I read the book about their adventures, called The Whale Warriors, and early on they mention that they can't do truly illegal shit because that would brand them as international terrorists/pirates, and that would mean they wouldn't be able to dock at most ports around the world. It would be nice to see them totally trash the whaling ships and maybe throw in a few floaties so the crew wouldn't immediately drown, but in this case the laws that we humans make are shackles against protecting the environment

@@alexhill828 False, they actually raised the total yearly while Sea Shepard was there. It was in excess of 200 by the time they pulled out of the southern ocean. As for the commercialization of it. That was bound to happen anyways. It had nothing to do with Sea Shepard it had to do with Japan being a part of the IWC. When they first joined the IWC they thought it would be a temporary measure until regulations could be set in place governing yearly catch quotas. As the years went by they realized it was going to be permanent so they pulled out, the whole "Research" thing was just to allow them to continue while in the IWC, now they don't need it. In regards to Sea Shepard. The whalers hit their limits every year. The limits set by the Japanese government were what was keeping the whalers from killing whales, not hippies on boats.
