I thought being a DJ champion would turn my career around. It didn’t.
What did though were 3 qualities I found in myself that you too can find in you.

►SCRIPT
People usually say that “those who can’t do, teach”. And as hurtful as that sounds. It was kinda true for me. But not in the way you think.
You see when I started this KZfaq channel, my DJ career was kinda dead. I didn’t have any gigs, nor any club residencies.
And you may think that being a DJ champion would’ve gotten me somewhere. Surely winning 3rd place in the World DJ championships, would’ve at least landed me something. But nothing really came out of it. Only thing I got from winning was a title.
But something in me.. didn’t wanna go for the latter option. I still believed that following your dreams will get you somewhere. And so far believing got me skills and a title, And I wanted to know what would happen down the road if kept believing and if I kept working.
But my friends and family didn’t want me to go thru that path. They were fed up and concerned with my lack of progress as a DJ at the time. And they always asked me “what about the money, what about the future. You’re a DJ champion and it’s gotten you no where. Are you sure this DJing is going to work”? And to be honest with you, those questions were the same questions I asked myself everyday.
And the best answer I could give them and myself was “I don’t know. I don’t care. But I’m going to make this work”
So long story long.
I started making KZfaq live remixes, and that kinda got the ball rolling. Then I started making vlogs, and that slowed the ball down. And then I started to make KZfaq tutorials, and everything and I mean everything changed.
Because of those videos, I actually started getting gigs, and making money and making ends meet, and things were looking good. But also because of those videos, I started spending less time with my family, friends and loved ones. I was always editing, writing and shooting. And if I wasn’t doing that, I was djing. And eventually I got burnt out DJing and making videos.
I wanted to stop! I disliked it! What’s the point of doing something you love, if you don’t love it anymore.
But I still kept going and going and going. For you guys.
And 5 years later after making my youtube channel, and 2 years later after taking youtube seriously in 2017, we’re finally here at 100k. And so the one thing I learned from being a DJ for 10 years, was that patience, persistence and consistency are the keys to success.
Patience in yourself, and in your progress as a creator, & as a DJ.
Persistence in pushing thru with all the work, suffering and disappointments.
And consistency in putting out the best content you can put out every single time.
So if there’s anything I want to impart to you as a young DJ starting out.
If you really really wanna make it out as a DJ and as a creative. You have to ask yourself. How long can you keep working without a prize, without recognition, without success, and without an end goal insight.
And if your answer to that is “I don’t know. I don’t care. But I’m going to make it work”, then you my friend, are on the right path.

Carlo I'm a DJ from Iran.. I'm 36.. I started learning music by keyboards when I was 6 and after I bring my keyboard to many family and friends parties and doing something like DJ also with cassette decks at that time then after start DJing when I was 18 with simple softwares from that time.. because there was no any real DJ equipment in my Islamic regime country and these things are forbidden.. there is no club and such a these things.. and even if they find a party they will arrest every one and put in jail.. so it was so hard for me to follow my dreams with that condition.. I never could find someone to guid me.. now I'm in turkey and also here is not good place to be successful for DJing .. and many times I feel its late and feel disappointed and hopeless to my self.. but still going.. because I really love music since that age even I couldn't know how to talk completely.. I watched some of your videos... you are a hard worker and good heart and really honest person.. I rarely write comment for anyone because of my depress mood.. but your videos effected on me so much.. after many years of being many years confusing paying and learn notting at last I learned from someone! you are so clearly teaching... and you teaches me a lots of things many years wanted to learn.. you gave me hope.. and it means a lot for me.. you have some ones heart now.. thank you from bottom of my heart .. for your good heart and honest behavior... I will following you.. and hope maybe one day we can talk or see each other.. your student and big fan Raham

Very impactful video. Love it. I've mixed on and off for over 10 years, nothing ever big. But I did some gigs and raves. Getting older, I had to put much into my regular job to pay for bills and support my family. For over a year, I didn't mix at all. But my wife pushed me to get back, and I started watching mixing videos (including yours) and bought some new gear. It's now more for my creative expression, and it's in my bedroom, but mixing brings me joy, and the fans I do have following me (Mixcloud) were happy I came back. Sometimes you get away from stuff, but when you love something, you keep coming back to it. Thank you for this video.

Unfortunately, life got the best of me and I stopped around my mid 20's.. and up and until a few months ago, I had forgotten what my passions were, until I saw a few of your videos, and remembered.. I'm now 39 years old and just bought myself a DDJ-1000 and started spinning again and wow.. what a feeling... a little bit of a learning curve but its as if I never left DJing.. I dont know if I'll ever be a famous DJ like I wanted to be when I was 18.. but I'm giving it a shot.. thanks for the motivation.. and I wish you even more success. You deserve it

My decks have been sitting in their case since I graduated college 3 years ago and stopped DJing house parties. Everytime I considered picking them back up, I'd talk myself out of it ("do you even know what music is good nowadays; why bother?) But a month ago I discovered your videos and it not only gave me inspiration to pick them up again it (and quarantine) reignited my passion for music period. I enjoy going through DJ record pools to find new tracks and practicing my skills again. I will probably never perform again live but that's OK. I LOVE to DJ and thanks to your videos I rediscovered my passion for putting my own "spin" on my favorite songs. So, thank you! - DJ-W

I am a robotics and mechanical engineer for a major company. I created this channel to become a DJ in my off time. Because I'm depressed and selfish. And giving a crowd of people immediate joy and excitement is the only thing that would give ME joy and excitement. In a time of constant sellouts and corporate hypocrisy, I'd say its time to bring some light back into the world. Your videos...specifically THIS video, have made me understand how hard it is going to be, but also why I want to do it more. Thank you. Subscribed.

Even though I'm not a DJ, this video is really motivational. I'm a music producer and oftentimes it clashes with a lot of things. I don't know how it's gonna work out, but I don't care :) Life's boring if it were to be planned out step by step. Thanks for the video. Liked and subscribed!

DJ Carlo you’re awesome. That was so very inspiring. My story is much different but your message really struck a chord with me. It takes so much time and effort to be “successful.” And its very hard to stay on track. But if you really believe in yourself it will happen. You can’t let anyone deter you from your passion. Money will come later.

I used to be a full time DJ back in my late teens and early 20's. I sort of gave up because of the lack of money and I also got interested in pro audio. But I could never give up my Technics 1200s nor my vinyl. I know a lot of my peers at the time sold everything off and regret it. Getting rid of my passion was not in question. Currently I'm a full time software engineer and recently I got back into DJing as a full time hobby. I've dropped all my other hobbies to get back into my passion. I recently bought a DDJ 1000 and I have become fairly proficient with it but I want to learn more. I'm so into this I'm going to buy a DDJ 400 to take on the road with me when I travel for business. Your channel and others keep me inspired. My dream is to start doing guest spots. I've listened to the current crop of new DJ's. They lack music depth. They don't know how to confidently transition between genres or between the decades of the plethora of great music. A lot of them are also scared to venture outside the charted music and into the underground music. That is what made DJ's great. Going from club to club and hearing completely differently sounds. Most seem to be playing off the charts. Thank you for what you do. Keep it up.

So far i had a few gigs on premiere parties in the theatre and the people liked it very much. That gave me courage and now i am going to learn in a DJ school. But most of all i enjoyed your videos and i have learned a lot from your tips and instructions. You explain all the DJ stuff very well and easy to understand. Thanks a lot for that. Just found your channel today & I needed to hear this. Been DJing since I was 17, House & DNB. Still no fame & fortune but my lady has been pushing me lately to go out & try to get gigs. It's so tough to make it into the club scene let alone festivals. I feel like it's super competitive & you gotta know someone to even get a chance. I know there's more I can do to utilize social media to promote myself. But in this world if you arent doing EVERYTHING the internet provides to put yourself out there then you are only cutting yourself short. Anyways, thanks for the video my man. Every struggling DJ feels what you discussed in this video down to their soul. God bless you & your DJ adventures Carlo.
