Dji still has to keep an eye on the business side of things. They can't take one of their aircraft and fill it with all the latest and coolest features. That will result in the end of others' aircraft market share.

@billykyle thank you for your help. We lived by a military base and couldn't fly them. Software quit and still can't fly it. I guess dji is the only software you can use. We haven't flown our new drones yet since we bought them. Trying to stay positive here. Thank you for your help.

DJI has really improved the tracking in their latest drones. I don't often use this feature, but when I do it's easy to quickly get a tracking shot without too much menu digging. Great video Billy, and thanks for sharing. BTW, that empty strip mall look familiar, was that in NJ?

My active tracked dodged trees noticeably better before the most recent update...now it aggressively goes into them and does exactly what your did. *Cough* DJI care refresh

They have car, person, and boat recognition, but here I am wishing that DJI would add a "motorcycle/bicycle" tracking ability. Instead, I now sit here wishing I had bought the Skydio 2 with a beacon and not sat around waiting for DJI to get 360 obstacle avoidance only to discover that it can't track me while I ride.

Wow what a perfect video Billy. I've been looking for something about Active track but you video was so accurate :) Just 1 quick question - If I was to use the AUTO mode - dies that switch off the obstacle sensors - if so - which mode should I use so that the obstacle sensors still work? Thanks so much

Cool new idea would be for Dji to come up with some sort of watch that you can control the drone on where you want it to be that way you don’t carry the controller on you … just a thought…. Which if I was an engineer I would come out with that

My son and I can't fly our dji droans. The software forbids us from even opening up to view it. We live near Aberdeen washington. Any ideas how we can get new software. Or where to look. It's been over a year now. Thank you again for a great website you have.

@driewiel we are in a no fly zone. But we have taken the copters to different areas no where near homes or anything and the app still won't open. I deleted it and downloaded it again and it won't open for either one of us.

I fully understand it from a buissness prospective but it really sucks how DJI releases new stuff/updates in a particular order to get people to buy more stuff. Theres no reason the mavic 3 pro doesn't have this yet. same with the Avata 2 and not using old controllers.

Automatic tracking is very important for me because the drone should be able to follow me perfectly while traveling on mountain roads with my vehicle.The trees can be dense and since I cannot use both the drone and the vehicle at the same time, the drone has to follow perfectly. However, DJI never improves its systems. Skydio flies better than this

People have no idea how powerful and important using active track is now that you can set the height at chest level. This means you now basically have a second camera man (your drone) without needing a second person. This is HUGE for documentary makers and content creators. The "drone POV/ angle" is so played out and old, and quite frankly, its ugly. Drones, especially DJI drones, have always only been allowed to fly about a minimum of 10 feet high when activating Active Track. Maybe it was for safety reasons, but even now, on my Mavic 3 Pro, the moment I activate Active Track to follow me from ANY angle, it automatically flies to a height of about 10 feet, while also flying away from me at a distance of about 10 or 15 feet. It's definitely a safety feature but once this update comes to the Mavic 3 Pro, its going to be awesome, and I'm going to use the hell out of it.

It also means stupid people fly it exactly where all the hazards are. I've seen them miss car windscreens and cyclists by millimeters or fractions of a second. Don't think the obstacle avoidance will prevent flying into a moving truck. The worst thing about auto 360 is you have no control whatsoever. Why DJI refuses to add the much safer follow-me while this active-track is unreliable as hell I have no idea.

Yeah I think it's cool, but it's just on the edge of gimmick. It works well, but still needs some tuning to be totally reliable.

@@billykyle GPS follow-me is much more user friendly in real life. Few are going to risk their $1000 drone on a long trip. So you fly it in the open space anyway. Follow-me may not have all the dynamic shots. But it is predictable and much smoother footage. When programmed correctly (compass type) you can fly it in view north south east west, and use the sticks for fly-by's etc. If I were to give you my funny $135 L109 Pro, you would be amazed by how easy and safe it is. I wish it had a better camera and gimbal. Blows any DJI active-track out of the sky. Super simple, super effective. Unfortunately very few drone do it right. So that gives people who are used to DJI the impression it's an inferior feature to active-track. It isn't. It's different, but all you have to do is push as button and use the sticks. Try operate a touchscreen for that inner outer circle thing while riding a bike. Impossible. you have to stop and stop and stop again. After 5 minutes you forget all about it and ride on. Takes too much time you don't have on a trip. Ask cyclists riding around the world. Nobody uses active-track.

Until DJI includes GPS tracking as an option, they are still miles away from Skydio's ability.

It's called follow-me. Skydio just like DJI tracks you optically. But when it loses you the GPS kicks in. At least that is how I think it works. Or maybe it uses both simultaneously? Anyhow, it's not pure follow-me.

@@billykyle I've seen so many active-crash videos. They buy a Mini 4 pro as their first drone. Then immediately step in a car thinking active-track is 100% flawless.
