Didn't know about the power button to knock the screen off for a moment. I would never have thought of having an SD card in the controller slot just as a spare, great idea!! Cheers for another helpful video sir 😊👍

Thanks for enlightening us about the uses of an SD card in the RC. The feature I liked most was the bit about having a back up SD to use when the SD in your drone runs out of room in the field. However, only just put that to the test last night. I was doing a critical shoot in downtown Toronto when I got the dreaded "out of storage" warning on my screen. So, I brought down my Mavic 3 to swap out the SD with the one from my RC, and even fired a test photo on the ground to make sure the shutter would fire without any warnings or error messages. It fired, although I did not check to see if it recorded the image, and I assumed that all the photos and video I was capturing without any error messages from the air were being recorded. To my horror, though, when I got the card home to download my images, they weren't there! I explored every folder in the Android file system and could not find a single image or video with the current date. I can also assure you I had plenty of room on the card (5.5 GB used out of 128 GB). The ONLY thing I could think of as the possible problem was that the SD card was formatted for the RC and not the Mavic 3. But reviewing your video here again, it sounds like that shouldn't be the issue. Any ideas as to why it didn't record? Or if it did, where the files might be hiding?

Hi Dee. I have just checked this with my mini 3 pro using the card from the controller. I took 3 pics and it stored them in the DCIM folder. Not sure why yours didn’t record them? My only thought would be that because you ran out of storage it defaulted to the internal storage on the Mavic. Have you checked in there?

The tip to secure the screen "buttons" by pressing the power button sounds useful. As a beginner I would like to deactivate the C1 button. Pressing it by accident ruins the recording, gimbal diving to straight down.... One other Tuber, or maybe You, pointed out that the RC memory card could be considered as a spare wheel for the drone, in case the drone card gets full.

I had that same problem with the C1. One of the options when you get into where you can set it for a couple different things. One of those is turn on/off some of your lights. I just set both my C1 buttons to that as I don't care one way or the other if the lights are on or off. I don't remember how you access them, but it is really in one of the set up screens. If you can't find it, let me know. Good Luck

@@cjctucson7683 I found it! Power up the drone and the controller. Press the 3 dots up to the right. Select "control" and scroll down to "Button Customization". There it is! I selected "None" for the moment.

It happened to me twice. I am at a place where i want to fly my drone and as i turned it on it says no sd card. I was shocked but i remembered that i have an sd on my rc so i just inserted it on the drone and that was a big relief.

Thanks for the great tips Nobby. I’ve got an RC on order so can’t test myself yet but I heard that the SD card could also be used to Cache the base mapping by scrolling around the zoomed in map before going in to any areas with limited internet connection. Sounds useful if true. Is this right?

The 960px540p was new to me, thanks for another good tips video. Yes, I usually screen record for fun regardless of if I intend to use or need it for posting to anywhere, it's so simple to do. I have not tried this but if you are shooting in Vertical mode, then does the screen recording do that same format?

If you shoot in vertical mode the screen will orient the same way for vertical 👍

👍🏽 Great info. I noticed a 128gb disk doesn’t read in the controller to play back videos and photos. 32 or 64 has no issues.

@@nobby-green Yeah, I only use a 32 when I'm flying. I put the 128 in there to look at my photos and videos before and as I got more videos and photos it stopped reading it.

It's such a shame that this SD card cannot be set to simultaneously record what the card in the drone is recording so that if you did have a crash / loss or card failure everything was on the controller SD card. In my handheld cameras I have the comfort of dual card slots just in case one card failed

If you screen record you will have a copy of the flight. Also the flight logs are stored. 👍

@@nobby-green but it isnt a full second copy of photos and video Nobby. If the drone failed say over water and was lost, all photos and footage taken in hi-res and 4k are lost too. If the aircraft and controller recorded like this at the same time it would be superb - thanks for the reply

I’m having issues with dji air 3 RC shutting off once causing the drone to RTH, two other time I was able to get it back on so now I’m recording the screen, I see no reason to save then if the flight went ok or I need to view the area I’m flying over, l would think this would pull the battery down quite a bit??? I am just a recreational flyer at this time.

Hi Clive. I don’t own the new RC but from my experience it doesn’t take much of the battery to screen record. I do it virtually on every flight. I would delete them if you don’t need them 👍 hope this helps. Thanks 🙏

Hi Nobby. This may sound stupid but should I format the sd card that goes into the actual drone in the RC2 controller then put it in the drone, then format the sd card for the controller.

You may have a faulty card? You could try to format the card again to see if it works. 👍

My screen recordings are being saved to internal storage instead of the SD card. I’ve scoured the menus and don’t see a way to force it to the SD. The card is formatted and the controller is the RC (i.e., not RC Pro). Am I missing a step?

@@moonlightingvideos996the only reason it would default to the internal memory is if you didnt have a card installed or it wasnt formatted? theres no setting on the RC to change them, and on the RC 2 its default for the internal memory and you cant change that either. but you can move the files to an DS card.

You can indeed. Just make sure it’s an A2 U3 rated card. And it has V30 stamped on it. The write speed is important 👍

I can't put an SD card in my RC2 controller, it does not hold inside and it's written sd card unavailable. Maybe the sd card is not the good one (scan disk 128 GB) If someone can help me.

You have to press it in with a small tool until you hear a click. It should then stay in 👍

"Do you really NEED an SD card?" No. You also don't really NEED a drone. But now that you've got it, in order to use all the features then the SD card is needed.

Expanding the memory, storing an sd card in the slot as a spare. the other tips were formatting, and disabling the screen.

Hi Nobby, great video. I'm new to drones excuse me if answered this as a lot to take in. Looking at a mini 3 and can't decide whether to get the RC handset or original handset. I can transfer 4K from the drone to phone using quick transfer and screen recordings I need to take out the microwave SD for screen recordings and upload to phone using a Micro card phone adaptor which will be a lower resolution. Is that correct, also does original handset transfer screen recordings at 4K Tough choice Thanks @@nobby-green

@@Jimmycricket- it’s personal preference on the controllers but I would recommend the DJI RC. No need to connect the phone every time. Screen recording is saved to the sd card and you would transfer by removing the card. The screen recordings are not 4k however. Hope this helps

@@Jimmycricket- so long as you record on the drone yes. You have the option to select the record resolution in the app from 1080p to 4k. Those will be stored on the drone sd card so long as you have the card selected and not internal storage 👍

@@Jimmycricket- yes it’s a lot better than the 2 but if you can afford it I’d highly recommend the mini 4 pro. There are a lot more features on that one 👍

hi there i have flown fixed wing for years then hubsan drones given up on them jumped ship and now have a dji mini 3 combo just fitted a 256gig card to my tranny happy flying by the way ytube has started using a old acc name im bu tt on moon all one word like the kids program lol happy flying

Yeah they have started to use what they call handles. I’m sure you will be happy with the mini 3 👍
