Really great question mate! Something I think a lot of us was wondering about. It seems only natural that giving yourself rules to follow might clash with ideas you have in the future when you are writing on the scale Sanderson is. I remember reading the introduction to the Reckoners I believe it was and how he actually thought it could fit into the Cosmere until he decided to make it a standalone series and that is reminiscent of that feeling of constraint. Having to distance that universe from the Cosmere sufficiently to make it distinct since it couldn't fit into the Cosmere itself ya know?

@dig8634
@dig8634 3 жыл бұрын
@@reklessbravo2129 Yes, I'm aware it could fit with some modification, but I believe he said himself that he didn't feel that it fit the Cosmere. I don't know what he thinks fits and doesn't, but I'm pretty sure it's the technology and the source that didn't fit. He has said elsewhere that he has plans for who gets cosmic travel first etc, and having near future planet just doesn't fit that. The source of the powers is also quite relevant to the plot, and that doesn't fit with the Shard source that the rest of the Cosmere adheres to. In addition to that, he's said he doesn't want an Earth equivalent planet in the Cosmere. Earth-like plants and animals, sure. Earth-like cultures, sure. But he doesn't want a planet that is obviously Earth-with-magic, so any references to Steelcago etc. would have to be cut. The magic itself definitely could fit into the universe, but he had too many parts that didn't fit with his vision of the Cosmere, which is how a restriction he has put on himself has changed his books.

I'm certain of it.

Some other authors refuse to even give updates about their work for years and lash out when asked about such projects, in some cases even leading to bad blood between them and their publishers due to bad communication. I wish I could somehow convince the publishers that we as an audience is fine with waiting however long it takes for Sanderson to get done with his books. That he can take his time writing whatever he wants and we'd be happy. This man writes SO much and so fast that I honestly can't imagine anyone could seriously be upset with waiting for his books. I understand YA is a different market and that those waiting in that line might not get fulfilled by his other work, but I honestly think that if Sanderson always wrote what he had the most passion for at any given time, he would still be cranking out YA books alongside his more adult stories at a pace that should be acceptable to any waiting fan. Sanderson deserves to not feel that constraint if you ask me, seeing how dedicated he is to his writing and his fans. Of course, I get that probably over half of that feeling is Sanderson himself pressuring him to work on works he is less interested in and not the publisher actively giving him grief over when the next book will be ready, but even then I feel like those standards are higher than he needs, since he is as hard working as he is XD

Brandon is like a nerdy, D&D playing version of Ben Shapiro. Every time I see a video of him I can’t help but to think it.

@@ignaciogarcia8602 I'm looking forward to it. Soon. First I'll have to finish Warbreaker and Arcanum Unbounded (minus Scadrial).

Well yeah he planned at first on 3 eras, with 3 books each. Then he wanted to write a Wax and Wayne book as a connecting book between era 1 and 2. While writing it he realized he wanted it to be an era of its own and so we now have 4 eras, 3 of them are trilogies and the wax and wayne era should end when he writes the fourth one

Thanks for explaining! Seems that "accidentally" writing a book happens quite often to poor Brandon Sanderson...

I was pretty sure I was going to self-publish already but damn, that mounting anxiety over deadlines sounds miserable to me. Dude just finished one of the longest books anyone’s ever written while also writing a novella in the same series, and he’s stressing out about not disappointing an entirely different publisher who only just released another one of his books less than a year ago

Brandon, speaking of waiting for books; could you give us an update on the "The Rithmatist" sequel, please? It was the first book of yours I ever read, and I've been eagerly awaiting the release of "The Aztlanian" for 6 years now.
