Hate to disagree but here is my story: Had an 11 Forester. Am Canadian but was vacationing in SC. Had Hankook winters which were probably more than half worn. Hit something and ruined a front tire. Put on the tiny spare and had to drive it that way for over a week. Only later realized I should have put it on the rear and moved that tire to the front. Walmart ordered a new Hankook . That’s why it took over a week. Winter tires are not stocked in SC. They installed the new tire . Got home and installed my summers. Used the same winter tires all the next winter with no problems.

It will will not be immediate damage to your car. You can drive for a little while on different tires.But if you drive for an extended period of time on different tires the wheels are spinning at different rates and it will effect your transmission and the differential not to mention void your Subaru warranty.

@@scsubaruschoolwithevan Thanks for the reply. Cant remember how many km were on the car at the time. Was around 2015 and it probably had around 150,000. Traded at 220,000.

Great info.. so, should all Subaru shops have the ability to shave tires?

So this does make sense seeing as how subaru has such a sophisticated AWD system. However I can’t imagine having 16,000 miles on a set of tires and needing to replace all 4, but that is exactly what Subaru is telling me. I bought extra tire and wheel protection when I purchased the car so I’m going to atleast file a claim that I want all 4 replaced if I can’t run these practically new tires.
