two questions. After the sanding process is complete will the section where the repair is made look different from the rest of the wheel or will it be the same color as the rest of the wheel? @@DjBlinkBlink Thanks I will. Fortunately, my rims aren't on my car, they are in my garage. I'm in MI and my winter tires/rims are still on. So I'm gonna get my folding table out and put the rim/tire on the table and pull up a chair and take my time doing this. I really liked your tip about the hot water for the spray. I watched other videos and no one recommended that. I'm excited to do this. I've only had the rims for a year and was really bummed about the scratching it on a curb. Thanks again.

very helpful. I just want to use the emery cloth. Its just a small 1 inch scratch when I hit the curb on my 2022 honda hrv alloy wheel. I will review this.

I had my insignia for almost six years and never ever damaged my rims , bought new Audi a4 and month after new rims , after I left garage I went to gym and boom ! Hit my brand new rim to the kerb ! Completely damaged ! I’ll follow your instructions and see how it goes

Lacquer is always applied after the paint to protect the finish

That would be very delicate to work around. It is doable BUT you must be very patient and remember to cover the parts you don't need to repair. Personally would I attempt to do this? Yes and no. Just started today went from p200 to p1500 wet dry but there’s differences because it’s smooth but the diamond cut as lines like a record so I can’t get it match up hopefully after laquer it looks better

It would look way better after lacquer. Wipe it down first with water and then spirit, then spray the lacquer in one motion (left to right) while making sure the lacquer does not drip. Wait 12hrs and then respray again (remember to keep about 1/4 arms length away when spraying). Good luck mate 😎👍🏾 DJ Blink-Blink

They are sold at different sizes. The one I got was 230 x 280mm. Remember, the size you get does not matter because you just need a little.

Hello Samuel. The spray is "Lacquer" and is used to seal the wheels to keep it protected. If you don't spray lacquer on the wheels, the bare metal is exposed to the elements (wind, rain, dirt, sunlight) and you would just need to clean it regularly. @@DjBlinkBlink oh ok thank you !! my mom just bought a Mercedes GLE43 AMGcoupe and I took it for a drive and I wasn’t use to the size of the car and is also very hard to see the outside, It has good looking AMG wheels and I did a curb rash on 1 rim 😭thank god it was only one, I was freaking out in my inside, but she didn’t notice yet so I have to repair it as soon as possible 🚶🏻‍♂️💨, again thanks !!

@@samuelwh4775 you are welcome mate. If the damage on your mum's wheel is small, then you "may" skip the lacquer step. However if the damage is not small, I would advise you buy the lacquer spray and use it as required. This would ensure you have a complete finish on the wheels. Cheers, DJ Blink-Blink

From the video at 3.00 it appears as though these wheels are diamond cut finished on the silver surface. What you've basically done is sanded off the curb rash, smoothed it out, along with the diamond cut finish and lacquered it. From a distance it might look ok but close up you'll see part of the wheel is still diamond cut and where it's been repaired just faded off to a smooth finish. Really not the way to repair a diamond cut finished wheel unless you want it to look like a £14 repair.

Paul, we are not complaining. We are happy with our £14 repair and no one would be looking at our diamond cut alloy wheels closely unless they are planning to STEAL or INSPECT the wheels for damages. Again, thank you for your observations but we are happy with the cheap repair 😂😂

Hello mate, Since you went all the way to bare metal, you would have to put more than just a few coats on your wheel when spraying it (make sure there are no dry or thin spots during this process). Using a high-end clear coat metal product like "Everbrite clear coating" will do the trick. Follow this process below: 1. Apply the first coat lightly. 2. After this, you can go heavy when applying the succeeding clear coats. Remember, wait for the first layer to dry completely before you apply the second coat. If you adhere to the spraying motion (left to right or vise versa) and most importantly if you apply the lacquer from a distance as described in the video, you should not have negative effect on your brake disc or the caliper. Remember the elements (rain, salt, mud etc) land on the brake discs throughout the year and this does not have any effect on the braking system or performance as a whole. All in all, you should be fine
