This video provides a tutorial on The Molecular Structure of DNA. DNA is a nucleic acid which is made up repeating units of nucleotides. DNA nucleotides are arranged like a ladder-the sides of the ladder are composed of alternating sugar molecules and phosphate groups, and the rungs of the ladder are composed of complementary nitrogenous base pairs. The two strands of the ladder are twisted around the common axis to form a double helix structure.
The following topics are covered in this lesson,
1. Basic parts of nucleotides
2. Introduction to nucleosides and nucleotides
3. Types of nitrogenous bases (Purines and Pyrimidines)
4. How are nucleotides arranged to form a DNA ladder
5. How are nucleotides connected to each other (phosphodiester linkage)
6. How are nitrogenous connected (hydrogen bonds)
7. Complementary base pairs (Adenine=Thymine and Cytosine=Guanine)
8. How DNA strands run antiparallel
