3am or 6am it doesn’t matter man. Here’s some advice, go hunting when you can but when you go hunting you need to feel the wind and you need to really understand how your presence in the woods is heard. I’ll walk up on bedded bucks or doe because I have mastered woodsman-ship. Don’t look at it as a waiting game. Look at it from an outside perspective. Put yourself in the Birds Eye view. Best advice I can give you.

Doesn’t always matter. If your in the stand at 3am and the wind isn’t in your favor until 5am welp you just fucked yourself. People think there is one answer for everything it makes it easy to tell who has no idea what the fuck they are talking about🤣🤣 everything in the woods is situational EVERYTHING

I know someone that killed a buck of a lifetime that was patterning him. He noticed every time he came in to hunt the deer would not return for 3 days. He hunted out of a box so he packed enough stuff for 3 days. He went in and waited 3 days. Sure enough he killed it after waiting him out.

Doesn't sound like it was patterning him, or it would have known he'd be gone and the next day was already safe. No need to wait 3 days.

The biggest buck I have shot (172”) I shot the first day of rifle after playing chess with him all of archery He was all over my camera outside my elevated blind until I started hunting him Then he started circling the area checking for scent. Wouldn’t come near if I was in that blind Went out the day before rifle season and hung a climber 100 yards down wind of that blind and hunted the rest of the eve in that blind Left my camo hat and jacket in there for the night hit my climber the next morning and was tagged out 30 minutes after legal light. He patterned me so I patterned me..!!!😂

Yup. Last year elk hunting, the only camp that didn't get an elk was the camp that didnt want to walk anywhere. They'd set up 100 yards from their 4 wheelers and then fire up the motor and move down to the next spot to wreck. Everyone else got an elk by getting off their butts and walking into their calling area.

They 100% do! My deer started patterning my car. They could see it from on top of a hill by the swamp. They knew when my car was there and could tell something wasn’t right after a few bad winds. As hunters that’s when we adapt and change it up. They are animals. We are humans. We out smart them and we head in for the kill. And we make it happen.

Deer just don't "pattern" hunters, deer pattern their everyday environment, so they know when something is out of place...They are also aware if you change your habits, for example, I live in a log home back in the woods, I have deer on the property, I also have dogs, my dogs do NOT run the deer and the deer know it, I'm out and about with the dogs all day, IF I were to change my habits, the deer would become keenly aware and become spooked...

Where I hunt there’s lots of 4 wheel guys going around and the deer don’t rlly seem to mind. They just wait for them to pass and keep on going like nothing happened. But those deer are used to it rather than areas where no one comes unless there hunting.

*Definitely true. Deer know you are there.* I hunted a buck for 4 years and figured out 2 years into it why I wasn't seeing it and others anymore, and that was because they saw me drive up, park, and knew I was there, so they avoided me and moved on. Once I figured this out, I then parked on one side of the property, and walked the parameter to the other side a mile away in order to start seeing them again. Finally got one shot at it and missed in 4 years of hunting it. But they do figure out hunters. It's like training a pet, each time you walk in the woods you are training the deer to react. I teach this to new deer hunters, to watch their reaction to your activity and habits, and change accordingly.

At our farm we have about 2 hrs north of of house we would all go to hint for up to 2 weeks at a time morning and evening. Well my grandpa and uncle would get up drink coffee head to the stand an hour before light . Theyd stay on stand till 945-10 oclock and get down and head to the cabin to fix breakfast only to do the same in the evening. Tons of trailcam pics from 10 am till about 2 then from a little after dark allnight. I went and hung a second stand 30 yds from my Grandpas and walked in with him the next morning and hunted right across from him he thought i was crazy but once he got down to head to make breakfast and got past hearing distance of him walking i instantly had deer start filtering in past the stands . I saw 23 deer that morning and at around 115 pm i killed my second biggest buck to date a 5 year old 168 inch 9 point that we had only about 3 total daylight pictures of. Honestly i felt a little guilty for getting that buck and wouldve rather my aging Grandfather get a shot . But to hispoint he wouldnt have passed most of thefirst 15 -20 deer i had seen before the buck showed up haha

I do the same thing, I hunt on off days, go far earlier than anyone else. No ATV, no opening of gates. Just hike in, kill a 8 point+ buck every year. It’s all about understanding the deer, their behavior and also know what your competition is doing. The best is when some dummy in blue jeans comes ripping through on his 4x4, never sees any deer, but he does the best deer drive anyone could ask for.

It is important to have your entry and exit paths cleaned and free of loud branches and brambles and even mow the path so that it is silent when you move in and out. Many hunters fail to clean those in and out corridors and over open up their tree stands and behind them. I know I have been guilty of over clearing. Another trick is to keep clothes in a plastic bag with wild sage pig feed with a strong odor to imbue your clothes and boots with the odor to cut your human scent down. Don;t Talk Whisper and Keep all sounds as low as possible.
