When birds start trying to “warn” my Mavic Pro, I climb about 50 feet, and then I fly towards them. They usually hightail it out of there. Birds can’t climb as fast as a drone, and when they see it climb quickly and get an advantageous position, and then come after them, they assume it to be predatory.

Lewis_saur The lighter the drone the softer it falls and the less damage it gets. The DJI Mavic mini is only 249 so it had a pretty good change of not getting damaged. :D

I've done that before. A bird was flying close to my Mavic pro and I climbed to get a better position and that bird went back to its nest

I have a lot of birds in my area, it’d be helpful if big channels talked about birds and drones. I didn’t even think about it until my first flight.

Had this happen to me a few times, mainly Gulls. One theory is because the drone hovers, its looked on as a Bird of Prey & threat to the other birds. Best advice I've had is hit the UP on your joy-stick to send the drone vertical as any bird needs to circle to gain altitude & will lose the race..

Throw that thing into Sports Mode and dive up and down causing the props to make a ton of noise.

Also getting above the bird may make it think twice about whether or not your drone might be a predator. Most birds can't fly straight up either.

That could work to scare away the bird but descending that fast might cause vortex ring state.

It happened to me few days ago..As soon as I noticed the birds coming I went up very fast, they disappeared for some seconds and I took advantage to land as soon as possible:)

Yo I just bought mine about 2 weeks ago and it’s great. However I want to warn you by saying that I think you should wait because apparently DJI is releasing the Mini 2 (from what I’ve seen they removed the name Mavic from the name) sometime soon and it’s apparently going to support 4K and have a couple extra features like being able to support DNG and RAW files for photos

I had my Mini a week and was flying around a local park when literally a dozen birds began swarming it. I immediately...and quickly...descended and went elsewhere. Considered myself lucky that day.

If a bird attacks 1) Put your drone into Sport mode and 2) Fly VERTICALLY UPWARDS do not try to fly away horizontally. Birds cannot fly very well vertically but can fly extremely well horizontally. Fly UP, get plenty of vertical separation from the area then fly away to land somewhere else.

Never had it happen, but apparently, flying higher when attacked avoids it, because the normal reaction of a bird under attack would be to dive. Won't do much I think :/

You're right. If birds are attacking fly up then out. Birds cannot climb as quick as most drones so it is a quick way out.

As soon as the bird gives you the warning go vertical fast! Birds cant go straight upwards - then run away!

I’ve had several close calls with red tail hawks and my Mavic 2 Pro. At the first sign of trouble with birds I always switch to sport mode and take evasive action by varying altitude and constantly change direction. Birds aren’t able to make direct horizontal or upward vertical flight changes but a predatory bird like a hawk will come straight down on the aircraft.

Had terns hassle my M2pro about 12 and climbed and went perpendicular to river . Also had tern flying around mini like you but didn’t hit it . I climbed and went out but it was still around when landing . Seems to be around now for them as they must be breeding

When birds approach, the emergency procedure is all the way up on S mode. Not even an eagle goes straight up as fast as a drone

It happened to me once with my Bebop 2 drone. To get out of the situation I raised the drone higher, moved away from the place and landed it in a safe area. Courage and I hope you can repair your Mavic Mini .. That drone is a gem.

as soon as you seen that first bird you should have got out of there!, for anyone who experiences something similar, if you see a bird have a go at you, escape in a way that is unpredictable. Go left right up and down to get out of there, This dude just flew exactly straight which is pretty for a bird to line the drone up and nail it!

That’s the thing with camera drones. They don’t move fast enough to get out there own way and as soon as the props touch something they failsafe and drop like a rock.

Hola....today my Mavic Mini has been followed by a seagull far away to the coastline. It is too much "Mini" for a drone. Be carefull where you fly. So sorry for your drone. Saludos
