The Cowsills were family band of 6 kids, ages 7-18, and their mom. The four that are still alive play together and still sound amazing. This performance was a TV Special, called The Wonderful World of Pizzazz, which was about the wigs and fashions of the era. The idea was to have the Cowsills sing Hair, wearing wigs from Japan, as a complete departure from their reputation as a clean cut, all American family. It was their last, and biggest hit. A physically (and other ways) abusive father ruined everything, acting as their manager.

The Cowsills ,.."The Rain, the Park and Other Things" was one of their hits. When their oldest brother Billy was dying of cancer they reunited to do a benefit concert to pay his bills in 2005. It is the best version of that song and of course the family got bigger. As for.. HAIR...You can tell they prerecorded it and I saw them in a recent interview saying that they had forgot little Susan and went back to add her singing "and spaghetti" ....Cowsills "The Rain, The Park, Other Things" From 2013 CD "The Billy Cowsill Benefit"... Don't ask me why the CD is 2013 but it definitely was recorded in 2005 as Barry (The one with the hat in that video) disappeared during Hurricane Katrina. He was found later and they got word of him being identified as they were heading to/preparing for Billy's funeral.

There was a TV show called ...Love American Style.... The Cowsills did the theme song for the 1st season. The show was not one with a regular cast or story line. It was all different short stories using different actors and celebrities. One of them was Called.... Love And The Happy Days...That is how ...Happy Days ...got started.

I heard it last 55 years ago. It was fun then. It made me smile today. Kawabunga!

I love the Cowsills, only learned about them a year ago. I watch the Hair vid at least once a week. The wigs they wore in the vid were from Japan. I love Bill, he is the one with the crazy big hair. ❤

What memories!

Just an added bit of info on the Cowsills... the rock group influenced the creation of the television show..."The Partridge Family" back in the late 60's early 70's. The producers even wanted the little sister (Susan???) to be in the tv show...but the family said "no way." ALSO...this song was from a very popular Broadway musical called "Hair" which was very controversial...due to the use of full frontal nudity in the play..etc Carl Reiner produced this particular television special and requested the Cowsills create their on recorded version of the song for his tv show...and lip sync to it on the television special. During that time the Cowsills had a big No #1 hit called "Indian Lake" and were touring. They had to stop the tour...go into the studio...create the recording of the song; "HAIR" and send it off to Carl Reiner...then made the clip which you are viewing now. Interesting????

I grew up during this time, and "Hair" was a big issue during the 60s.

The 60s; you had to be there; this was when the Hippie era was in full swing. I was a little girl ; the Cowsills were big & I guess if I could have been a groupie at the age of ten it might have happened, but I was way too young for that AND the musical ( & have yet to watch it after all this time!) Funny how speechless you were; I wouldn't have thought this song would have had that effect but anyway thx for giving it a listen.

This is my anthem! I'm 68 with shoulder length hair! You have a generational challenge understanding this song. Back in the 60's it was disgraceful for a man to have long hair. The Beatles were highly criticized for their 'long' hair! By today's standard The Beatles hair wasn't long at all, at least when they first became a hit. Also, none of that hair on The Cowsills was real. They were so square they were cubical! Loved your reaction to the song! You should check out Rain, the Park, and Other Things. The title has nothing to do with the song, BTW. Susan Cowsill was about 9 or so when this was performed. She and her two surviving brothers still tour and do performances around the country. She's in her 60's now!
