The photo at 1:33 shows attic fan with ridge vent. You can't have both as the fan will take air from the closest place which is the ridge vent and so you are not doing anything for most of the attic.

Attic fans don't solve the problem but they can help. If you can properly vent your attic the fan will never turn on. I was able to do this with my attic but I can see if you have a finished second story that isn't easily able to vent properly. The goal is to keep the attic temperature within 20°F or less of the outside or ambient temperature, the closer the better. I was able to achieve this without a fan and I'm glad. If you aren't then you might need a fan. good luck

What state do you live in? In California, attics get as hot as 160°F. There is no natural ventilation that's going to work when the temperature is 110° outside. An attic fan is the way to go if your attic gets extremely hot like here in California or Arizona. My attic fan stops my air conditioner from running off and on all night long. And it doesn't have to be solar. But solar is Nice.

@@johnharrisonschulz yup natural ventilation will never be sufficient to cool an attic in warmer areas

I just got a broken attic fan repaired recently. I can already feel the difference on the top floor which isn't as hot anymore as it was with a non working attic fan

It would be appreciated if you would indicate metric measurements as subtitles. Here in Europe no roof get 150 degrees hot! :-)

In South Florida these things don’t work. All they do is suck up your indoor AC cold air, and they present a windstorm hazard during hurricanes which will rip them right off the roof.

South Louisiana here, if your fan is sucking up cold air you have a installation problem. Does your house have soffit vents ? There's no reason for the fan to be pulling air from inside.

@@900stx7 - Yes, plenty of soffit vents and all are clear and breathing. The problem was solved by removing the electric fans and going with passive ventilation. No more sucking up cold air from inside the house since passive ventilation just works naturally as hot air rises without the need of mechanical assistance.

@@Blublodthat don’t always work good, sometimes you got to have the fans. It depends on the house and insulation and how good they built the house. You have a shitty built house if your sucking all your cold air from in the house out the attic fan, your problem is not the fan it’s something else between the celing and roof

sounds like your house might be leaking air through either light fixtures, attic doors, grill boxes, possibly airducts.

Get a bathroom fan with a built-in backdraft door/damper. Those are good to have, regardless of attic fan, to prevent cool/warm air from venting into your attic all summer/winter.

@@quoolvic1892if u have a ceiling mounted bathroom fan it needs to have the flap to prevent this issue. If your bathroom fan is vented straight outside, then that would be no problem.
