The DJI Mic 2 transmitter (standalone version) retails for $99 and features 32 bit float internal audio recording but is it too good to be true?

I made the same mistake getting just the transmitter and ended up buying the transmitter and receiver combo as well just so I could change configuration on the transmitter. This is an oversight by DJI. One option is to go into a DJI store and they will change it for you but it's not practical to do that every time you need a configuration change.

I'm still hoping a future firmware update unlocks 32 bit recording but not holding my breath.

Thanks for making this video. I was about to buy this as a stand alone recorder, but not having access to 32-bit is a deal breaker. The marketing material is misleading and the KZfaq "reviewers" failed to mention this oversight. I also noticed some online stores added a disclaimer that now you need a receiver or a compatible camera to enable 32-bit, when before it read you can change it via the Mimo app.

DJI has dropped future support for iPhone. Apple doesn't play well with others.

Thanks for this. I have a single Mic 2 and bought it because I thought it was a great option for a single 32bit body pack. Sounds like they really didn’t intend for that to be the use case. So it’s going back. I’m gonna get the new Zoom H1 Essiential instead.

I hope a future firmware update will allow you to enable 32 bit on the standalone transmitters. I mean, if you can enable and disable ANC with a button press, you should be able do something similar with 32 bit on/off.

They should have made it a hold the link button and then press the power button to activate 32 bit float... Complain to Support and Maybe a future firmware will resolve?

yeah, exactly. DJI support said they would pass the request along to their dev team so hopefully a future firmware update will allow you to enable 32 bit without having to use another device.

Have you noticed that the microphone records sound very quietly to the internal memory and the sensitivity level cannot be adjusted either?

I got the single transmitter to use with my Pocket 3 and Action 4 and to use it as a microphone when using the Pocket 3 as a webcam. But my disappointment came when I tried to update the transmitter's firmware on my IMac. After spending about 1/2 hour on the phone with DJI tech support, I found that their download for firmware works with Mac OS 11 AND EARLIER. I'm on OS14 and completely out of luck when it comes to updating the firmware unless I buy their receiver, that I don't need, for the transmitter or buy a Windows computer!

Audio with the Bluetooth connection sounds great on the Action 4 and the Pocket 3. But sounds horrible on Phones

Thanks for the video. I just received mine and watched this, before getting it out of the box. Then made a test recording (out of the box without even charging) and it recorded in 32bit float. Hope it keeps working like that. Anyone having any idea how to check firmware version ? Maybe its firmware verson that it comes with specific? What firmware version was on yours?

I'm running the latest firmware (v04.03.08.31) as of 2024-01-31 but my transmitter still only records 24 bit internally. Not sure how to check the firmware version but as far as I know, once 32 bit is enabled it will stay on.

You can go the the DJI offline shop and connect your transmitter to the receiver to enable 32 bit.

Great review. I bought it hoping the same - shame 😏 It has an inbuilt recorder but even that records in 24 bit. I wish there was a way to record 32bit internally 🤷🏻‍♂️

No mention of that but I just assumed that once you enable 32 bit recording it would stay on. But I also assumed that we could enable 32 bit without using another device so take that for what it's worth.

@@TabsOnTech I asked DJI support and they thought that 32 bit would stop being used as soon as the receiver or Pocket 3 was not attached. I tested it out for myself and the transmitters WILL stay at 32 bit float once enabled and used as stand-alone recorders. I made a formal request to have something added to the mimo app to allow for configuring. The other weird omission in the Mic 2 is the ability to have the Mic 2 automatically start a backup recording as soon as a camera connected to the transmitter starts a video recording. I don't imagine many people will remember to manually start a backup recording every time.

I just need to find someone with a full kit now to enable it for me lol. not sure why there is no other way to configure the settings on the standalone units. the mimo app makes sense to me but not to them apparently.

@@AndrewVanBeekOttawa another recently discovered oddity, the DJI Mic 2 doesn't seem to like external TRRS equipped mics/lavs whereas my original DJI Mic kit accepts both TRS and TRRS.
