I just purchased my Standard and I have watched dozens and dozens of videos. Your video was so enjoyable and easy to follow. I'm new to this, so a simple flight video like this is VERY appreciated. I am trying to do as much pre-flight preparation before actually flying it. We all have to start somewhere. Thank you for your simple, intuitive video. :)

9:07 if you are a beginner. never start the drone facing yourself. always have it facing forward with you.

Agreed wholeheartedly!!! :-) Even for an intermediate level pilot such as myself, I always launch my drones facing away from me -- that way if I get into a pickle right off the bat, I don't have to concern myself with port/starboard orientation and can direct all of my faculties on saving the drone.

I recently got a DJI Phantom 3 Standard - a DJI refurbished one that had a nice discount. I flew 2 other drones prior to the DJI, both did not have GPS. They were a struggle to control and the video wasn't great - they were great practice however, and I didn't have to worry about all the crashes into trees, the house and a basketball hoop! The DJI is much easier to fly and the video is great. I enjoyed your video and seeing how someone new to drones did on an initial flight. You did really well considering it was a first flight. Thanks for sharing!

Great job and greetings from Philadelphia Pa. I just got a DJI 3 Standard and have most of the preparation done, but had trouble getting it to start. The controller wasn't fully charged and my back yard has many obstructions like trees and wires. I'm going to give it another try in a big open field. I totally agree with you that I want to get my flying skills down before worrying about camera settings and will be shooting at 1080P. My plan for the drone is video of sailing my sailboat and landing it on a small area while moving so strong pilot skills are a must.

SV In Like Flynn I'm from Philly also. I just bought my P3S yesterday. Do you know of any good places to fly without having a problem with police or people. I wanted to try taking off from the Art Museum steps, but don't really know how that's going to go with the cops and all.

Thumbcakes _ I'm still getting the feel for a Phanton 3 and it disappeared on me once, cake back to where it lifted after I went looking for it. I almost landed it in a tree once too. I'm gonna do more practice in Fairmount Park (Belmont Plateau) before I take it anywhere crowded like the Art Museum. I don't think the cops will really mind if you are in control of the drone and keep it under 400 feet. And probably wait for any cops to leave before you start it. I was warned by a local cop on Hatteras that flying drones was illegal in National Parks which Hatteras is. I should looked around better before pulling it out of the car. Good luck!

Lukas, great video however I would like to stress your tightening those propellers too much, your going to eat the threads on them self tightening propellers, just spin them and when they stop just ensure they are firmly on and dont try and tighten them further. Just FYI, the reason..least wise according my book on my old Phantom...you never move the quad when it is calibrating on the GPS satellites. It can confusing it because of the changes of the satelite positions it first saw before you take off. Always look for gps LOCK before turning the copter around to have camera face the direction you might want.

Bonjour Lucas Peux-tu me conseiller pour l'achat de filtre UV et ND pour mettre sur la caméra de mon, Phantom 3 ? Je suis complètement débutant en photo / video...La seul chose que j'ai cru comprendre pour utiliser les filtres est qu'il faut mettre l'iso au plus bas ( 100 ou moins)... merci de tes conseils... Au fait tu tiens absolument à ce que l'on communique en anglais ? Si oui je ferais un effort la prochaine fois bonne journée

Oops, you need to turn on your remote first!! This can cause serious problems with the drone. After watching you being so careful then you turn on the quadcopter. Make sure you turn the transmitter on first.

What he said. Establish the command before the bird has power so it knows what you want it to do. Otherwise a rogue signal may cause it to spool up without any notice. Might be a bad day if that happens.

Nice video Lukas, I'm also a photographer based in Kent Uk. I' thinking on buying a drone as i also enjoy making videos. The model i'm looking at is the Yuneec Q500. I'm a first time flyer but i understand these quadcopters are fairly easy to fly with the GPS's locked in!! Looking forward to further videos from your experiences. Cheers Jon.

Jon, I have had the Phantom 3 Advanced and now the Phantom 3 Professional, honestly speaking the Yuneec comes no where close to the Phantoms. There is an expo which will be going on at NEC Bham on the 5th and 6th and the top quadcopter manufacturers will be there, my advice is go there and try them out. I'm 110% sure you will find that the Phantom 3 is far more superior then any of the other quadcopters within its range. I have done all my research before I did my purchase, thinking of purchasing the Inspire now for special occasions. Good luck.

+Michael Kitchen cheers for that bud, I definately will do, going abroad in December after the expo so got my DBS Mod, Windsurfers and Power Mod ready for some long range flights, where I'll be going its just open fields and no planes to worry about and mainly private land of ours which is acres and acres of it lol Can't wait for the expi read saw some video of the DJI X or something which I'm very interested of.

Hi! just a quick question about the DJI Phantom 3 Standard remote: Do I turn the power switch on or off when I plug it in? The red light turns on when I plug it in while it's powered off, but when I turn it on the green lights show the charging level. I couldn't find anything online about it.

You can charge it with or without power switch being on.

I keep getting that home point not recorded message too.. but a home point gets set each time automatically for some reason... still don't know the reason.. maybe a bug

Good idea going early. I live right next to a field which is surrounded by some residential and there is a great big school being built near me so I want to get a better look at that - obviously not getting too close though. It's a good idea because there are lots of kids around who would probably harass me if I went when they were awake. Have you ever been in a situation where you were flying and have people ask to have a go or where they chase the thing around? I'm worried that that will happen when I get mine.

+Morgan Mitchell never had people asking me to have a go, I'll tell them to go on there way. Kids following it, YES! I just fly off quickly, get in a safe place and ask the kids to go as it's dangerous. But I wouldn't film in a place where there are kids playing around.

It can do: 2.7k at 30fps 1080p at 30fps 720p at 60fps Hope that helps!

Hello, I've seen many reviews about the DJI Phantom Standard and none of them have said how you remotely move the camera (an example would be to face the camera down) do you use the app or is there a way to do it on the controller? Thanks.

You cannot actually move the camera left and right you can only move the actual drone as the legs would be in the way. However you can move it up and down 90° with the circular knob on the remote.

You appear toknow what you're doing with this drone. I have the P3S and have been unable to complete registration online via the go app. It says "enter verification code". Huh? what is that? I have no code, all I have is the wifi password 12341234. I did the update, metric/imperial, beginner mode, yada yada and come to this 'verification code' thing and stop, I'm stuck for over a month on this. Anybody have a clue? Thanks.
