Quick fix for the overheating issue of the DJI Osmo Action 3 and DJI Osmo Action 4 affected by the EU regulations.
Follow the instructions in this video and your camera will turn off much later, if at all, like cameras without EU regulation do.

This still works on latest firmware, just tested. On 4k 60fps, voice command on, RS, screen on 100% brightness, the camera shut down after 16mins. IR heatgun pegged it at 47deg on the front of the camera. Added the text file and ran it with the same settings and it lasted 52 mins before the battery died....heatgun measured 60c at hottest part.

You are welcome. This method works also with the pocket 3. Just make sure the camera is off when you insert the SD-card back in.

Is it dangerous to use this crack while wearing the Action Cam in a helmet in high summer temperatures? Is there a risk of explosion? I'm a little worried...

No, it's not. The camera will shut off anyways when reaching aprox 60° which in normal conditions it never reaches. This file only bypasses the EU regulations but it doesn't touch the native temperature regulation of the cam.

Thanks. I am testing it now on the pocket 3 in Denmark. First time filming with the Osmo Pocket 3. Just had over heating problems twice in room temparature. Stopped after approx. 14 min. shooting 4K60FPS in H265 (HEVC) with the battery handle attached. Finally after cool of for 30 min. Took the battery handle of and lowered to 4K30FPS. It shoot for 20 min. No over heating. But I would like to shoot with battery handle, so needed a fix. I hope this works.

@@TheBestShowman It really seems to be working. The Pocket 3 is really hot, but has been filming 4K60FPS in HEVC now for over 40 min. with battery handle attached. NO Over Heating :) Thank you so much for this hack.

@@SohailFilmthis is going to ruin the camera… heat is one of the biggest causes of failure in electronics. I’m in the US and mine overheats at 9-12 minutes. 4k60.

Thanks for the instructions. Actually, the video does not show an SD card, but an empty folder called "SD Card" inside the "Documents" folder. However, a formatted SD card of an Action 4 is not empty by default, but contains 2 folders: DCIM and MISC. Since nothing else is mentioned here, I assume that the text file is to be saved outside these two folders, at the root of the SD card.

@@TheBestShowman I connected the Osmo Action 4 to the Mac and created the text file directly on the SD card. I then dismounted the camera and removed and reinserted the battery briefly as instructed. Let's see if that worked. BTW, since I also own the Osmo Pocket 3, which is also reported to have overheating problems, I would love to have a crack like this for it too. Do you know anything about this?

@@Visual_Notes I actually don't know if it works on the Pocket 3. It should! The only problem could be the battery. Because with no way to remove it, probably it will not refresh the memory. It's worth a try. Let me know please.

Thanks for your help, I had to change the camera twice for the problem to be resolved but nothing... after installing your crack it worked perfectly but in any case I'm a little worried about the batteries heating up over long periods of time. Thanks anyway :)

You do not need to worry. The battery never gets that hot. Not hotter then leaving the camera in your car in summer. 🙂

Did work perfectly for me. Bought an Action 3 and record time lasted for only 6-7 minutes. I wanted to send it back but i somehow came to you video. So now the camera does not throw the overheating message at anytime. Could not get it to overheat again. And the camera does not get warmer at all (maybe one degree or two)

do you know if there's a way to install the non EU firmware directly to the action 4 so that the workaround is not needed? I think the action 4 itself is the same in each country, so maybe it will work to set it up with an iPhone which has the US app store and the US DJI app installed?

On windows 10 when I save the file as crackconfig.txt close and reopen it dosent have the txt on the end that you say to remove?

Open File Explorer (open any folder). Click the View tab. Select "File name extension" Filename extensions will now be visible.

@@TheBestShowman thanks. I just done 4k60 in dlog over 90 minutes. I noticed on playback it’s in 20 minute chunks. Didn’t get hotter than 49.5c on a tripod in 15c.

removing a battery overheat procedure doesn't really sound like something safe, especially if you're planning on wearing this camera. is there a way to set the temperature limit to something higher instead of removing it completely ?

It does not remove anything. It just bypasses the limit set by EU regulations. The camera shuts down regularely when reaching a critical temperature like it does in every other country ouside the EU.

@@TheBestShowman well it clearly does something if the limit is 48° and after the fix it works for longer periods. may I ask you at what temperature have you (or anyone else) noticed it turning off after the fix? I'm not attacking you or anything and while I can appreciate the fix you provided I'm just asking if I can expect the battery to overheat and set on fire while being on someone's head XD. my camera is overheating at a day temperature of 18° in the UK while recording at 1080p 60fps, both screens set to shut off after 2 seconds, with no EIS or any other fancy additional setting. I wish the camera wouldn't have this issue and am really hoping your fix works but if it reaches the "overheating" temperatures of 48 degrees in this mild climate, I'm sure as hell worried about taking it to Spain or anywhere else with higher temps. the damn camera shuts off after 8 mins of recording! I have the Action 3 btw with a Samsung EVO Select 128GB UHS-I U3 130MB/s. is the SD type not good for it? thanks for your reply either way

@@yourbadday89 Actually this fix has absolutely nothing to do with the battery overheating. This fix only bypasses the device overheating. It regularely shuts off once reaching approx 60°C. But as I said, this has absolutely nothing to do with the battery. I personally never heard anything about a battery overheating. If it does in your case, I guess something must be wrong with it. By the way, my camera did shut the screen off two or 3 times since I use the fix and kept recording without problems. It never reached a critical temperature... and I live in Germany... The critical temperature where the cam completely shuts off must be somewhere around 70°C. But it never happened to anyone so far I know.

Is FW run a linux fork? This the same way as reset the date in very older camera's. Make txt file contain date: 11,05,2023 place file in root? Than old camera startup?

@@FreezyChannel Oh! I wasn't aware of that. I only own the Action 3 and there were no updates since I bought it! I think DJI doesn't care about this fix, since it helps, somehow, to sell a few more cams in Europe. But... never know. An update to the new fimware is at your own risk. If you do so, I would appreciate if you would give me a feedback if the fix still works. I am positive it does 🙂

We could test other lines in config like: 360fps test :D or maxexposure 30sec if someone gets something else to work let me know.

first I made a recording without your file and the camera turned off after 25 minutes, now I copied your file and the camera is still working

I have a last question. the command line somehow puts the camera into us mode, is that right? but are we sure that the overheating cut-off works well in the same range as in the US and not too high? This tip is tempting but it's true that I'm afraid of damaging the camera. because the line speaks of heat test this sui yourzi say that the latter goes into mode without protection or other change initially planned by the manufacturer. including on us firmware. this is not a statement. I'm just trying to understand the real change in the crack and what it really does

@@Kesa15 All the line does is bypass the 48°C lock. The camera switches off normally when it gets too hot. There is usually a warning and the screen turns off. But the camera continues to record. I never had the camera get so hot that it shut off completely.

@@Kesa15 The camera is programmed so that it switches off automatically when it reaches approx. 60°C. Before this happens, the monitor is switched off first. If the camera still reaches the mentioned 60°, it switches off completely. This is not affected by the command line.
