Great video. I have the Ikegami TM20-80R Broadcast Monitor. Love the Ikegami’ shadow mask screen and the curved screen better than the Sony’s. More arcade like for my Neo Geo AES, MVS and NGCD collection.

Thanks 👍 Maybe one day i will find an elusive PaintboxHD which existed in the early 1990s during the early research into analog HD TV.

That's awesome. What a score. And I agree with you, it's nice to have it paired up with Quantel's rather than video games, it's what it's made for.

I have a brand new Sony BVM that I bought in the 90's. Still have the box and all the documentation too.

One of the HD mobile units I worked in had one of these. It was replaced with an inferior LCD monitor

Yep, i think an LCD at that time would have been a bit of a downgrade. Only a modern OLED screen could compete with it.

I see you like the ikegami i also really like your retro style you who are an experienced man could you help me to get the service manual for the ikegami tm 15-70R and if it is similar to the htm 15-17R or the schematics of the plates - please

I have this monitor too. I do use mine for games though! Swapped out the fan for a Noctua. Also you can enable 480p by toggling a dip switch on the remote board. Ikegami used to charge for that 'service' if you can believe it. Very cool that they're hooking you up with a replacement knob cover. I'd like the 16:9 mask myself - where did you contact them?

Yes i do need to swap the fan, i was surprised they didn't use a bigger fan that was more quiet given how much space there is in the case. I have been talking to the european arm in Germany. I have both the user and service manuals if you need them.

You weren't wrong about the price on ebay! Saw one sold for £3,350! 😮

The retro gaming community found them being offloaded for buttons and snaffled up loads. Then word got out and the prices went mental accordingly. Thankfully I got mine via Dexterslab and a couple more from an ex-engineer later before it all went mental. I am technically one of the people using it for retro-gaming mind you. But in my defense, I repair/restore old consoles and computers, many of which don't have available mods to get them working on UK TVs so having a good monitor is kinda handy when it comes to making solutions for that. Also what makes that model particularly expensive (along with Sony BVM D models) is that it's essentially dual sync. In that it's can do 15khz and 31khz. Super rare to find domestic monitors that do that (Microvitec used to make a couple of models for Acorn, and Commodore had one also here. Some very rare NEC Multisync's from back in the day also). So a 20" monitor that you can plug everything into is pretty much the holy grail and they command insane money. Or you can do what I do, run a 20" PVM and a 19" LaCie Electron Blue into an Extron switch and route everything through that and save yourself several thousand quid.

Is the Paintbox running at 576i?
@DextersTechLab

Yes, it's over SDI in this case. The older Paintboxes (like the DPB-7000) are 625/525 line analog.
