Trevor Henderson, the creator of Sirenhead and various other viral horror characters, said this Killer was very him-core, and I have to agree. The twisted vague humanoid with exaggerated features, looking almost like a blurry photo come to life, the idea that you can barely catch a glimpse of it before it gets you, reminds me a lot of his art and the vibe they give off.

So you're saying this thing lives in walls and makes chocolate?

I sort of got the impression that The Unknown was a parasite, using a human corpse as a sort of suit. The tentacles are the The Unknown's actual body. The human looking part is just an unfortunate victim used as a host, i can only hope this guy is already dead and not having to live with The Unknown inside him. At least thats my theory or impression

The mechanic where looking at The Unknown causes your weakened state to go away feels like reverse Slenderman.

I legitimately love how they set up this killer, with all the teasers and videos. The whole bio-grenade launcher irked me for a while but realizing it was literally just taking parts from every bit of "backstory" that was patched together from it is fun as hell. One thing I did notice, 15:16 thats actually its lobby animation!

Now all we need is a mention of hyper realistic blood in game.

I have to say, both the Dredge and the Unknown are two of my favorite designed killers in the game (both in design and backstory) and I find it interesting how they are both seemingly share similar conceptions with the Dredge being created due to an entire town's fear and hysteria while the Unknown is an entity that seemingly goes after anyone who tries to understand and define what it is (quite literally thriving off of "the fear of the unknown").

Honestly the Unknown's design reminds me of something from the Spirit Hunter games, something so close but so far from human that it feels like a mockery of humanity itself. The closest I can compare it to is the Screaming Author from NG

There is an analog horror about a theme park where people become deformed when enter a roller coster and their deformed faces look a lot like the unknown. By the way I would love if you keep talking about dead by daylight, there Is not a lot of channels that talk about dbd lore or theories and would like the Lore of the game having more popularity. Dead by daylight has a really good Lore but youtubers usually only focus on the gameplay

The whole theory I have about the killer is the more you know about it and the more known it becomes the weaker is becomes. It’s whole ability revolves around it applying an effect to survivors that they can only remove by looking at it. It attacks things that try to learn about it.

Reminds me of both Nothing There and Censored from lobotomy corporation and also Faust from guilty gear strive. Mostly in terms of name and concepts with some of the mentioned theories to being something you can’t comprehend without being the next victim. And also in gameplay: Nothing There is meant to be one of the hardest abnormalities to contain (minus rabbit protocol), being so powerful it can just decimate your entire facility. It also has horrifying voicelines mimicking people it killed. I don’t think I need to explain why Faust is comparable considering he (in lore) can just teleport through doors, crawl really creepily to dodge things, and eats people and sends them to the backrooms for a second. Censored is censored to the player to prevent insanity and is known to brutally/instantly kill employees who are too weak minded to understand what the hell they’re looking at.

I also feel like Sable fits into this narrative, as much as I love her, her backstory and descriptions remind me of '2 edgy 4 u' teens and tweens during the boom of the Creepypasta era. Like, she's the black sheep of her family, extremely rebellious and blatantly does stuff that annoys her parents (her parents also give off the vibes of 'preps'- like what in the 'emo vs preps'?), an affinity for darkness and occult, and the overall 'only the darkness understands me' (well-except for Michaela) and 'not like other girls' thing. I would liken her slightly to the OCs made by people during that particular era, not to say she's a bad character, it's just her overall vibe I believe is an ode to the behaviour of alternative teens and tweens, as well as their OCs, during the late 2000s-early 2010s.

This reveal makes me hopeful we’ll see something like Slenderman soon since last year before the Alien was revealed and released, Behavior had their own original Sci-Fi killer, so maybe the killers are going to share a theme to keep the game fun? I’m probably just reading too much into this, but Slenderman is one of my three most wanted killers (the other two being Springtrap and The Predator)

So I have my own theory on what the Unknown could be. Considering the inspirations for the Killer are tied to Analog horror series, I imagine popular ones like Mandela or Greylock would play a part. And its tie-in story leads me to believe The Unknown is actually a thought-form, or a kind of Tulpa. The Entity is a being that feeds off of Fear and Hope right? It's not outside possibility that other entities may exist similar to it, but instead of dragging people to its domain the Unknown instead latches onto and becomes a manifestation of whatever person thinks it might be. Sort of like a Cognito-Hazard, it gets stronger the more people know of its existence.

i think what adds on to all of this is the recently revealed cosmetics for The Unknown, giving them 2 other appearences that are similar to its current design. One being of a elderly woman with a karen cut. so its possible the unknown also likes to take the appearence of victims, but of course in a very twisted, mangled manner.

I didn’t know a thing about this guy when dbd showed off his full design, so I decided to call him “the crooked man”. And I was kinda hoping DBD was gonna dip it’s does into stuff like creepy nursery rhymes and fairytales

Really fun video and nice change of pace from the sea of CC covering the same 3 analog horrors! As a “noobie” of DbD, getting the backstory of the killers is always something that’s interesting to learn about, adds more depth to an otherwise pretty surface level gameplay loop

Honestly, it also slightly reminds me of Winter of '83, which was a phenomenal horror short series but the mimicking and unfathomable nature give me the vibes

I really like how scary security cameras always have the big scary almost out of frame, because that is what can actually happen with ghosts and the like.

The coolest thing about the “not wanting to be seen” angle is that it almost works as a bit of meta commentary of creepypasta. It is generally agreed that Slenderman, The Rake, etc. all lost their “mystique” because of overexposure. They became less scary because people who nonetheless loved the monsters overexplained them and thus stripped them of their fear factor. And the Unknown is a monster that becomes less frightening the more of it you see.

In my opinion the entire concept of the unknown is horrifying, from the looks to the sounds just everything about it makes it one of the scariest dbd killers in my opinion, but if I’m being honest, the mori just doesn’t do it for me, I’m not sure why, but for some reason it’s just not scary to me.
