A quick audio test to compare the onboard camera mic with the external wireless mic and the lossless external mic recording.
00:00 - Onboard Camera Mic from 30cm
01:44 - DJI Wireless Mic with Dead Cat Wind Protection
02:36 - DJI Wireless Mic without Dead Cat
02:55 - DJI Wireless Mic Lossless (recorded on mic)
I forgot to note in the video but the external mic had noise reduction turned off.
This is all filmed on the Osmo Pocket 3 using 10-bit DLOG-M 4K 60p graded in Davinci Resolve using the LUT on the DJI website. Everything else is set to auto and defaults. Image quality is pretty impressive for a camera of this size.
Conclusion

I don't think the DJI mic sounds great. It's clearly very useful but I'm not sure it will win any prizes for audio quality. The clarity and presence of the room is lost compared to the onboard mic but that may be desirable in a high noise environment where isolation of each subject is needed. Although NR was off on the mic, it sounds more like it's on!
I don't think the mic position I chose on my t-shirt was optimal for this mic but that's a pretty standard location to place a mic so it's a fair test.
It's so convenient though and I think a bit of EQ could clean this up a little.

Hi...I am having Dji Mic connection issue green light blinks but own't turn to blue light for correct proper connection. Tried several times no luck,is there how to reset the dji mic? Thx.

Have you notice that the files recorded with the internal mic are recognized in Davinci Resolve as having a 32bits audio track embedded, but DJI specs the internal recording only being 16 bits? Or is my unit the only one in the planet doing that?

Strangely enough, I found the wireless mic sounds better when used outside. Also, the dead cat/ wind muff does its job very well. I have the gen 1 Røde wireless go, and i connected the receiver of the Røde to the external mic jack of the Dji wireless mic, and was able to use the Røde mic, which sounded excellent. It may sound like overkill, but it meant I was still able to use the remote control functions of the Dji mic 2.

I noticed in my dji pocket 3 that when using only internal mics when you power on the camera, and you put it to your ears where is the screen and mic places, you can hear a noise coming out of it.. and it records into the video this noise, like old tv noise… dont know how to describe it.. i can hear in your audio too when using internal.. its a shame that they put near the fan or something like it where the noise comings from..

It's not really crisp in high frequency not deep enough in low frequency. Mids mostly. But doable. For better sound you need a better mic.

Just ordered my combo. I am still not impressed about the DJI mic. you are the first and only youtuber who confirms, that it sounds a bit muffled. the internal mics are much brighter and cleaner. But the comfort of having a wireless mic over a distance is compensating it

However, the overall quality of the wireless mic is much better than the internal. Also, using it outside is a no-brainer anyway :)

If you’ve got low wind and will always be handholding the camera, I genuinely prefer the less ‘noise reduced’ and processed sound of the internal mic. As you say, can’t beat that convenience and flexibility though.

@@tdcattech Plus, the 32 Bit Float Recording in the wireless mic as backup recording. Never worry about clipping etc. again. That's a game changer in the mic/combo.

I’m thinking whether or not to order combo to save money. Can anybody share with me an outdoor video that’s using just the internal mic pls. If i can still hear my voice clearly while recording that’s good enough for me

Why I don’t understand, couldn’t you just equalize them sound of the mic to make it sound more professional? Does it have to be so perfect out of the box? The distance and angle to the mouth obviously is affecting its frequency response. Your expensive boom mic is of course in a way better position. Anyways, thanks for trying it out. I just bought the DJI mic 24bit/96khz and thinking did I make a mistake by not waiting to buy the 32 but float version of it.

Cool ! Question: So when I connect wireless mic and start recording - what happens to the in-camera mic ? Does it get disabled or does it also record audio on second track? Thank you !

It turns off. When you turn off Wireless mic, camera automatically switches to internal one.

@@SergSpace just a note, you can actually find option in settings that allows you to record internal mic together with the wireless one for backup. I have currently Pocket 3 in my office, but can check tomorrow how is that option actually called and where it is.

@@kitsuams I don't need that. I like stereo recording and wireless mic is mono, unless I waste another 100 bucks to buy one more mic. You can record on Wireless mic and Pocket 3 memories separately at the same time if to activate sound recording on mic, but that wasn't the man question.

Very disappointing sound from the mic . I was hoping it would be better then the original as I have always thought the rode wireless sounded the best, and it seems it still does. I am also disappointed that the 32bit float, international recording didn't improve the sound at all, I would like to hear some tests with a lav mic plugged in doing an A/B between on mic recording files and the Bluetooth sound.

i got the combo and this mic but after seeing this video, i will never use that mic. dji dropped the ball on this one. very poor audio quality in my opinion.
