@@wolfietronic356 Scott’s more of a Sci Fi guy, he’s always been one, and he’s never portrayed remnant/agony in a fantasy-like manner. It’s soul magic, but it hasn’t been written like it, since William’s characterization has always been that of a crazed scientist; building killer robots, fear gas chambers, searching for immortality, and so on. In the new novels, remnant’s treated like a resource, an undiscovered science, a miracle substance rather than some fantasy magic system. So I’d say calling it a Sci Fi element qualifies, at least partially.

@@Unsightly7846 There are still elements of Remnants and souls that we don't fully understand, especially the fact that ghosts can still manifest even when the remnant is split and scattered. To me it reads more as "someone trying to explain the unexplainable." Treat remnant like scientists treat black holes or dark matter (which we do have several scientific explanations for several aspects of dark matter and black holes, but we don't understand everything about them.)

I've always seen it like this. Remnant is from the actual spirit inhabiting whatever it is possessing. Agony is the intense emotional strain of the spirit which extends to other objects. Not possessed by the original host, but rather the pain and suffering felt within their trapped animatronic bodies.

The thing is... Remnant IS Agony. Or... kind of. The explaination of Remnant we are given describes it as "The intangible fused with the intangible, of memory with the present". That is, even if vague, a very useful explaination. Notice how Talbert doesn't describe Remnant as a ghost metal liquid. Nor he says that ONLY metal is Remnant. He explains that metal is, strangely, a better conductor of the emotional energy, and maybe that it seems easier to MANIPULATE Remnant with. But he never states, nor reduces Remnant to "haunted metal", it's just an example. But, what is Remnant then? Exactly what he says: memory. Remnant is memory. It's not just "haunted metal", it's the memory of someone who's gone, that lingers past their disease, and can still be seen in the present, almost like if they never died. But, isn't that the definition of a ghost? Isn't that the definition of an Agony-infected object? That's because it is! Agony, just as any other emotion, is a feeling that creates an energy that exudes from living beings. Isn't that also what we see in FNAF AR? An ethereal energy that echoes the past and loads with the suffering of all the people the the animatronics belong to? Remnant is the result of mixing the intangible (Any kind of emotion, memory, or ghost, that cannot be touched or easily preceived), with the tangible (An object, e.g., a robot). Isn't a ghost the memory of someone who's dead, that can be perceived after their death? Isn't an agony the memory of somebody's suffering, that can latch onto something, and be perceived again? Aren't then the Ella Doll (Novel Trilogy), or the Plushtrap Chaser, Remnant too? Aren't the Retro-Arcade minigames also the mixing of memory with machinery, and repetition of such event? I keep seeing people not only reducing Remnant to "haunted melted metal", when Remnant is much broader than that, but also seeing people say that "rEmNanT iS sCi-Fi", when it's actually a very standard ghost-story element (It's just any haunted object). But i do get why people say it is Sci-Fi, because FNAF takes the concept of the Remnants of a person, and uses it in a scientifical way. Actually, if i found a hounted object, i would definitely try to make it split! Why not? It's a very interesting thing to see! The video is pretty great! Really! I just wanted to say that... it is all Remnant. Agony, or any feeling in general, is necessary for possession. But i agree with the video still! I saw Rye's video too, but I don't remember much... I probably also commented something like this...

@@scootinkermie Yeah, sort of. Agony is the emotional energy that forms Remnant. Where they do differ is what emotions take over the infected object. Agony makes Dark Remnant, made by negative memories/emotions, while the usually seen white or Bright Remnant seen in FNAF AR is the one with positive memories. Remnant is more of an umbrella term for Bright Remnant, Dark Remnant, and all the types od Remnant that can exist thanks to the wide range of human emotions.

Honestly really nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks the Toys are simply powered by the same remnant as the Withereds. With how remnant is established to work, it would only make sense if the Toys were powered by the MCI remnant as well, since they used the metal from the Withereds (which contained remnant) to create the Toys W video indeed

Someone, please, tell me I'm not the only one who LOVES this stuff. I love the different ghost magics. The difference between remnant being direct soul energy, and agony being the manifested suffering of the spirits, and how it can linger even after the actual spirits are long gone (what I believe is going on with the blob) I LOVE IT. It's really really cool!!! Please? Someone please agree with me for once in my life I'm gonna turn into dust and blow away in the wind

I think souls, memories and emotions (agony) are all just different forms of remnant itself. Thus, I also don’t think the combination of metal and one of these three things is considered remmant, but that the ”substance” within the metal itself is the remnant. ”A mix of the tangible and the intangible”; emotions/memories/souls can only be called remnant if they stay or *remain* intact in our world. This is usually through a material or object, and metal seems to be the best ”conductor” for remnant. This is why it can be simplified to ”haunted metal”. But as I just explained, it’s more than just that. So basically, under this, remnant can be defined simply as ”any part or imprint of a person’s essence that remains in the physical world even after their death”, but this is just what I think. Though I’m pretty confident in this.

What ya said makes too much sense and I want to agree, but isn't what you quoted the defining trait of remnant? With souls/memories/emotions being the intangible part of remnant? Also, I think "conductor" could be replaced with "medium."

@@absolutechadd8895I’m not completely sure what the exact quote was, but I remember it was ”A [something] of the tangible with the intangible”, so I just guessed ”mix”. Though that isn’t technically correct, since it actually isn’t the combination of souls/memories/emotions with a tangible material that are called remnant, but the souls/memories/emotions themselves, which is due to them being held in the physical world due to the tangible conductor/medium, if that makes sense.

Personally, I would prefer if they leaned further on the concept of Agony instead of Remnant. Metal soul juice is just kinda goofy compared to the more supernatural and honestly metal concept of a deceased person's agony being so strong it causes objects to seem haunted.

What I think for each game: Fnaf 1: Remnant for everyone (including golden Freddy). Fnaf 2: All the withereds: remnant. Shadows: Agony because of AR and,”Hide N seek.” However, I’m leaning more on the fact that the toys aren’t possessed but, if they are then remnant. Fnaf 3: SpringTrap is still alive because of Andrew. (Proven by the heart beat in the salvage section and ‘Man in room 1280.” Phantoms are just hallucinations. Fnaf 4: they’re not possessed by anything. (Except Nightmare because, he is shadow Freddy) Fnaf SL: Baby is obviously remnant. I’m pretty torn on if the Funtimes are possessed or not honestly. If so, maybe Agony? Although, I do feel like Yendo is golden Freddy but, I haven’t researched that theory (yet) FFPS: Scrap baby, Molten Freddy and Lefty are all possessed by remnant. Like I said earlier, Afton is still alive by Andrew proven by the heartbeat in the salvage. HW: never played HW so, this will be harder for me to answer. Well, since I’m considering to believe Mimictrap I’ll say agony. (Though, I could be wrong) SB: I doubt that they’re possessed

Agony creatures or ones given the power by agony are Fredbear plush/Shadow Freddy/ nightmare: it is possible he and Eleanor could be the same Shadow Bonnie Nightmarionne Eleanor XOR : could be Eleanor Pittrap Mimic: kinda of give him sentence Springtrap and scraptrap: shown to alive likely thanks to Andrew. His agony and memories are what make the phantoms.

I thought that the phantoms were made by the gas that people think cause the nightmares. As for the nightmares, I think that they’re the Funtime animatronics, so I think they’d be remnant.

@@FunAngelo2005 The Twisteds aren't really a counterpart to any one animatronic. They have springlocks, cause sensory illusions, and are programmed specifically to capture and/or kill any requested target. That's Springlocks, Nightmares, and Funtimes all wrapped up into a single animatronic type, not really a stand in for any specific one.

I see the toys as a combination of "Something borrowed" and there lackluster programming, there's something in there guiding the machines, not quite as alive as the withered animatronics, as they always come off alot more, well, robotic and stiff, as if they aren't fully "alive" (by dead child standards anyway) as much as something nudging these machines towards a goal

Basically if there's a body in/connected then its remnant and if not then it's agony. If something is directly in contact to a dead person like the Puppet then it is both. The Funtimes had to of been made from animatronic parts as Remnant is melted possessed metal regardless of Molten MCI is true or not.

And we know you dont have to die to spread agnoy... couldnt the smaller baby relative animatronics be agnoy based? - mimic/baby is made - agony insues - other items like paper animatronics and ballon boy are in the room when henry gets all mad. @@scrungles7853 The way a ghost possesses an animatronic shouldn't really be that all interesting and complicated, If anything, what the ghost does inside the animatronics is more interesting. (ie; FNAF 1) So if interesting means making it more complicated than it needs to be and locking out newer fans knowing why the thing that makes robots move is important, then cut me some slack for saying some elements need to be tone down and "boring" to make sure the story doesn't transform into a pile of mess for me.
