Dimethyltryptamine, or DMT, is a potent psychedelic drug commonly found in nature. Some suggest DMT is also produced by our brains and contribute to a wide variety of experiences. Scientists have also been intrigued by the possibility that DMT would be involved in, for example, psychiatric disorders and the generation of psychedelic experiences or dreamlike states. In this video, I will briefly examine the physiological function of putative endogenous DMT from a pharmacological perspective.
I'd be happy to hear your thoughts about this matter and continue the discussion down below in the comments section.

I think about this almost everyday. Even had a heated discussion with someone regarding how old dinosaurs were, he kept mentioning a machine that could tell the year. Like come on now, were you or the machine actually there with the dinosaurs? Nobody truly knows anything, we only know what we see and are taught.

@@jaylapearson3256 It's this. It'a all related, every single thing. Let's start with this, christanity. Jesus was a central figure in bringing the enlighthment that people should try to be nicer to each other cause spiritually it is neccesary, when you die if you live your life in an incorrect and hellish manner that involves things like lying stealing cheating and all the things that are inherently bad thats present in all these religions. Dmt when you go off will remind you of those actions and it won't be fifteen min this time, it might feel like an eternity, depending on who you are as a person. In christanity it introduced that figure and then, there was this person. In the times of christ there was wine and adultry and those are things they took from jesus as holy tho it wasn't what jesus represented, jesus preached what every prophet preached, the common good of man. In Deuteronomy 18:17-19, Moses(as) prophesied: “And the Lord said unto me. They have well spoken that which they have spoken, I will raise them up a prophet from among their brethren like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.” when the prophet mohammed came he seperated the men and women then, he banned alochol as he seen that it made people stray away from their religion and commit acts of adultry, as well as provide a way to maintain cleanness of body, when muslims pray they cleanse their body with water before that. As they pray it affects the pinal gland, INMT which is thought to be the pivotal enzyme in the DMT production from the biogenic amine tryptamine, and therefore can indicate the sources of DMT. However, INMT methylates other substrates, and therefore its presence can only imply DMT production. Now lets keep going, in islam there is a term for the black spot present from said spot that produces dmt. The zebibah, Arabic for raisin, is a dark circle of callused skin, or in some cases a protruding bump, between the hairline and the eyebrows. It emerges on the spot where worshipers press their foreheads into the ground during daily prayers. It marks them as devout muslims in belief and mannerisms with people. That is also present in hinduism a completely alien culture to the muslims. People who are said to have the capacity to utilize their third eyes are sometimes known as seers. In Hinduism and Buddhism, the third eye is said to be located around the middle of the forehead, slightly above the junction of the eyebrows, representing the enlightenment one achieves through meditation.

@@TheMohammedAlmashaqbeh No, wrong. Let's not start with Christianity. Why are people so obsessed with continuing this delusion? Christianity is a massive fraud perpetrated by Rome in the fourth century, and had nearly nothing to do with the teachings of Ye'shua. The bible is historically invalid. That you believe this crap shows clearly that you have not studied the beginnings of your religion, the precedents, the history of the bible, the wider social and political issues of Roman Palestine, anything relevant. Islam is just as bad. DMT is one of the best methods of acquiring the awareness that transcends religion and renounces deluded beliefs.

Apparently, In all kingdoms, melatonin is produced from the aromatic amino acid tryptophan. In the mammalian system, biosynthesis then proceeds via hydroxylation to 5-hydroxytryptophan followed by decarboxylation to form serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine). it is in this way very closely related to other tryptamines such as Psilocybin and DMT.

Dr. Samuel, brain function & neuropharmacology are quite fascinating. Perhaps the hypothetical holographic nature of the brain is involved so that trace amounts of DMT (or any molecule) would have a profound subjective effect. I had just recently revisited reading "The Holographic Universe" by Michael Talbot. I highly recommend that book as the implications are rather profound and additionally, are pertinent to your work. I've been having spontaneous psychedelic experiences since I was a child, and they were very similar to what is described as a typical DMT trip, with whole spaces of fractal geometric patterns that are 3D and constantly moving, sometimes with the loss of sense of orientation (not knowing where's up or down and a rocking feeling). Most often happened right before the REM phase of sleep. Interestingly, I know multiple people with similar experiences, and to all of us these can still happen spontaneously. I always thought that it was dimethylotryptamine release in the pineal gland that caused it, now it seems I need to revise that theory. What else could it be?
@enlightenedhermes
@enlightenedhermes 11 ай бұрын
What you are describing sounds like "Alice in Wonderland Syndrome" in which it is common for people to experience at occasional points in life, especially during childhood and before sleep. The DMT experience is very different as it breaks down what makes you "you" and not just geometric visuals and such. It's a much more profound experience that cannot be fathomed into words.

having had hundreds of psychedelic experiences over 30 years: lsd: 500+ experiences mdma: 100+ psilocybin: 300+ dmt: 2 dozen i would rate DMT the most profound in it's effect on the psyche, with lsd a close 2nd. DMT is heavy. magic in the brain. sometimes it feels as if it tries to suck you back into the trip as it is ending. my 'breakthroughs' are just blinding white bliss. no elves, no waiting room, nothing. once, on shrooms, i used DMT - it enhanced the shrooms and put me into a breakthrough that was white light, but also imbued with geometric patterns. like i said, HEAVY. lsd is more like a wondrous dazzling, though still impactful.

So my ex was pretty skitzo and started having a lot of delusions. He also started to “meditate” super seriously, and often him meditating would trigger him to start seeing intense experiences and delusions. I started to do a little web surfing and I saw that skilled meditation, especially ones that focus on the pineal gland, they say they can trigger the pineal gland by focusing and in some rare cases can release dmt. I know it sounds like a long shot but I have a theory that it really Is connected. Maybe skitzo causes the pineal gland to be like hyper sensitive or something, or triggering the pineal gland can lead to skitzo, idk. He was also in his 30’s and had done a lot of a certain extra curriculars, so maybe too much of that caused some effects to his pineal gland which causes his delusions/skitzo episodes. He broke his brain or something, but I do feel some of these things are linked- it would make a lot of sense. If I were a doctor I would study correlations to these kind of phenomena.

Accepting life, I started with a B.Pharm. Just do a bit of recon and find a uni that has a neuropharm unit (preferably part of their School of Medicine or a pharmacy school that is more than 50y.o. - the type where you learn proper compounding and has a pharmacology, chemistry and biology - 3 prong focus). Then do the unit (beat all the med students), befriend the lecturer and ask if there are any volunteer positions available and go from there (at least that's what I did - I was running the tutes for the elective "Neuropharmacolgy 551/552" for final year B.Med/Surg students the following year. I would also recommend not coming at it as in interest in hallucinogenics, bro the fun is in learning new and beautiful cascades that ultimately dictate how the rest of the flesh bag works. Psychonautics is fun but narrow and limiting.

So scientists don’t know exactly why dmt is found in mammals and what really is the function of mammals?
@Neuropharmacist
@Neuropharmacist 2 жыл бұрын
The why can be speculated - that DMT is a tryptamine closely associated with many other biologically active molecules and pathways, and thus it may just exist as a side product of those machineries. The function of endogenous DMT is unknown as far as I know, suggesting it may not be relevant for any major function. But as I mention in the video, it could still have some physiological role waiting to be discovered.

DMT is not just endogenous in mammals, it is present in almost all lifeforms. I suspect you meant to ask 'what really is the function OF DMT in mammals'. The 'function of mammals' is a huge, vague, irrelevant issue.

I respect you opinion. I'm of the school of thought that we as homo-sapiens our physical bodies were created with a purposeful design consisting of biological and chemical processes based upon function. I do not subscribe to the lazy interpretations that lead to the thought of junk DNA nor do I believe certain ideas should be dismissed as insignificant because of a lack of knowledge and understanding. The pineal gland as tiny as it is contains photo receptors similar to our eyes as well as is made up of rhombohedron shaped Crystal's that oscillate at particular frequencies that determine specific functions

I experienced it 30 years ago when i was 21, and it happened upon entering the sleep-state, in a state called the hypnagogic state. It is believed to be an optimal state for problem solving/higher thinking and creativity, and can give/produce, some trippy psychedelic like experiences. Its a state that happen upon entering sleep, and when coming out of sleep, (the state when coming out of sleep is called the hypnapompic state). The brain waves activity measured in this state, is of equal high activity between Alpha and Theta. And it is usually also in relation to this state, that people will suddently wake up, with a solution, to a problem they have recently been pondering on. Usually illustrated by a person sitting upright in the bed, while saying: Heurica! i got it.

It seems like you didn't quote it but there was a 2019 article published on Nature (S. Rep.) on finding DMT in rat brain tissue which well stated the concentrations they found were comparable with serotonin levels and "under basal conditions, they are comparable to the extracellular levels of all known monoamine neurotransmitters measured by in vivo microdialysis in rat brain". The same paper also noted that rats which had the pineal gland removed still had DMT in their brains at similar concentrations. The same paper also noted "A significant increase of DMT levels in the rat visual cortex was observed following induction of experimental cardiac arrest, a finding independent of an intact pineal gland" It is a shame a paper which was already published 2 years before your video basically counters all your ideas and you could have had a much better video on the subject had you read the up to date literature on the subject you are trying to inform people on.

@@Neuropharmacist That critique is simply saying there are other possibilities besides DMT which is... obvious? With the lack of the criticizers own empirical data to counter anything, only conjecturing that a bunch of other factors may be more important, or solely responsible for the effects, the critique is simply stating obviousness that goes without saying. Neither do they recognize that despite the amount of other variables at play, the endogenous production of DMT may still be necessary but not sufficient regardless of comparable quantity?

During the Dr Strassman interview on Joe Rogan, Dr. Strassman said DMT amounts have only been measured in the blood, liver, and lungs. It has never been accurately measured in the actual brain or spinal fluid during its release. If this is indeed a factual statement, then to assume it's amount is so trivial and small, that there isn't any affect without other chemicals isn't accurate. Strassman says by the time it's being measured in the blood, liver and lungs, then the body has already metabolized and destroyed most of the DMT. Until we get an accurate measurement then I think you may need to rethink your position, or at least be open to endogenous DMTs effects on its own.

@@Neuropharmacist I'm not concerned with Rogan...Im specifically talking about Strassman and his quotes. I'm going to assume because of DMT being his life's work, he is studying the same papers you are reading and probably even more. I'm going to also assume he has access and connections to people currently studying DMT that you don't have. Therefore I'm going to assume Strassmans quotes to be accurate. @Khaymen223

@@Neuropharmacist I got that....And that is what I'd call a 'typical' way for a scientist to respond. However a more honest video would have stated or led to the conclusion - *We have no idea what role DMT plays because it has never been measured at its source, let alone what the source even is. You , and most scientists lead the viewer into the belief there most likely isn't any role because of the small amounts measured. That in my opinion (while you are currently correct there isn't any current evidence) is disingenuous at least and in a way misleading the viewer. You never said in your video, 'DMT has never been measured at its source, so we don't know.' I do thank you for taking the subject on however.......kudos.
@Neuropharmacist
@Neuropharmacist Жыл бұрын
@@Khaymen223 There's a good chance it is a side product of INMT, without any further source, release and storage mechanisms. Rodent studies certainly give some insight into the levels of endogenous DMT, and even during asphyxiation, the levels seem to be upregulated less than those of serotonin, which has a higher affinity for 5HT2A receptors than DMT.

Imagine if we increase our DMT levels naturally through prayer, fasting, and studying the Bible. If you saw the study where they put people in an MRI and studied their brains as they spoke, prayed, and prayed in tongues. The study showed the part of the brain responsible for the emotion ecstasy is the same place that lit up when they spoke in tongues . Increasing levels would be futile since we metabolize and destroy it so fast. I'm sure our bodies have a naturally evolved method of balancing and producing to immediate need. Any attempt at associating bible study with spiritual evolution or DMT results is absurdly futile. The bible is not a historically valid document, and none of the Abrahamic religions promote actual healthy spirituality. Christianity specifically is a massive fraud perpetrated by Rome, in the fourth century. It has nearly nothing to do with Ye'shua. DMT is one of the best methods of acquiring the awareness that transcends religion and renounces delusions like biblical relevance.

Of you paid attention when they taught physics DMT wouldnt be so confusing. The main thing it does is drastically raises your vibration. Different realities are on different wavelengths (just like radio) change your frequency=change yoir reality. Water, as it traverses the stages of matter (solid, liquid, gas) remains H²O the entire time. The difference is that it is vibrating faster. Ome or 2 hits of a cart and youll feel like youre swimming in fluid. When you blast off, when you are forced to ground, eyes closed, motionless and leavimg your body its because you are now in a gas state. Its why your consciousness has to leave your body. You are not your body. You are (energy) aka consciousness, only inhabiting this suite.
