A few things. First, I need to refrain from reading the comments here. I just listened to this video and I could feel the genuineness in which you spoke. It was good for me. I don't knks yet what is true, but I do think you inform with kindness and a hope of salvation for all of us. Then I read the comments of others and the name calling and insults kinda just ruined the moment. Secondly, I liked your video. Thank you. A lot of good information to ponder and pray over. The New Testament teachings of faith, works, grace, law, etc are commonly debated and researched. This is very complex stuff and the future of my soul is dependent on me choosing wisely.

Thanks so much for watching, Mike, and for your kind words! You're right that unpacking all this theological stuff can get complex. At the same time, I think our role in it all is often simpler than we think (Matt 11:28-30). As you continue your journey, I would encourage you to lean into God and ask Him for wisdom and discernment. And remember that our salvation comes simply through faith in Jesus, not through our own doing or work. "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." (Eph 2:8-9). Blessings!

Brother Solberg, I realize that this video is about 2 yrs. old and you many not get my question, so I may post the same question in a more recent video in order to get you to respond to it. My question is; In Torah Law is the 10 commandments apart of the 613 commands? If so and I believe they are, how do you parcel out the 4th commandment from the 10 written on stone laws + the 603 additional commands in the Torah?
@TheBiblicalRoots
@TheBiblicalRoots Жыл бұрын
Hi Emmanuel. Yes, the 10 Commandments are the first of the 613 commands. (And FYI, the number 613 is just sort of the traditionally accepted number. The mitzvot have been counted differently at different times.) When you say "parcel out" the 4th commandment, are you wondering why we keep the other 9, but not that one? If so, my first response would be that I believe in spirit or principle, we still ought to keep all 10. But not as they were specifically expressed under the Mosaic law. For example, the Sabbath command came with the death penalty! And the command about honoring our parents comes with the promise that we will "live long in the land that the Lord is giving you." So we cannot live them out as expressed in the Mosaic law. But the principles behind them all are most certainly still valid. For example, we should still honor our parents. And we should still find time to rest and spend time with God, though it's not constricted to any particular day of the week. P.S. It's interesting to note that the Sabbath command is the only one of the 10 Commandments that was not repeated or taught or endorsed in the New Testament. The other nine were. Blessings, Rob

Ive heard all of the guys from 119 say that Jesus is the Word and since the Bible is also the word of God then the word is Torah is Jesus basically. I've heard many other Torah teachers say the same. Jesus is the Word, and the word of God given to us in Scripture is from Him and so it should be taken very seriously, but the Bible itself is out together by men and translators and so therefore cannot be conflated with Jesus.

@@TheBiblicalRoots so Jews are required to keep the law for salvation? Why would Jesus make them do something to be saved, but then give us the freedom to live how we want as long as we love Him and neighbor according to our own arbitrary standards loosely based on His teachings? Or maybe God's standard has always been that we are saved by grace through faith, (I mean, just read the prophets...) And that all we needed was a Messiah to pay our penalty because nobody can be holy apart from being washed in God's blood because He is Holy.

Hey Rob! Thanks again for diving so deep into Scripture to explain how you interpret things. However I have to disagree with your theory that there is a 40-year changeover period in which both systems are running in parallel. This is just a theory - there is absolutely no Scripture in the New testament or is it alluded to in the Old testament, about a change over period. Nowhere in Paul's or the Apostle Peter or the Apostle John's letters do they say anything about two systems running in parallel. I do realize that in the book of Hebrews they talk about one system waxing old. But you still have to extrapolate from that that there is some 40-year period of change over.

Matthew 7:21-23 New King James Version 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ - So, lawlessness means those who are not practicing the LAW, doesn't it? Isn't Jesus saying here, that we will be judged (In the last day or judgement day) for NOT keeping the LAW? Or how am I to understand this? Any help is appreciated. Ty
@TheBiblicalRoots
@TheBiblicalRoots Жыл бұрын
Hi, Logan! In my opinion, the key to this passage is found at the end of verse 21. "he who does the will of My Father in heaven." Who does Jesus accuse of practicing "lawlessness"? Those who don't do the will of the Father. And what is the will of the father under the New Covenant? Jesus says all the law and the prophets are summed up in two commands: love God and love people (Matt 22:36-40). This is the will of the Father (See Rom 13:8-10). And the reason Jesus tells those workers of "lawlessness" that He never knew them was that, while they did all of those things in His name, they did so without love. They honored Him with their lips but their hearts were far from him (Matt 15:8). Also, not every use of the word "lawlessness" (ἀνομία) in the NT is a reference to the Law of Moses. In fact most times, like here in Matt 7:23, it's referring to disobedience and rebellion in a general sense; those who refuse to bow to the will of God and are a law onto themselves. And I think the point Jesus is making in Matthew 7:21-23 is not that we should make sure we are keeping the law. In fact, it's easy to know if you are keeping the Law of Moses because you're not eating pork or working on Saturday and so on. And yet the people to whom Jesus will say "I never knew you" are surprised! They _thought_ they had it right. "Didn't we do all these things in Your name?" And the point Jesus is making here is that we need to be careful of our heart commitments; our inner motivations. If we go through the motions and try to honor Him with our lips or our works and we "have not love" (1 Cor 13), our hearts are far from Him and we are in for a big surprise. Blessings, Rob

Even within Israel, God did not require the same dietary restrictions for native Israelites as he did for the Gentiles who lived among them. Hey, Craig! I don't think anyone would claim that we are required to _literally_ follow everything that Jesus did. He was tradesman who worked with his hands, an itinerant preacher who walked from town to town (in sandals no less!), often slept outdoors, taught in synagogues, didn’t own any land, and was executed by the government. Are we to emulate all these things? Of course not. So the question is, where do we draw the line in terms of walking like Jesus walked? THE CONTEXT of Jeremiah 31 is speaking to The exiled nation at the time he lived. Giving them hope that if they return to God they will be redeemed. And guess what? There was no requirement of blood or sacrifice to be redeemed back into a new covenant with the same laws. Was Jeremiah a fortune teller for future generations 6-700 years later, or was he a prophet given to wicked Israel as the Torah prescribes?

It seems like the Hebrews Roots folks constantly conflate (or refuse to recognize) that the term 'law' has many meanings and contexts. (The moral law we all recognize/discover to varying degrees and however imperfectly; dietary laws and clothing and rituals - these are NOT moral for the simple fact that NOBODY can know about them without being told.) _Does that distinction not make sense?_ Besides, all Jews were under the "law" until AFTER the resurrection, right? And besides that we don't live in a theocracy with a state religion any longer. (Wasn't that part of the point of the 'laws', keeping Israelite's separate from the neighboring nations and to serve as reminders?) Also, was the Ethiopian commanded to take the law back to his home country? And don't the Hebrew Roots followers also disavow most of the OT laws? I have such a hard time following those who espouse Hebrew Roots theology/ideology. They gripe about "denominations" so split from one group and start another that is already splintering into numerous others. Oy vey!!

Some observations, if I may. "Until all is fulfilled"... " "...about 40% of the Law of Moses was literally no longer able to be kept because the temple was destroyed..." Not sure in total what percentage you would estimate has been "fulfilled", but doesn't that suggest that whatever portion has not yet been fulfilled is still "standing"? Certainly we are not "under" the law (for salvation), but Yeshua clearly states that if we love Him we will keep His commandments. So it seems important to identify which commandments/which part of "the law" are still "for us" today. The brit hadasha is still a "wedding betrothal"/covenant agreement to Him. If we love Him, we will "keep our vows" (remain faithful, keep His commandments). In the sermon on the Mt. Jesus begins to reveal the "spirit of the law" over the "letter of the law" and says to His disciples that "unless your righteousness exceeds that of the pharisees..." It is THE LAW (our wedding vows) that is written on our hearts as we say "I do" (so to speak). "The law of Moses" can be an all encompassing phrase to refer to the entirety of all the laws, ordinance, statues (the "613"), but it also is used to refer to the Pentateuch as a whole ("the law and the prophets"), or the law given to Moshe on Sinai, the "Ten Commandments." Also worth considering that just before the promise to send "Elijah before the great and terrible day of YHVH" are the words: "Remember the law of Moses My servant..." and is followed by "he will turn the hearts of the childen (us, present day "believers") to the Fathers (of our Faith)... Perhaps the Spirit of God started this "drawing back to the Hebrew roots of our Faith" in anticipation of the fulfillment of this prophecy. The Adversary would certainly seek to derail such a movement (which he has been effectively doing), but that does not negate what God is doing in this Hour. Things for your consideration. shalom

This is some very good food for thought, Suzan. Thank you for your comments! One point I'd like to clarify: When I said 40% of the Law is no longer able to be kept, I was referring to the portion of the 613 mitzvot that deal with priests, sacrifices, and other duties that cannot be accomplished without a Temple. I wasn't suggesting that there is some portion of the Law that has not yet been fulfilled. According to Scripture, it was 100% fulfilled by Yeshua. I also think it's notable that in John 14:15, Yeshua says, "If you love me, you will keep my commandments." He does not say "If you love me, you will keep THE commandments," (which is how He often refers to the Law) or "If you love me, you will keep the Law " or "...the Torah." That's not something that can be taken lightly. He also does not tell people to "Follow the Torah" or "Follow the Law." He says, "Follow me." And after his ascension, we don't see the Apostles teaching that the Law must be kept either. In fact, when they got together in Jerusalem in AD 50 to discuss this exact question, they did not make keeping the Law a requirement. (Acts 15:1-29). (See my video on their decision here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jdCZgrd_lZvDhYk.html) Shalom! Rob

@@TheBiblicalRoots Thank you for your time, consideration and reply. I understood what you were saying when you mentioned the 40%, but I think there is misunderstanding on what is "fulfilled." When Yeshua said He came to "fulfill" the Law, He was stating that He came to completely obey it/"keep" it in FULL, thus "fulfilling all righteousness" and thus qualifying as the spotless Lamb. What He was NOT saying was that none of what was given as instruction (torah) was obsolete, for He also stated that He did NOT come to "abolish" the law (but to keep it as stated). He requalified, if you will, what it meant to "keep torah" starting with the "beatitutdes" (as described in my first comment). He showed us that in keeping torah, we were do do so along the lines--not of the "letter of the law," but of the "spirit of the law" (i.e. hating a brother is the same as murder; looking at a woman in lust is the same as committing adultery etc.). He did not "do away with the comandment" (the ten), He expanded/expounded its true meaning/application. As you have pointed out, Yeshua said "follow me"; and as you have also pointed out, many in the "Hebrew roots mvmt" use this to affirm that all 613 must be "kept" (which is impossible and, of course, negates all that Christ accomplished for us)... but Jesus DID "obey"/keep the commandments as a basis of fulfilling "the law"--this is why I stated that it is important to distinguish which commandments/which "law" is being referred to/how the phrase is being used. 613 were given to expound how to apply/"keep" the ten; the ten to expound how to apply/"keep" the 2 (Love God; love the People of God). Many of the 613 are "done away with" in Christ, yes, but much of the torah (instruction) in the Brit Hadasha are mitzvot on how to apply the 2/the 10 in the NC (NT) context. Paul gives us many "instructions" in this area. The ten are the ketubah (if you will). Our Covenant is still based on "love God, love the Brethren" (as members one of another in the Body of Yeshua), and "the 10" etched on stone are now "written on our hearts." (btw, the link went to an error message, but if it was to one of the videos on your channel, I watched them all before first contacting you.) I appreciate very much the work you are doing (might want to lower the volume on the electric guitar interludes just a tad, but a "fun" presentation format), and the HRM has gone off the tracks into "judaizing", but what I hope many will consider is the WHY of this "movement" in the first place --given what I shared in my first comment here, I think it invaluable that we recognize this was INITIATED by His Spirit for an express purpose, and although pointing out the errors is quite "valid", seeking to understand God's purpose in it might help us REDIRECT it more than "counter" it (lest we find ourselves striving agaisnt God). When "Elijah" comes, who is most likely to listen? food for thought, indeed. Shabbat shalom!

Jesus NEVER did away the 10 commandments and even himself said that anyone who teaches men to break them will be called "the least" how much more clearer than that does God need to be? No I am not part of Hebrew roots, I am part of God's people. Nothing in scripture at all points that the Law is done away with, Paul even says that we need TO ESTABLISH IT and use it lawfully. Anyone who tells you otherwise is using scripture gymnastics to make some point that does not exist OR they themselves are confused and teaching lies which is still wrong. There is a channel called "Unlearn The Lies" I encourage everyone watching this to go to his Channel. He confirmed a lot for me and hs great teachings BASED on scripture Do not be led away by someone who is sincere, because they can also be sincerely wrong.

@@TheBiblicalRoots Hey Rob, thanks for the reply. God be with you and increase His understanding in you. I am confused, you posted a video on a topic which is outside of the topic of this video, I do not believe you are trying to purposefully discredit the link I attached by posting you response to the same mans video and pointing out flaws. But I do believe it does not answer the question of the 10 commandments and the Law. I have recently learned the difference between Eisegesis and Exegesis, and have found that when anyone comes up with the conclusion that we as Christians are somehow ok if we do not keep the law, all stem from reading the scriptures from an eisegesis point of view. I used to believe the same way until God led me to His Word and rightly divided His truth. There is no where, not one place in any part of scripture that says we are not to keep the law. As a matter of fact there are more scriptures that show we are to do all that we can to keep it, and by the power of the Holy Ghost and Jesus Christ he will empower us and help us do it! Praise God, and again God is with you so I pray he will lead you to His Word and Understanding in all sincerity and Truth.

Sir, I was a christian evangelist on a project to translate the bible into Portugues so enrolled on biblical hebrew to be able to do an accurate work in the process of my learning found out the verses in my bibles are mistranslated ie. ELOHIM was translated "God" but should read "powers"; TORAH was translated "LAW" should read "INSTRUCTIONS" so the "mighty god, prince of peace, great counselor" is refering to king hezekiah. yeah, will be hard to acknowledge that we have been deceived but I choose to repent and convert to judaism

Why not apply context to the Talmud? Why not Read the whole chapter or book? Why not point out that this was not the only miraculous sign that began to fail after Shimon Hazadik died. Why not explain how according to the legend these signs started before Jesus shed one drop of blood? Why do Christians feel the need to use the Talmud to prove Jesus? Ever consider that maybe the thread stopped turning white because so many Jews were spiritually declining by embracing false religions like Christianity? Maybe it could have been the massive infighting going on that caused the Sanhedrin to stop ruling on capital crimes which was God’s Law? How about teaching the context of messiah, heaven, hell, salvation, eternity ? Do you point out that God himself is silent about these issues? Are these then the doctrines and traditions of men?

Yeshua could keep all the Law he wasn’t a woman or owned land that we know, he fulfilled his part he offered “ Korban”(sacrifices) and give the perfect example how to keep it. Of course Christianity doesn’t have to keep anything in that system even Kanye West could be a Messiah

Unconditional love is a good theme to music but unfortunately God's love is not unconditional. " Obey me and I will be your God" thus sayeth the Lord. This is just all about making money from flattery and I hope this guy isn't making money from Levitical tithes.

So basically you're trying to say as a Jewish saint I'm to get rid of my culture stop 1)circumcising my sons and become a gentile. 2) deny being Jewish 3) no longer keep shabbat, or purim or hannukah instead I must do Christmas and Easter right? 4) stop keeping kosher and eat dogs and pigs and snakes and seafood? 5) worship on Sunday. OK, I see....

Hi Cyril. I believe the NT teaches that the Mosaic traditions are permitted but not required for all Christians. If you want to keep those things, go for it! Provided, of course, you acknowledge that they are not a means of salvation and do not add anything to what Christ has already done on your behalf. Blessings, Rob

@@cyrilsneer5957 you are saved by grace through faith in Messiah but please do not be deceived that God would do away with His own standards!! God's Law given to His people is a law that leads to our sanctification and points us towards heavenly things. Don't abandon God's instructions no matter what any "teacher" says. Any man who teaches a different gospel than what is in the Bible must be corrected. Any man who teaches that the least of the letters of the law have passed before heaven and earth do, is sadly deceived, and is deceiving others.

Have you looked into who is Azazel??..... Azazel, in Jewish legends, a demon or evil spirit to whom, in the ancient rite of Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement), a scapegoat was sent bearing the sins of the Jewish people. Two male goats were chosen for the ritual, one designated by lots “for the Lord,” the other “for Azazel...this is creepy

Yeah, that's one of those passages in Scripture (Lev 16) that really reinforces the supernatural aspect of the Bible. Dr. Michael Heiser offers a great examination of Azazel. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iNN5id1m0NXIo3U.html
