I had female cat Mary, and we kept a kitten from her first litter Donna (Fargo). After Donna was full grown, she was carrying her first litter of kittens by C-section due to complications. Mary had recently had one of her many litters, and she took over and nursed her grand kittens. As a funny extension of the story, dad had actually planned to take Donna out into the country and euthanize her with a 38. He stopped by his office on the way and his secretary convinced him to take her to the vet. Meanwhile mom mistakenly told me Mary was very sick and probably wouldn’t make it. I was balling my eyes out and then Mary came up to me. I picked her up and went to mom, and showed her Mary. She then said “oh it must have been Donna”. I was like “oh okay”, not really caring because my cat was fine. Shortly thereafter dad came home with Donna and 2 kittens which were subsequently named Smokey and Bandit. I was in single digits of age, and this was in the 70’s if you couldn’t tell by the names Smokey and Bandit.

7ish years ago I adopted a kitten. I already had two other cats. My oldest was a female. After about two weeks of meeting the kitten my oldest cat went into full mama mode. I believe it was exactly what that kitten needed at the time.

I have a feral Cat that had 3 kittens, and now we only have 2. They are fed very well, but she still attacks her other 2 kittens. She does this of jealousy! She tried to claw one of the kittens eyes out, and I saved her. She still attacks the other kitten which are nearly a year old now, just random violence for no reason. She is very aggressive and doesn't want to share food, the barn (its huge and full of bedding) and especially my attention

I used to visit Egypt every summer so that my children could see their Egyptian family. When there, we often heard very small kittens crying, the mother cats sometimes spread their litter, so we didn't rush to pick up every crying kitten we heard. If the crying went on more than 2days, we would hunt for the kitten and start to care for it. There were street cats which my mother in law used to feed. One of them had a litter of 4, we found that she was quite willing to adopt an extra kitten with no fuss, one time we introduced at a few days apart 2 kittens of approximately the same age as her own. Then we found a slightly older kitten, she adopted it too, but we saw that it was pushing all the other slightly smaller kittens away so it could get extra milk, so we took it back and syringe fed it then after a week, it could eat by itself. That cat was also very happy for us to pet her, even when she had kittens with her. Not all street cats are wild by nature.

You neglected to mention THE most disturbing behavior of new mothers. A survival strategy that is known in multiple species including cats. A week or more after giving birth to two kittens, i found the mother, one kitten and most of the head with one leg attached and the tail of the second kitten. i understand why this is somewhat common in the wild. To see this vestigial instinct in a well fed domestic feline was, and remains 25 years later, shocking! 💜🙏⚡️

She'd have been euthanized period. A good housecat WILL NOT DO THIS if they're sufficiently provided for. If she'll kill her own for no reason then it's nothing I want around

I have a cat that just gave birth. Her and the male are in comfortable living conditions and do not seem to be stressed at all. She had 5 kittens total....only two are left. This is due to her laying on them and suffocating them. I separated the two kittens that are still alive and treating it as an orphan kitten situation. According to this video. This is super rare, and I'm a stressed out kitten grandma😟😟 any help/advice would be appreciated.

@@theduckie701 my kitten has been killed by our village cat even though she eats and kills her own kittens 😭 but I was not aware of that i thought only male cats kill kittens 😭 and this is the reason I got my kitten Here is the answer from Google why some cats kill kittens If a male cat (or even the mother herself) perceives that the kittens are not his offspring, he might kill them to bring the female back into heat or eliminate potential competition. Environmental factors, such as insufficient nesting or the lack of a quiet, secure space, can contribute to this behavior. Older cats often reject kittens because they feel their territory and resources are being threatened. It's not necessarily due to jealousy but rather an instinct to protect what's theirs. Rejection can also occur regardless of the cat's gender. The most likely reason a kitten will be eaten is that it was born unhealthy or stillborn. The cat may eat the kittens for any other reason but they are more common in feral cats living in the wild without food or shelter. If your cat eats its kittens, worry not, it's nature adjusting itself.

I was caring for feral cats and I was disturbed to find pieces of kitten limbs and head and realized it was their mother who killed them. I was shocked 😳 and it left a negative residue. It was an ugly sight to see probably necessary for the queen cat to do but still shocking.

I once had a cat ahhh she gave birth to 5 kitten 2 times in my home. She was very protective for her kittens as well as she was really active . Even when I provide her food ,she kills rat lizards and cockroaches . But one day someone gave her poison like she came from the neighboorhood or somewhere and started to vomit la very white thing like soap and breathe really quickly and within some minute she died shraight into my eyes . the time she died she was pregnant .

Once a cat develops a taste for kitten flesh it has to be put down with a wooden cross through its heart or else it will keep feeding on its own kind.

Not only cats kill their babies! Humans do too! And it's not always for survival! It's usually for selfish reasons! I hate when people blame horrible shit like that on cats only! Or animals in general! They don't deserve it, people do.😤😡🤬
