Friday afternoon and I'm watching Blockbuster training videos from 1990. Fucking quarantine....

12 years old on a Friday meant ordering pizza and going up to Blockbuster and renting some movies. Those were good times.

Now I can finally apply for that job at Blockbuster!!!!!

I was a student at that time and working in the local video rental in our small town on Friday and Saturday. Roughly 25% of customers where coming to rent p.rn movies. I just imagine the young woman giving recommendations based on those customers interests...

I had the opportunity to live in the era of video cassettes :) I still remember the joy on watching movies on this and sometimes being the first one to get a copy of a new release!! That tape used to be scratch-less and never used to get stuck!! Miss those days..

Sadly, I know managers from past jobs who are this micro managing and nothing’s ever enough.

For most of my life we had three major video rental stores in my hometown, Block Buster, Hollywood Video and Hastings. At one point when I was pretty young I remember one or both of my parents having an account with all three of them. We honestly used Hastings way more than the other two but sometimes the other two might have a better selection at that time. In my town Hollywood Video was the first one to bite the dust, they went when I was around 16ish in 2004, Blockbuster was next and held out until around 2008 or 2009 before they sank and Hastings held out until just a couple of years ago. We truly lost something from this era, it was a family affair for us to make a night of going and spending an hour at Hastings looking at stuff to rent, it may have been less convenient than the Netflix and Hulu we have today, but it was one of those little experience's you take for granted because you think naively it'll always be that way but one day...It'll change. I will always be thankful to have the memories of those evenings with my family.

Rest in peace video stores. Back in 1990 I went to the video store wearing ugg boots that I forgot to change. I felt embarrassed to be wearing them while choosing a GI Joe, wrestling or Police Acedemy movie. Little did I know of the wacky clothes I would wear in the future.

I was 20 yrs old. Blockbuster was everything . Weekend movie nights hoping the movie you wanted wasn't out of stock. Going home and ordering Pizza . 💜

I remember my days of working there. Buster would never get off my back about putting the candy in order. One time I got the M&M's and the Pistachios mixed up! Boy did he Busta Nut!

I remember those Fridays when the new movies would come out and what a thrill it was to get the last available copy of a hot new movie. And how cool it was to chat with the Blockbuster staff about new movies. Blockbuster was cool.

Walking into a blockbuster when I was a kid was fucking mind blowing. All the pictures in the VHS tapes and all the varieties and the pictures. It was like a candy store. Only a few stores give me the same feeling today, and I find that they are the stores bombarding you with all kinds of variety. Notice that most stores are now more “modern” with only a few things hanged up.

Reminiscent of great old days, Friday afternoon hits, I go with my dad to Blockbuster and rent a game (hoping its in stock), and then picking up some popcorn and snacks. Blockbuster introduced me to lots of "classic" movies like Starship Troopers, Aliens, and even The Princess Bride. Fond memories.....

Why do I want a series of this and to be able to rent it from BlockBusters?

I loved coming to Blockbuster video in the mid 90's. When it was too hot out there, I came to Blockbuster for some good old movies, especially if I didn't catch the game that night. They didn't have hot fudge sundaes or lasagna, but they sold plenty of popcorn and sour patch kids!

Well I've filled up at the buffet training video and now I've got myself home to sit back and enjoy a nice blockbuster rental,,,,,,, can life really get any better 😩

This is so 80s even though its 1990, culturally it's still the same as the years 1988 and 1989 but a watered down version. Things don't just magically dissappear once a new decade hits. The 80s did not end as soon as 1990 hit!!! it spilled through just like how the late 90s spilled through to the early 2000s.

Buster Sales is absolute menace and should be classified as an info hazard.

I used to go a lot as a kid, and every so often, I have a dreams now where I’m in a giant blockbuster. Now it’s gotten to the point where my memories of blockbuster aren’t memories at all but memories of the dreams I’m having about it.
