First of all your sister is the sweetest 😍❤ she just seems like such a good sister and student! Is it weird that I want to go back to highschool and be homeschooled in highschool now?! Seriously this looks so great! I've never seen a highschool video before and even though I don't have kids near highschool age ... I enjoyed this so much Rachel! I think this is really needed. I love hearing your sister talk! I vote for a day in the life of a highschooler ... so we can see how your sister day goes. You are an awesome sister, mother and teacher! Your family is blessed to have you ❤

Yes! The great thing about homeschool is that you can adapt from one kid to another...some need more direction from mom than others who are very self-directed.

I use Canva for thumbnails but I think I'll steer her in a different direction for a slideshow. haha! She's never been the biggest fan of computers so I think this project will be a good stretch!

This was so interesting to see how things go in the high school levels! Such a wonderful collab! We used level 3 this past year with my daughter and they do sentence diagramming in that level as well! I love how The Good and the Beautiful layers the learning, building on concepts in every level. :)

She's your twin. I'm also extremely competitive with myself like your daughter. Timers and goals help motivate me. I'll often to to gameify things I find challenging. Really informative video!

Awe!!! It’s so sweet to another meet another member of your family!! ❤️ I have a questions. I asked Colleen also 😜 but what do you think about the writing in terms of it teaching the structure of a paper, what to include in a paper in terms of grammar and style. I bought this for my high schooler for next year but it’s hard to tell how the writing is without looking at every single page. 😜 We’ve done IEW and Lost Tools of Writing before. So I figure I should have those checklists ready for him to check his paper. Those who are not necessarily GIFTED at writing....needs those checklists. 😉.

My impression thus far is that I'm not seeing much or any detailed instruction as far as structured essays, how to structure arguments, etc. But, we're only just starting the 2nd unit, so it's very early days. However...for us I'm not really worried about that because we switched from "Writing with Skill" to this mainly because Writing with Skill is all about detailed structural writing instruction...and she was SO bored with it because she knows it, she 'gets it', she can write a solidly structured and well-argued paper. So...that's my impression so far. I will have more thorough thoughts later on.

I know you asked the video creator but I currently use level 1 with my oldest and we pair it with IEW Student Structure and Style level C. The booklets has good literary analysis writing prompts but not structural writing lessons and I felt my daughter still needed that. We're also throwing in some of IEW High School Writing Intensive as well for our ACT prep.

Awesome... We will do HS1 after Level 7. We love the art part since it is also incorporated in their handwriting. We time for around 1 hour for LA. We use flash cards for the vocabulary words and/or quizlet.

She came up with the timer on her own, I thought that was a great approach with how the High School Level 1 is set up! Honestly I think she could do 30 min. a day and that would be plenty...she's always a bit ambitious. :)

We’ve been questioning if we would carry on with TGTB with high school language arts and I’m now thinking we will. My kids aren’t good at American geography either but we’ve never lived there. It’s awesome that it could be done in 30 mins a day!!! My kids have learnt to love learning thru homeschool

I love the giveaway. I do have a question: The literature The Good and The Beautiful have students memorize, how valuable are these selections...are they words a student will use for a lifetime to make decisions, bring context to situations they find themselves in, words of wisdom or comfort, etc? Does the high school level introduce classic literature as Shakespeare, Iliad, etc?

Thanks for asking! We're using TGATB for her LA, and aren't really considering it as her high school "Literature" so much, although the year does incorporate books to read and respond to in writing. I would say that they DON'T really cover any of the great classics, no Iliad, if there is any Shakespeare, it's very little. The memory work includes poetry, but not any portions of longer texts. We use Sonlight for her literature program.
