He can only divide up (with consent from the city council) the budget allocated to him/her into civil projects. The real power relies in the unions (police, firefighter, healthcare, etc) If they want raises that will come before any other money is released to city projects, social programs that could help fight crime. Illinois finally in 2020 released $120 million dollars after passing a bill that makes gun violence a health crisis (too little too late) In my opinion though, Illinois is just as corrupt as Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana where they steal all of the federal money, let a little trickle down to the cities, then pass bills that counteract activists movements that could make a huge difference in the urban areas (why no federal aid or massive media support was never given to the 2021 "Dads against crime" D.A.C movement in urban areas is crazy!( i bet you never heard of it) And shows how governments (red and blue) don't want to solve the youth gangs/guns violence!

A lot of the illegals coming here have no intention of becoming American citizens. They also have no intention of learning English,I know this living in S. FL. There are parts I can't go to as I don't and will not speak Spanish or Creole(Haitian). With the Cuban's I have been told that I am in Florida and SHOULD speak Spanish. I grew up traveling America working in the fruit across America and back. The first wave was in the 70s when the illegals came and cut our pay we couldn't afford to travel and pick fruit anymore. When ya go from 1.00 to 1.25 a box of cherries to .25 cents a box you starve. They came in buses 60 to 80 living in a bus. The farmers chose cheaper pay. We were considered white trash for the work we did, they called us lazy whites to get the illegals working for nothing. By the time I was 13 I could pick $100 a day in cherries alone we worked honest and hard. Now the farmers are paying out the nose and dealing with cartel bidding wars from orchard to orchard.....the illegals were embraced and we were white trash..... Just a little factual history getting ready to repeat itself.

It's not even a good system for the immigrants. We "let" them into our country, and we force them to live in constant fear of deportation, so that we can use them for cheap labor that gets no medical benefits, no job security, no protection from unsafe working conditions... and then we practically break our own arm patting ourselves on the back for being such good human beings for allowing this system to keep going. We can't even begin the conversation of who and how many we should let immigrate here, or the humanity behind it, until we secure the border. Build the wall and secure the border are not exclusionary ideas, they are the first step to creating a system that actually is fair and humane. But this discussion never gets past the liberals calling the conservatives racists for not seeing things the same short-sighted way that they do, so the system keeps going and the rich people making money off this broken system laugh all the way to the bank.

I am not nor have ever been bound to a party. I do believe in a political philosophy, however, and it is called conservatism. There are absolutely NO conservative Democrats in modern politics. Today most people believe Republicans and conservatives are one in the same. That is not true there are many establishment Republicans who may try to claim they are conservatives but they are two faced and fall far short of the values and principles that characterize a conservative. Jim Jordan is a good example of a true conservative.

IMO stay Independent is the worst u can do. I can't remember the magazine, but I remember reading an article nearly 20 years ago about several hospitals, located in TX, near the Mexico border, going bankrupt and closing because of people coming across the border for care and the hospital had no way to collect fees from them. They couldn't refuse to treat them, and they couldn't pay staff with no money coming in. The article focused mainly on the US citizens who were affected by the hospital closures, loss of nearby care and the loss of jobs. That article cemented my attitude about immigration. Check other countries policies on treating foreigners and note the difference. In most, you pay up front or they don't treat you.
