Let's take an in-depth look at the DJI Mavic Pro (goo.gl/AUxgpy), DJIs most compact drone and maybe even new flagship. I have been taking it to the test for more than two weeks and can show you all it's pros and cons. I tested the flight modes, the batteries, the durability and overall safety, I checked whether it's a good investment or not. All links can be found below.

From what I've seen in other Mavic Pro videos, the plastic piece covering the lens isn't supposed to stay on during flight. It's meant as a protective cover while you transport the drone.

Tom's Tech Time Oh yea. When I saw the plastic cover, I thought the same as you. But, I also realized, as you did, that it would create problems in certain situations. So, hopefully, they will incorporate a piece that doubles as protection and an in-flight cover without issues. Great video, by the way.

Yes, it's not supposed to be used during filming. But that's not the point. The Karmas camera (the GoPro) is safe when it bumps into something, while the DJI would probably brake. The bubble would have been a really nice bit of extra protection. Stay tuned and fly safe!

isn't the plastic bubble only for lens protection in transit - you don't need to fly with it.
@Devonvp
@Devonvp 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is it's primary purpose, but when asked about how to protect the gimbal during flight (like a Gimbal Guard for other drones), DJI themselves recommended that you use the plastic bubble in flight for that purpose. Currently, That plastic bubble is the only option on the market if you'd like to protect the very vulnerable gimbal in flight (when landing to be more specific).

@simonh2011
@simonh2011 7 жыл бұрын

@sferrin2
@sferrin2 7 жыл бұрын
No. The guy quoting wiki should though. There is no such thing as "engineering plastic". There's plastic. That's it. Styrene is styrene whether you call it "engineering plastic" or "model plastic" or styrofoam. There is nothing special about a plastic that makes it "engineering plastic". PEEK is plastic, polycarb (Lexan) is plastic, acetal (Delrin) is plastic, etc. etc . etc. etc. "Engineering plastic" is a marketing term. If I open a drawing for a plastic part it's not going to say "engineering plastic" it's going to have a designation that gives the base, any fill, additives, etc. For example: web.rtpcompany.com/info/data/0200/flame.htm Do you see "engineering plastic" anywhere on there? No. Because it's meaningless. In the immortal words of AvE it's "marketing wank".

"It's still a classification that business and manufacturers use," No. It's not. Nowhere in any of our specs, drawings, etc. does "engineering plastic" appear. Not once in any brainstorming session have I ever heard somebody say, "make sure we use engineering plastic". In fact if anybody did I imagine the looks they'd get would be along the lines of, "how'd you get in here?" Not once have I ever heard a plastics shop refer to anything we were discussing as "engineering plastic". Guarantee if you called a place that does plastic molding and said, "I need a quote for a part made of engineering plastic" they'd say, "have your engineer give us a call".
@chrismullins8061
@chrismullins8061 7 жыл бұрын
Oh hell, talk about useless pedantry. Keep in mind the audience in here. I'd say the ratio of photographers to geeks to manufacturing engineers is around 150:75:1. The review is trying to convey that plastics being used here can take a hit better than the materials used in other products. Besides, there are plenty of companies that sell their higher-grade plastic materials as "engineering plastics". Curbell, Quadrant, Bay Plastics and DSM to name a few from a quick and dirty Google search. If its used in marketing materials, its certainly a good enough phrase to use in a drone review. Which, in essence, is just marketing. So good on you for cluing in the marketing thing. TL;DR - Sure, we might look silly saying "I need this part made of engineering-grade plastic STAT" as a plastics engineer. It just so happens we're not in one of your brainstorming sessions. We're on KZfaq.

so can see 5 km away? Are you aware of drone rules and regulations?

I'm a bit confused as to why not being able to fly 7km would bother you, though; it's as if you bought the whole quad for that. No one should need that distance really :P

Ok first of all I havent heard of Toms tech time yet. That being said, wow. Best full review by far about the magic pro. If DJI wanted to give out future drones for review this guy by far has the most in depth videos out of anyone so far on youtube.
