You’re entering the argument from the perspective of an existing Mavic 3/Mini 3 Pro owner who doesn’t see a need for the Air 3, which you’re right about based on what you already have. But for someone who owns neither, the Air 3 seems like the sweet spot between the two if considering both performance and price.

It genuinely Infuriates me that people say it “ has the same sensor “ Yes… the size is the same but the sensor is completely different. It has a stacked CMOS vs a Backside Illuminated meaning it is much better then a Mini 3

You need to do some A/B testing between those two sensors man… Despite the same sensor size the image quality is better on the Air 3 , and at night the difference is huge.

Just picked up the Mini 3 Pro a few weeks ago. Couldn’t be more happy. Already getting great footage just around the area I live, and I can’t wait to take it to some cool locations. Glad to hear I don’t have to regret my purchase.

Same got mine last monday. Only problem if you use the plus battery your drone is more than 250gr and going in A3 category next year. For me the normal battery with fly more kit is fine.

Smart. If you have a Mavic 2s, Mavic Pro mini, Mavic Pro Classic or Mavic Pro 3 camera, don't waste you money. I have a Mavic Pro2, and boy is this an easy decision ... its Air 3 for me.

I love the mini 3 pro. My only complaint is it doesn’t handle well in windy environments. I just got back from a trip to Patagonia and there were more than a few times I thought the wind would take the drone away or I wouldn’t have enough power to return to home. Other than that, the mini 3 pro is the perfect drone.

Love the vid! What would you recommend buying as my first drone? Cause 1st I was so sure about the mini3 pro, but the windy conditions we have in denmark took me a bit over to the air2s or air 3 side. What can you recommend???

The classic is $500 more than the air 3. That's a pretty big jump in cost. I upgraded to air 3 from the air 1 and mini 2 and i love it! The vertical take off speed is insane! Very much enjoying the tele lens as well. Just opens a lot of new capabilities. I dont think there is any reason to hate on it like this because its at the right price point. The waypoints are great for me as well. I can set 2 or 3 way points and get a killer shot of the deck/roof i just built to put on my website. Its the perfect drone for me at the perfect price point

@BlairAir exactly. Obviously you're getting a better drone with the mavic 3, but it's at a whole different price point. Now that the air 3 is out, it's the obvious choice for someone like me who doesn't want to make a career with it, I just want to make sick videos of me riding my electric skateboard or my kids on dirt bikes. Also for my business, the waypoints have been awesome for getting great shots of decks and additions that I built

I agree with everything you said... I was debating between the two and went with the mini 3 Pro because of where I'll be using it for about 90% of the time. And then I found out that the air 3 uses omnivision ov48c sensors and the deal was done. Now after more information, I'm 100% certain that the mini 3 Pro is hands down the better drone. By the way... How do you convert passive HDR to HDR in post?

The air 3 seems to have a bit better algorithm than the mini 3 pro. Comparisons seem to prove this. You get omnidirectional sensor , 3x lens , waypoints , cruise control , better signal , better tracking , dlog m, the drone is better. Don’t kid your self. It def doesn’t look exactly the same but the mini 3 pro is still very good and of course under 250g

Nailed it. Different user group. No need to upgrade if you have a Mavic min 3 pro. This is pointed at folks who have a Mavic 2 Pro or less. Anything better I would wait 6 months.

Actually, I'm seriously considering the Air 3, even though the cameras are the same and I likely wont really use the zoom lens because I've been spoiled by the Mavic 3 Pro and this will look nowhere near as sharp and good... But the whole reason I'm actually looking at the Air 3 over the Mini 3 pro is the omni-directional obstacle avoidance.... I really like getting into some funky areas, and this will be really useful to me in those cases where I want some footage in confined areas or if I want to have it follow someone and not have to constantly baby sit it as much.

As a new professional this is a perfect first drone for me. Nearly as good as the M3P, flies even faster, and with the full kit is half the price ($1500 vs $3000). Thought about getting the Mini 3 Pro for $950 w/ kit, but as it's a year old, slower and less stable, I think this is the best value. Classic is also $2000. The zoom lens is a huge perk for me shooting mostly cars. There was a sale on the Mini 3 Pro kit for like $650 I missed, I would've done that if I saw it

Me too. I decided that can't show up to a paid video or photo shooting and get punked flying my Mini 2 (although I love the Mini 2 to death) with a transponder, and I believe in buying the best to avoid regret (as opposed to buying a used Air 2S, M2 Pro Zoom, etc). The Air 3 is an absolute hotrod of a UAS and if you don't get the Mavic 3 Pro (considering it's almost twice my mortgage), the Air 3 will give you the most performance. Hell, I was able to squeeze out a lot of my Mini 2 (I posted a video), and I can only imagine what the twin cameras will allow me to shoot with my Air 3.

I just purchased the mini 3 pro a couple days ago and am waiting for it to arrive. I just heard about the Air 3 this morning and was thinking maybe I should return the mini 3 pro and get it instead. After watching your video I am thinking maybe it is better to just stick with the mini 3 pro. Thanks for detailing all of the feautures of both drones and giving your opinion!

We know the sensor size on the wide angle camera is the same beteween the AIr 3 and M3P, but do we know the sensor tech is the same? I have to wonder if the new Air 3 has more dynamic range, etc. It has 10bit color so perhaps it is significantly improved over the already excellent Mini 3 Pro. Also, I've been told the lenses on the Mini 3 Pro are plastic to keep weight down, I wonder if the Air 3 has glass lenses to improve optical quality. Lastly, the 70mm camera is something that I REALLY wanted. The longer lens will compress the background against the foreground more and give more of a sense of movement when panning or sliding the drone sideways, that isn't a small thing for some of us.

Yeah, it will not be the same, often camera makers use a same sensor but there are other differences. So far it is just same spec size wise that I have seen. If you have a mini pro 3 or 4, it can however do 4k portrait mode, that is a reason to keep or have the small drone :)

This is the comparison I've been looking for. I do like the new features on the new drone especially the obstacle avoidance but it seems a lot of people are now pointing out all kinds of faults with the same mini 3 pro they were just praising before the new drone.

Tbh, I saw all the praise of the Mini 3 Pro, purchased it for a test shoot and returned it immediately after. Was very disappointed with that drone. Of course it was better than my Mini 2, but wasn't worth purchasing a new drone for 1200 euro (with fly more, rc and nd filters). The jump from Mini 2 to Air 3 for just a little more seems better for me. I could even sell my Mini2 and basically have the Air 3 for the same price I would've had the Mini 3 Pro for and objectively have a better drone. I'm trying to wait to see what they release the Mini 4 with, not necessarily to purchase it, but to compare that to the Air 3 for a better decision. Not a fan of the sub 250g stuff anymore.

I own the mini 3 pro and love it, but i also own the original mavic 3. I got the air 3 thinking i would sell the mavic 3. Air 3 flies same as the mavic 3, but is a bit quieter and easier to travel with. Question is the mavic 3 main camera will i miss it? Also the Air 3 main camera has a stacked sensor unlike the mini 3 pro. I hear this will improve low light perfornace.

My mini 3 pro ended up on a roof during wind. I bought the air 2 s and fished it off the roof. If you don’t have extreme wind the mini 3 pro is the best drone in my opinion. But in Minnesota, your best getting a stronger, heavier drone

Agreed. In north TX we get pretty strong wind some days. I ended up having to return my Mini 3 Pro because of this. I’m hoping the Air 3 performs better under our common wind conditions.

I don't have any drones and close to settled on getting DJI Mini 3 PRO. So I am looking at these types of reviews like yours. I am taking away that IF you already have a DJI Mini 3 PRO or other similar that the Air 3 is not as much a incentive for those already with drones. For me I'm really considering the Air 3 now vs Mini 3 Pro with the bumps in tech improvements in the sensor, RC2, waypoints, obstacle avoidance. Once I'm in the club of existing owners then I can be part of the "is it worth it to get" club. Just my thoughts.

it is the middle ground between mini and mavic, I guess someone that have the budget to get the mavic3 classic will have hard time to justify the value of x3 tele lens over everything else. O4 transmission is nice, it means more stable connection at same distance, but for most user, I really wonder does it make a big difference when the maximum video live transmission is still 1080p/60fps.

You are mistaken, the sensor in the Air 3 is the same size but it is an upgrade, so not the same sensor as in the Mini 3 Pro. Comparisons have already proven this well. I myself have the Dji Mini 3 Pro and I also have the Air 3, there is indeed a difference.

The variety of drones offered by DJI offers a choice for all users according to preferences and financial possibilities, of course. But as much as there is a lot of truth in the review, I bought it (as an M3 and mini 3 pro owner) because I like the combination of omnidirectional sensors and 2 cameras with the same chip. It's actually very similar in definition to the M3 pro, but for unprecedentedly better money. I shoot a lot in active track mode while cycling through the forest. With both my A2S and Mini 3 Pro, I was always worried about obstacles on the sides when changing direction. The M3, which I have mainly for photography (the aperture options are perfect for creating different effects), I really didn't want to let it go for a bike ride in the forest... So yes, for many the Mini3 Pro is sufficient, sure, but from the first time I bought an A3, I don't regret it :-) P.S. And greetings to Norway - Your country is one of the most beautiful in Europe...

Are you really saying that the main camera of the Air3 is similar to the m43 main camera of the Mavic 3. Because coming from the Mavic 2 Pro, I cant tell the difference. I'm very disappointed by the main camera on the Air3

@@laurenthenry In all tests and from my experience with both the M3 and the Air3, the Air 3's camera delivers better results despite being the same size as the Mini 3 Pro. The reason will also be the layered CMOS chip. But the M3 has a Haseblad main camera and a significantly larger chip. On closer inspection, the M3 has better output, better shadow art, detail. But who will dissect it like this? The first impression is important, and it's a great one with the Air 3 imho. Why are you disappointed with the camera on the Air 3? Overall, I'm very happy with the Air 3 so far.

So I have the Mini 3 Pro and I am already looking at upgrading. I am considering the Mavic 3 Pro, is that a better upgrade than this? I liked the idea of full obstacle avoidance as I always worry about the fact the mini 3 pro does not have side sensors. For me, it would be lens quality and obstacle avoidance which would persuade me to buy something. I would let my husband and son use my mini 3 pro and use the Mavic myself. I really want a drone for photography first, video second. My son uses the mini 3 pro for YT drone videos and is happy with it. My husband likes to just fly about for fun.

one upside is the Air 3 has night shooting but so does the Mavic. I Wish they would have kept the 1 inch sensor because I don't think the air 3 has a better field of view. Plus they got rid of 5.4k for some reason on the Air 3.

So the mini 3 pro can do, say, 4km range off the coast in the EU? I sold my original Mini a little while ago. It told me the wind was too high most times I flew it. Loved the size and sound level though.

the zoom camera is, why i ordered the Air 3 ... and i'm VERY happy, it comes with the same sensor as the main cam and the M3P 😅 i hope it will allow closer footage of the things i need to fly for inspectation, not forcing me to fly too close above trees as my M3P or Air2S do ... but as my bank account would have agreed, i'd have prefered to go for the Mavic 3 Pro ... now it is as it is, and i love to fly my M3P where i need it silent or super easy to take with me, the Air2S for GREAT quality of the footage, and hope to love the Air 3 zoom and waypoints 🤞🏼😅🤞🏼

Yeah bro the 3x optical zoom of the tele lens is great for inspections. Then up to 9x digital zoom to get even closer. The air 3 is bad ass and really it's just the mini 3 pro owners that are going to hate on it. I love it!

I sold my mavic air a year ago and have no drone right now... Mini3 will not work for me because i want to film some sailing and kitesurfing trips and wind resistance is not good on it. You would reccomend classic instead or air3 ay?

I am not sure. I think he 70mm lens on the AIr3 will give you much more diversity in shots than the Magic Classic.

I went from the 1st Mavic Mini to the Air 2. My biggest issue with 249gm drones is flight stability in the wind, hence the Air 2. I almost considered the Mini 4 Pro but decided on the Air 3. Quick-release props, 360 obstacle avoidance, cruise control, 70mm lens enhancing background compression, flight time, wind stability, and the list goes on. I do not fly professionally so the Mavic 3 is overkill for me. I think it comes down to preferences, flying requirements, etc. when deciding on the drone. I know there are happy pilots with whatever drone they choose that is right for them.

I have the Mini 3 Pro and the Air 2s so I'm going to buy the RC 2 if they make it compatible with either or both because I need the fan to keep it cool here in Arizona where right now it's 115° F. (46.11 C) I really appreciate your video pointing out why my Mini 3 Pro is still a good drone to have.

Not advocating for the Air 3 but the new CMOS sensor is a stacked sensor, so while it is technically the same sensor, it delivers higher image quality overall, capturing a higher range in the image.

A Mavic 2 Pro does not have a one inch sensor buddy. Check your eyes. I just got rid of my Mavic 2 Pro to buy an Air 3.

Its the perfect drone imo. I bought the mini 4 pro and returned it. Its super quiet, looks so flimsy almost like a toy. The 70mm camera on Air 3 is gold if you like capturing pictures or videos of yourself in cool places.

Yes it does, personally i am very very careful when using active track and i usually try to plan as good as possible. Even tho it has sensors, tech is never 100% reliable, so i think its always better to pre-plan then relying on sensors.

I have a Mini 3 Pro and absolutely *love* it but I've always wished for a zoom lens and from what I've seen, the 70mm is incredibly versatile. The background compression is a huge bonus too. I'm looking into getting an Air 3 and features like better obstacle avoidance, more speed, better wind resistance, and waypoints, the latter seems like a really useful feature. From the research I've done so far, the image quality from the new backlit sensor in the Air 3 does seem better than the Mini 3 Pro. I completely agree with you that the Mini 3 Pro is still killer for almost all tasks. The Mini 3 Pro is ridiculously silent though and most of the time you can barely hear it once it's up in the air - so it's a great drone for travelling.

Great video! I agree on your thoughts, I too have a M3 and M3P. All your points are spot on for what I own. Nobody...including you, has posted what the maximum ceiling of the A3, is it 1000M? My only "wish" would be the M3P also had a 1000M like the M3 ceiling (or higher). I live in the mountains of Montana and would love have a higher ceiling for both to shoot snow caped peaks from eye level.

I have the mavic 3 Pro/RC Pro, i travel a lot,i have the best heavy weight class consumer drone and decided to get the best sub 250 gram (drone only) to avoid regulations when i travel to canada..and the noise level is the feature that sold me to the mini 3 Pro, mavic 3 Pro/mini 3 Pro and the Rc Pro for me is the killer combo for traveling creators or vloggers alike.. the Air3 sits in the middle which is also good for people upgrading to an older drone, but for a first drone, ill recommend the mini 3 Pro that users can grow their skills on.

Getting to close may push it up if theres a lot of waves, also water is unpredictable which could potentially mess with the sensors, so i prefer to have full control

Rob, i have both a mini 3 pro and Air 2 S. Both are perfect for how I fly. Mini 3 Pro is great for not so windy days and having the built in screen. Bigger flights such as off cliffs and high altitude, the Air 2 S is more than capable. I like you have never needed the avoidance as I’m never that low. Beaut video mate, thank you. Just got my air 3 yesterday. I probably wouldn't upgrade from an air 2s but I have the air 1 and mini 2. The air 3 was a no brainer. This thing has some insane power and flight time. It was pretty windy today and it handled it like it was nothing. Plus the vertical take off speed is better than any dji drone so far. It's incredibly fun to fly!

I have an air 2s and a mini3 pro. I use the m3p in areas where it is illegal to fly a larger drone; it's great and if you have dji care you don't need omnidirectional avoidance because the $104 care coverage fee is far less than the cost of omnidirectional sensors. I know because I am on my 6th mini 3 pro now- I only paid for the first one and the other 5 are all replacements from dji with no questions asked and a mere 4 day turn around. I am working my way towards the M3 classic for my main camera, I want the Hass with aperture control. Oh, and no, I haven't crashed my air 2s...yet.

This drone is perfectly targeted for me. I currently have a Mavic Pro that I bought back in 2018. I was seriously considering the Mavic 3 Classic, but by the time I add in the Fly More Bundle, I'm now at $2,400 plus tax. That's more than I would want to spend on a hobby. The Air 3 checks off nearly all of the same boxes with the exception of the camera. But judging by the videos I've seen from reviewers who ACTUALLY have tested it and used it; the camera is better than the Mini 3 Pro even though the specs would say it's virtually the same camera. I want to capture my rides on my motorcycle, so the 360 degree obstacle avoidance is what put me back in the market for a drone and this should do it for me with a significant savings. I'd be interested to know your thoughts now that the drone has been out for about a month since your posting. Would you consider it now?

I own Air2S! Great drone! Handles wind like a boss. Awesome 1 inch sensor is the biggest pro on this. Air3 downgraded the sensor to 1 1/3 inch that the Mini 3 Pro has the same one. That is the biggest downgrade and not an upgrade. Features like the Omnidirectional obsticle avoidance and way point navigation is good, but not something that you will want to spend so much on. My Air2S is going solid and I will keep it for now. Maybe Air3S or will go for Mavic 3 Pro in the future. Mini3 Pro and Air2S are not comparable. Air2S is robust, stable and can fly in strong winds and has great camera. Mini3 Pro can only be a benefit when weight regulations are an issue. The connection on Mini3 Pro is not as robust that I am accustomed to with Air 2S. Not a single time I lost connection to my drone or have any issues with real time video transmission. Air2S is built like a tank.

You wrong about the sensor. Even though they are the same size the Air 3 has sports new technology with a "stacked sensor". According to the first reviews, Images are far superior to the Mini 3 Pro. (which I own). Might be wise to do some research first.

I love my air 2s its brilliant not to big and not too small just perfect plus the one inch 5.4 k resolution is perfectly good enough ,only one thing that kills me when flying return to home warning gets activated because flight time is so low even though i have 3 batteries it drives me mad to stop flying . I wish DJI made bigger batteries for this drone as i don't want to sell it for this reason because apart from that the footage is magnificent what else do you want pleeeeeeese!

It's been few weeks since I started to consider to get a second drone (my main is P4 RTK for work) which should offer simplicity and portability but good enough for personal everyday documentation. Air3 just came out recently (in my country at least) and yes it is quite a temptation but the more I think about it the more I consider that instead of Air3 (should I really want one) maybe I'd rather save more for Mavic 3 Pro. ...and yes my budget is currently limited as well.

@LittleRedRidingHoo base price for the air 3 is $1099. Base price for the mavic pro is $2199. A 100% increase. The batteries also cost way more. I really can't believe the air 3 is being hated on so much. Just got mine yesterday and it's incredible for the price. Has all the features and specs of the mavic line minus the big sensor and adjustable aperture. Unless you're someone who uses his drone exclusively as a career, why spend so much on it? There will just be a newer and better one next year

Seems like people are not getting the memo. The 1/3 inch is in fact NOT the same sensor found on the mini 3 pro. Its a 1/3 inch STACKED sensor. Its actually rather new technology and gives much better performance in low light conditions. This wouod be one of the bigger selling points of this drone. Seems like alot of people are missing the mark, maybe because dji isnt doong the advertisement right

I don’t agree with many points. It’s a new backside illuminated sensor. Not the same. The Mini 3 Pro which I have is plasticky and poorly made. Due to weight constraints of course. The mavic 3 classic and pro have a shoddy lens that’s soft. Air 3 seems the best compromise.

You call the lens on the Magic 3 and 3 Pro soft. I would rather call it more professional. There is a difference between sharp and contrasty. More professional lenses and sensors have a smooth transition and richness in the mid-tones where smaller sensors (and the lenses that go with them) give more contrast on first sight but are poor in postproduction. It is the subtleness of the mid-tones that give the impression that more professional lenses are softer but after all, they aren't. And the so called sharpness of cheap lenses and small sensors is ugly and is based on too much contrast.

i have mini 3 pro and the transmission is pretty bad and if i go to a location and its windy forget about it. so air 3 in a perfect drone for different weather conditions and transmission is a lot better and i just sold my air2 which was a fantastic drone to. so if you already have a mavic 3 yes i wouldn't buy a air 3 totally agree 👍

I'm with you. The AIR 3 is an Mavic lite with an Mini 3 Pro Image Sensor. I don't geht it! DJI should go back to the original AIR concept! An agile, intelligent (AI-Tracking, Follow), >500g adventure/action drone (for climbing, MTB, Freeskiing ect.). DJI has nothing like that in there portfolio and there is a big gap between the 249g Mini 3 Pro and the 720g of the AIR 3 :-/
