I am certainly not an expert, but I think that the one with the intake pipe will run better with a larger prop at lower RPM, and the other one with the carb mounted directly to the head will run better with a smaller prop at higher RPM. No need to worry about valve float at high RPM with the rotary valve. This is great subject matter for your channel David!

Waiting for the comment from a viewer saying, “Those were the engines I was bidding on!"

HaHa.........Love your analogy on bidding tho.............Never understood bidders that keep bidding on anything that doesn't end for 5-6 days..................as if they're going to suddenly win before the ending date.....😁

I do not recall saying anything like that Mike.

Given the vastly different carb placement, I say run them both to compare 😁

Thanks for sharing David! As far as I can remember the first T-4s came out in the early 1980s, approximately the time when I quit the hobby and those were the ones with the carb screwed directly in the upper cylinder head. So this one is an older version of the T-4.

Run the one on the right with the traditional carb set up. At least it’s a familiar set up fo you David. I’m intrigued because they’re belt driven OHC set ups so would be a unique engine for your channel

I have videos for both the Webra T-4-60 and T4-80 engines so this style engine is not new to the channel. Only this particular engine is new.

Have one, absolute my favorite 40 fourstroke, very forgivning on the needles, even without nitro! Peter, Sweden

That's strange that the intake and exhaust are reversed. There is a Saito FA-120 (early production) currently on Ebay that has the intake and exhaust reversed and it made me wonder if it would run that way.

Well maybe they got a lot of feedback from customers about the tank height location required for the carb and decided to redesign the head and change the model number. That makes the most sense.

Hey David, in a german forum they say the engine with the rear carb came out later. My two Webra T4-80 have the carb both mounted at the side. Btw Art.-Nr. just means the webra article or item number of the engine.

Being that the carb and exhaust is opposite between these engines, I'm thinking that one runs clockwise and the other counterclockwise. Just my guess.

Yes that would seem to be a reasonable deduction. The only review articles I could find cover the 1044 version with the carb directly mounted to the left side of the head. No mention was made in that review about this operating in the opposite direction. Since this video I have run the 1043 version with the intake manifold and carb attached to the rear of the head. It too operates in the normal dirrection.

@@dmrcflyr2 I have a couple of Abitar 120 engines that can run in either direction just by switching the carb and muffler around. It's especially desirable if using two of these engines on a plane for better balancing and there's no cam timing adjustment needed. There is a timing option available for changing the power band I think because the cam pulleys have "A" and "B" stamped on them. That's why I thought your Webra engines rotated opposite of each other due to the location of the carb and muffler. I have a Webra T4-80 but because of the way the carb and muffler is mounted, I don't have a way to test that theory. As always, thanks for the great content you post.

I suppose the valves are the same for intake and exhaust ? If so then if the cam is the same also, it would all be about timing and change/ move the carb & muffler.

There are no valves or cams in this engine. it is a rotary valve four stroke more like an HP VT 49. Read the review articles on it.
