Sir, this is an outstanding video / tutorial. I've done considerable research on the reasons why my GMC Acadia throws a P0017 fault code. Your video ties all the issues with the numerous timing fault codes together and I now fully understand the issues. watching you disassemble and reinstall the chains illustrated with complete clarity what it means when a technician states your timing chains have 'stretched'. seeing the difference between the length of travel difference between the new and old tensioners turned on my internal light bulb as to how the chains physically stretch.....thanks for helping me figure this out. the level of detail and you your ability to teach / instruct is exceptional. Many thanks.

Thank you for very detailed video on replacing the chains with the engine out. I had my chains done at 120k km (I'm in Canada) and now 5 yrs and only 5000km later, I am getting occasional P0008 code (same code that I had 5 yrs ago). I will do the job on my own and "in vehicle" this time. Previously I had it done at the GM dealership for $2500, which I though was not too bad of a price. I own 2010 Enclave and strongly believe that allowing engine oil to go low is the major culprit for chain failure .... and these engines are notorious for that. I've always owned GM vehicles and I always subjected them to an average care, but I am not petty enough to check oil level every second day if I don't see any leaks. These motors however are known to have "unexpected" oil level issues, and you must check oil level at least once per week or more often when doing longer trips. Before each of my 2 occurrences with P0008 code I found my engine to be missing 3.5 quarts of oil at no leaks and no check engine light (until is too late)!!!! I don't understand why GM did not introduce additional low oil sensor for so many years!!! There should be a class action lawsuit for that! Anyways, on all GM engines, do yourself a favor and check your oil level (+ oil quality) often and replace your oil every 5000-8000km (3.5-5k miles). My close friend owns a 2008 Enclave with 320k km and he did not have problems with his timing chains yet! He changes oil every 5000km, and not when the vehicle tells him to do so. In older GM vehicles (even only 1 generation older) timing chains were installed in factory for life!!! I still own a 17 year old 2006 Impala with lots of miles that I have often neglected with no engine problems at all. I heard that In early 2000s engineers were asked to make motors more "green" (not necessarily better on gas!, but less polluting), and this is what they came up with, unfortunately. If you will be doing the job by yourself watch other videos on 3.6l GM engines (there is lots of those on you tube) and pick and choose pieces of good advice from all of them. I definitely picked up many good remarks from it, although not all 100% was kosher :). Thank you again for this video. God Bless.

I test drove a 2012 Lexus with a timing chain. It had 117,000 mile. I called the dealer who had worked on this car since new and asked how many times he had seen a timing chain problem in a Lexus. "Never" was the answer. He had been with Lexus for 12 years.

Gm later on switched to a different pitch chain. That took care of the stretched timing chain issues. They also switched to 1 timing chain, instead of 3. This made it a lot less complex. There is a great video from Cloyees showing the engine already removed & doing the timing chain procedure. The engine should be removed to do this job. It's very labor intensive..

I bought a new 2012 Acadia and still have it with 160,000 miles on it. It’s had its oil changed every 5000 miles and 3 or 4 transmission drain and fills. I really want it to be my last car. It’s never seen salt, still has original brakes. The brake fluids have been changed 2 or 3 times. It’s got new struts and shocks. A few years back, there was a rattle on cold starts that I think was the chain/tensioner, but that has gone away on its own. I want it to be my last car. I drive it 3000 miles a yr. I’m willing to preemptively change out the chain before it breaks and ruins the valves. I drive it maturely. What are the chances that it will last another 10 or 15 yrs? I’m 70 yrs old. It doesn’t burn oil.

Hello, I have a 2000 Chrysler Concorde LXI, with 185,000 on it. I tried changing the belt myself, and apparently bent the rods? Just before this, I threw the parts cannon at this car, from all new sensors, AC COMPRESSOR, Alternator, radiator, whole new front end, ? Brand new tires and Rims, exhaust work, filler neck, new fuel injectors, I can go on and on? What do you suggest I do? I did all the work myself, in my driveway, but fixing the heads, is a whole another ball game? Can you make a suggestion? Or give me any ideas, what to do? I’d really like to sell the whole car, as is? Any comments are welcome? Thanks, Mark O.

I was wondering if you may help me? I have a 2013 Chevy Captiva sport that was in reserve power mode. I took him to the mechanic who could not figure out why I was getting so many diagnostic codes pop up and he said he wouldn’t be able to fix it because it’s a computer issue. When I went to look at the car, the hood was up and running and there was an obvious vacuum leak you can hear. He said he would have to fix the PVC vacuum tube that was cracked. Today when I went to pick it up, he said it was running and they fix the tube when I got there it would not start. He told me it was the timing chain, and it had failed. When I asked about the timing chain, he said well it could also be warped valves? I’ve also had a Few people tell me that it would not even crank if that was the issue What should I do?
