I don't own the Mavic or Spark...But have observed a lot of people seemingly feel the need to defend their current investment by negatively rating or commenting. To me, it's just another tool. YMMV . I enjoy these reviews.

Quick question, how stable is the mavic air compared to the mavic pro when sitting still in the air during windy conditions? Is there noticeable sway or shifting in the footage from movement?

Mister this is an AWESOME Video. I just recently bought spark and got plenty of questions but you answer majority of them. The only thing I wanted to ask you is, it’s kinda confusing to me when trying to determine if the aircraft is facing you or facing forward when it’s already far away from your home point. You know that it kinda goes in reverse depending on where the gimble is facing. So, that scares the heck out of me. Any advice please? Thank you again for taking the time sharing your video.

why do reviewers keep doing comparisons between the mavic air, mavic pro, and the spark? its like comparing a Formula one Ferrari, a Formula one McClaren, and a Toyota corolla and saying the corola sucks in comparison. Most people only need a Corola and are quite happy with it.

I am using MAVIC PRO and pretty happy with its capabilities and performance. I think AIR is comparable with SPARK, rather with MAVIC PRO.. However, it is a bit strange to see no screen on remote, just in case when mobile battery is drained screen helps a lot. Ofcourse its my personal liking.

Great Review! I'd still prefer my Mavic Pro over the Mavic Air. Something not mentioned in the video is the remote. It doesn't have an on board screen like the DJI Mavic which I find pretty useful. Especially when the DJI Go 4 App crashes, which we all know happens from time to time.

The phantom 4 pro doesn’t have a screen on the remote. This has never been an issue to phantom fliers. I’m most interested interested in the Mavic Air for the camera upgrade compared to the Mavic Pro

I'm actually doing a lot of thinking about this. The only aspect where I would really say the Air is better is the camera (but it is so much better there, 100Mbps makes a huge difference!). And OcuSync makes a huge difference. Less interference, better quality overall, and not the slightest signal dropout or even jittering or lag or anything even at 1-2 kilometers distance (didn't go further so far). Also less lag. This, to me, looks like a very clear way for DJI to make sure the Mavic holds enough over the Air to keep it on the market. What they should release is a camera/gimbal unit that can replace the one on the Mavic Pro and that essentially has the Air's camera.

Another well done program. I thoroughly enjoy your programs, Tom, and this is a good one for me, because I've narrowed down my dream drones to these three. Partly, it's the money involved, but I'm pretty serious about video and reliability, so I'm leaning on the Air or the Pro, because of the better gimbals more sensors, and other goodies, but some of the video I've seen on the spark, looks pretty darn good to me to. Great review. One more thing I would have liked to see is the side by side size comparison of the pro and air with them folded...You showed the boxes of the spark and air and I get an idea. But would be good to see it next to the pro, like a top view.

Great comparison! 2 questions : what flight modes does the Mavic Air have (especially cinematic, home lock etc.) AND can you change the control settings like on the Mavic Pro where you can specify the curves how the controls react? Or is it more like Spark with 1 setting only?

The timelapse on the Mavic Pro cant use RAW for anything under 10seconds, having to go to JPEG for 2s which is generally the most useful. Has this changed for the Mavic Air?

All of the features that it has are Mavic features: Foldable, 4k video, Raw 12 MP Photos, Stabilized, Faster, sensors that detect objects. The only thing it shares with the spark is the way it is small and a similar look.

Tom , great stuff. One small thing that has started to bug me over time with your videos; you need to work on your eye contact if you plan on using off axis footage. You lose viewer engagement when you show footage with you "talking to someone else" because you are looking straight ahead. Most studios use a light to cue off axis camera.

Great comparison Tom! Quick question. I do a lot of motorcycle touring, adventure riding and dirt bike riding. I like the new Mavic Air and I have a question on the follow me mode. I see it can follow you from the back but can you set it up to follow you from the front, so it is going backwards and taking video of you riding, capturing the front of you? Since the new Air has the obstacle avoidance feature in the rear that should help it to this.

Hey Tom, I hope you can clarify something for me. A few points I´d love to know in order for me to make a decision between Mavic Air and Mavic Pro. 1.- How´s the Mavic Air in a bit stronger winds, would you say is kind of the same as the Pro or the pro is better? 2.- The camera on the Mavic Air it´s a bit smaller than the pro, even though the sensor it´s the same. How oudl really compar to the Mavic, wouldn´t affect it a bit? And finally, being wifi signal on the Mavic Air would be worst than the OcuSync? Or doesn´t even matter? I do not fly long range, maybe 1KM a the very longest. Any thoughts? :)

Do you have a guess on when mavic pro 2 will release? And I plan on using my future drone mostly the mountains, afraid high winds that frequent the mountains would limit when i could use a drone the size of the air, what are your thoughts there, would the mavic pro 2 be a better choice with that in mind?

I'm still really happy with my Mavic pro. However, I do only shoot in 2k on it because I can see the compression at 4k particularly in trees. I think the 2k video just looks better due to it needing to be compressed less. That is really the only thing that I'm jealous about the Air shooting at 100mbs. Thanks for bringing that up, none of the other reviewers did and when I read it I thought that it was pretty killer.

Amazing Comparison, I'm thinking about to buy my first drone ... but I miss one of the most important points ... the flight time is too short, then I think is important the time to recharge the battery and if you can recharge with an external battery (like powerbank)... because when you are travelling, you can't go back to the hotel each 16 min to charge 1... 2 ... or 3 hours to full charge the battery. Wich is the best drone in this cattegory??? Thanks from Spain!!!

My experience with Spark was I lost control and couldn't cancel return to home flight when it reached low battery level. Spark ended up hitting a tree branch above it and crashed. The Mavic Air does check a lot of the features I wanted over the Spark (3 axis gimbal, 4K, folding arms, longer flight time), I just hoped a top sensor would have been a lot more safer to fly just incase the drone flies under obstacles. Spark in real life only has 10 mins flight time as you have to account for the flight back and found it very limiting. The Mavic Air 21 min flight time should be plenty enough for me.

Ive noticed very bad "stuttering" in the footage from most reviews of the mavic air (in your footage as well, but not the worst Ive seen as its especially noticeable when filming flowing water or waves). Any thoughts on this? can this be fixed with a software update?

Hello sir I'm having a problem in my mavic air the asteroid and the boomerang mode is not showing on my quick shot mode only the 4 features are showing ( dronie, rocket, helix and circles) I already used android phone and the iPhone X but still not showing I already updated all the the latetes firm ware...hope I can resolve this issue of my mavic air.

ElDoItAll Vlogs yep, the same happend to me.. I have the spark since two weeks and now comes this.. but as mentioned, it's still almost double price for the mavic air.. not sure if it's worth it.. I'm not a pro photographer or something like that.. just want to take some cool pictures, videos and have a fun.. for 600$ in fly more combo is it absolutely ok.. :)

GameParkNoob yea I agree. I think the little specs are noticeable on the mavic air to people who care about those small details. In reality when you are shooting with any dji drones whether spark or the mavic they are the best on the market still impressive to the average joe. As for 4K video let's be honest 1080HD is still good. Unless u are shooting a movie then I would understand 4K would be needed. All in all dji master their drones.

hello. thank you for video. for the mavic air, i'm happy and sad on same time , happy because of the option jump up like for example 100mbps video .BUTin same time dji abandoned very USEFULL option like tracking WITH altitude changing... or the little "security" screen TX if smartphone goes "out".....

One small problem with the Distance, In the USA the Drone has 4km range on the Air but here in the UK it's 2km and people are loosing connection at 400 meters in built up areas, I personally went with the Mavic Pro I'm not super happy with the image but at the same time It's better than loosing the drone due to connection.
