The red one has a larger comb. It looks like it's waddle is a bit larger. It's tail feathers stick straight out. Maybe it's just the breed.

Wouldn't be a bad thing if one of them was a rooster. That way you'd have fertilized eggs in the future that you could hatch out for more chickens to replace ones that have outlived their laying years. One rooster might be a good thing in that regard. However, if more than one is a rooster, then, well, you'd have to figure out what you'd want to do about that.

Thats a rooster with the big comb . He will be crowing in about 6 weeks. Just keep it for fertile eggs you can incubate

2 years ago I purchased 12 female chicks. 11 hens and 1 rooster was what we ended up with. One year later we tried to incubate 12 eggs, 7 eggs hatched. 5 roosters and 2 hens. I was able to give away 1 rooster. Still have 1 old rooster and 4 young ones. The roosters are very tame no issues. If you are interested any number you want are available. They are Rhode Island Reds and you wont know until they crow. We will not be hatching our own eggs.

The RIR certainly could be a cockerel, pretty young for such a large comb. I think 1 black one is a Silver Laced Wyandotte, the one with more white is a Barred Rock.

It might be a hen since Rhode Island Red Hens have Large Straight combs as well as roosters. just not as tall, it does kind of look like a rooster, it has bigger leg shanks and feet, and will have more pronounced nubs where there spurs will grow out of, and if the others started getting their tail feathers before the Rhode Island did, and it is just now starting to push them out, then it probably could be a rooster, if you start seeing the Tail feathers growing long and curving down, then it's a rooster! But besides all of that, Roosters have a different personality, always being aware of everything, stretching their necks out to look around, where as the hens just mosey around with their heads to the ground more, scratching and pecking and not paying attention as much to their surroundings! Wait a few more weeks, then you will know, especially if at 18-20 weeks, by then you will definitely know by the looks, demeanor, and no eggs being laid! Good Luck!

Hello Ken, it looks to me like you have a Rhode Island Red, a barred rock, a silver laced Wyandotte, and a buff Orpington. Rhode Island Red’s all have combs, the tail feathers should be the tell tale sign of being a rooster

The names of the hens! Mia, your previous dog's name. Helen! Queen Clarisse and Lily. Did Lily have "pasty butt?" Yup, you have to keep cleaning them up. I've heard feeding them scrambled eggs fixes the problem. I think those are all hens. The rooster would have red coming out at his cheeks. One is a Silver Laced Wyandotte (Helen) of your white and black hens but the other is a Plymouth Barred Rock (Mia) with the "bars" of white and black on the feathers. The Golden hen (Queen Clarisse) I don't know the name of the breed. You are correct about the Rhode Island Red (Lily). They will enjoy the little bits of gravel for grit. I hope the door mounting went well! Thanks for this video Ken!

Looks like that, comb on top is more prominent and that’s a male characteristic. Rhode Island Reds are very very aggressive and you did pick a couple more docile breeds. You are going into that phase where pecking each other happens. If you can give those young pullets things to do and focus on now would be a great time to start.

They are too young to tell. Identification: The two dark ones look like Wyandottes or Silver Laced Wyandottes, the light tan one looks like a Buff Orpington, and the darker brown one could be one of a few kinds. It could be a Red Sex Link, or an ISA Red or a Rhode Island Red. All good layers. - The Wyandottes have a small flattened "Rose" style comb. - The Orpington can have either a small "Single" or flattened "Rose" comb. - While your red chicken whether it be a ISA, Sex Link, or Rhode Island Red, all have a large Single comb that will grow even bigger as it grows older. In your group the red chicken looks like it would be a rooster because it has such a large comb but having a large comb is that breeds' nature. I'm afraid you are going to have to wait and listen for the "cock-a-doodle-doo" in order to find out for sure. Of all of your chickens it should also be the most aggressive breed so even that trait can't be a telltale sign of a rooster. You may have to worry about that red chicken's comb and wattles come next winter. Longer combs and wattles tend to freeze in winter. Have Fun
@kenskarpentryАй бұрын
Wow. Good info thanks

That’s exactly how we found out we had a rooster. Larger comb, lots of cock-a-doodle-doo, and aggressive. If your allowed to keep him ,you could see how he works out.
