I dont understand why ppl comment so much about someone being underrrated, especially when they have history of wins that can be talked about. Within the hip hop industry, I cant really think of any artist's djs who they had spinning for them. The only one I can name is Mr Mixx from 2 Live Crew. From prnewswire: DJ Jazzy Jeff's rich legacy in music includes a DMC Championship and multiple GRAMMY Awards, American Music Awards, and NAACP Image Awards. Introduced to the world as one half of DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, his accomplishments extend beyond his multi platinum, Grammy-winning TV collaborations with Will Smith.

Their manager who fleeced them decided to let them go and form another group from scratch. Enter New Kids On The Block. He tried the same shit but forgot they were white boys. There was a great interview with the band Van Halen, where they were explaining the whole points thing. They were the biggest band in the early 80’s, and they were getting checks for 80 cents to split between the four of them. They went to deposit those checks in the bank, and while doing that they discovered a whole list of names associated with their bank account that none of them even knew. They were getting ripped of from every direction, and they were white. Imagine how dirty it was for black artists. Stuff like, Muddy Waters for example got paid with a Cadillac he didn’t even ask for. Aretha Franklin was smart and learned early. She wouldn’t go on stage until she was paid in cash. Then she put that cash in her purse and brought it on stage with her. Respect.

As someone who worked in the music industry for three decades, don't get a manager. Get a lawyer they wasn't recommended by the label. Then get a second lawyer on retainer to review everything independently before you sign. Nothing shady, not every lawyer is perfect and sees everything or has the best option. Don’t get it twisted. If someone is “independent” it’s one of three options: 1. They spent a boatload on promo until a song hit and then got the attention and most times the help of a major to carry on the momentum 2. They have a distribution deal that they just so happen to keep quiet or 3. They’ve got ties to Spotify and/or Apple Music No big “independent” artist is actually 100% independent. I’m in the UK and Stormzy, one of the biggest artists here said for years he was independent. Because I’m in the industry I came to find out he had ties to the biggest streaming platforms and also had a distribution deal. Nobody actually making real money from music is solely independent.

Hoping he appears on the reboot “Bel Air.” They’ve had the originals come in with relationships to their new characters, so he will have some relationship to the music industry…probably as a crooked record exec or club promoter. Maybe they’ll even make some scene where Phillip Banks gets the new Jazz out if trouble with the old Jazz and confronts him at their mansion…threatening to “throw him out” if he doesn’t leave, as a nod to the iconic joke. I think the original Geoffrey will appear as the new Geoffrey’s father who lives in England. Tatiana Ali has already appeared as the new Ashley’s teacher, and the old Vivian has appeared as a mentor to the new Vivian.

not the same. Monique was slammed for wanting them to pay for something they historically didnt pay for. She was supposed to tour for the movie and ask for accommodations that they didnt usually give. On netflix, she wanted money in which they didnt want to pay her. She provided no services, they owed her nothing. Monique deserved being slammed. She had a self inflated ego with a small body or work and high demands at the time. Now, did she break down barriers but demanding more, yes, but at the time, she was new in the industry to many and needed to play the game.

@@ronaldmcdonald1977 I don't know but what does what has never happen before mean you can't require it. That's how the bar is moved.. Nike NEVER paid a percentage of shoe sales until Jordan doesn't mean he can't ask for it. You determine your worth and value. As for her body of work why do you think Lee Daniels begged her to play that part because of her body of work she already had a hit sitcom ( the Parkers) she had already broken records with Queens of Comedy etc. She won how many awards for them for Precious she was the movie. If she wasn't worth it why once the dust clears Lee Daniels came back to her for another movie..Netflix came back to her for another special. This woman has been in over 20 films and sitcoms and HBO specials. So the body of work has always been there. What she showed us is people will shrink you done and try to devalue you if you allow them. She knows her worth and they got mad because she just didn't accept what they were trying to offer her. You can't open doors for others that were never close to you first! So my friend it is the same thing. Lee Daniels didn't give Monique her start she gave him his.

Taken advantage of young native artists and athletes and actors is not something very new. Left Eye said it plain and clear. She gave us the heads up during that old interview back in the early 2000'S . Fast forward in 2023. It has not change. The manipulation and lying has not stop. Companies and labels knows exactly what they are doing when it comes to the artists, athletes, actors needs.

Correct, but TLC was wiring our LaFace Records and Pebbitone Productions in the mid-90s at a time when it was unheard of for artists to speak publicly. They (namely T-Boz and Chili) did it during the years when they were at the height of their career in the press room following winning an American Music Award or 2.

That's why people today like Tom Mcdonald had his girlfriend, sister, brother in law, mother and father that contributes to his business. They do all of the work as far as labeling, boxing, addressing and sending out every single c.d. our piece of merchandise (merch) he sells. Completely independent on all of social media and all the streaming services ect ect... And he's getting paid...100% of his money. No one is pocketing any of his money and that's the most beautiful thing about all of this technology and social media. It makes it possible for regular artists that are talented, too not get exploited and gives them the ability to compete with $Billion$ dollar corporations and take the number 1 spot on the charts. Amazing!
