Machine like is an understatement, this De La Salle squad was the face of the high school national championship, easily the best coached program in the nation.

WOW, I never thought I would find video of this game lol, thank you for uploading it. What an incredible streak, 12 consecutive perfect seasons, 151 straight wins, I don't think we will ever see another streak like that again in high school football. I think people may still be talking about this streak next century lol.

This was my team. 2002 was a year of Redemption. Cal Lee gone... Coach Tengan at the helm. Kahuku standing tall as the champs for the past 2 years. Everyone on the islands saying Saint Louis was done, no more Koas or banners now that the Red Raiders had it all. In my recollection, they also got hammered by Long Beach Poly in the early game. Anyways even with the loss a return to dominance with a 35-14 victory over the Castle "Black Knights" at the 2002 HHSAA State Title game showed our best days were not behind us. Always remember the end our QB Bobby G handling business when they jumped over the line before the snap.. Took care of business that night and returned another Koa and banner to the rugged slopes of Kalaepohaku..

Amazing program, and a classy organization. The halftime show was better than anything I’ve seen at the NFL level. What an absolutely incredible trip it was for us.

Saint Louis got stomped the following week by Kamehameha. Kahuku was a very young team as well in '02. Funaki and Pula were the horses for those 2 state title teams. This was the last good team for Saint Louis before Cal Lee returned years later.

I watched this and the Kahuku game on TV. Kahuku was huge but so slow compared to LB Poly. I thought STL held their own and they were much bigger than DLS, but it was amazing how quick DLS was. DLS was like that mythical team you hear about but to see them actually play was something else.
@marcvslicinivscrassvs7536 Жыл бұрын
DLS had the horses at the skill positions back in the day. Colvin and Fitzgerald came up big at WR when necessary and MJD needs no explanation.

That St. Louis Honolulu team with Olin Kruetz, Dominic Raiola, and Chris Fuamata-Maafala (all 3 made the NFL) should have played a top rank team in the nation.

I think the '02 team was ranked in the top five when De La Salle (#1 at the time) played them in this game.

@@Uso37 Hart played @ St Louis in 1995 and lost a close 1 score game where Hart did not play its best ball, Hart went 13-1 in 1994 losing to Antelope Valley in the Championship, and they went 13-1 or 12-2 in 1995 winning CIF at the time, Since Coach Cal Lee arrived in 1982, St. Louis has lost only one nonleague game. That was in 1990, a 40-0 rout at the hands of Canyon, Hart’s Foothill League rival.

@@brighthought11I remember that STL-Canyon game. I just read about it in the paper the next day, it was shocking, especially since STL had been dominant for so long in Hawaii. I wonder if STL had a bad game, Canyon had a great game, or Canyon was just that much better, or maybe a combination.

It was televised... I remember thinking, "Damn... (Long Beach-Poly) is fast!! Hawaii high school football doesn't see that kind of speed!!" What I really admired about DeLasalle at the time, was their discipline. They were a fine tuned machine...

LB and De La Selle should of played kahuku and st louis in 2001. Those were there better years than 2002
@ZOANOM Жыл бұрын
Wouldn’t have mattered. DLS would still have destroyed them. 2002 was much more exciting because it was supposed to be a “down year” for DLS, but it turned out to be one of the best teams throughout the Streak. I think St Louis avoided DLS in the previous years and thought they would be able to win against the Spartans after many of their D1 bound players graduated. Didn’t work out so well.
@redboylegend1262 Жыл бұрын
@@ZOANOM no one will ever know. LB pretty much played Kahuku’s jv team since they lost all their starters to graduation the previous year. St louis loss to kahuku 2 yrs in a row before this year and they had a way better team with Timmy chang and what not. It would’ve definitely been a more competitive game for Poly and DLS and possibly even a loss. 2002 Kahuku and St louis were definitely rebuild years for them.
@ZOANOM Жыл бұрын
@@redboylegend1262 Yeah, yeah, you’re preaching the same old sermon that every team in the country preached during those years. DLS beat them all, and kept beating them. Poly was supposed to destroy DLS a few weeks after this game, and they got shut out 28-7, with a gimme score late. Sorry, all the “coulda, woulda, shoulda was addressed.
