it only disables it for that ignition cycle. You need to push the button every time you start the car. There is a product called Auto-Start Stop eliminator which will turn in off full time. It works really well and is supposed to be pretty easy to install. Thanks for watching and commenting

I work late hours so whenever my vehicle is in for service, I pick it up after hours using my spare key. Then i have to go back during their business hours to pick up the key they have. I have asked them to just lock my key in the vehicle and they said it can't be done. I showed them this video and they still refuse. Seems like such a simple thing to do for customer service and convenience. Won't be buying another vehicle from that dealer.

I don’t think any other manufacturer has a design defect like this. It’s a SAFETY ISSUE! Ridiculous! My hatch opened on its own on several occasions overnight and my battery went dead. My keys were hanging up on a hook and I let my dog out after I hung up my keys so I absolutely know it was not my fault.

Curious... if you put your keys in a foil bag, or out of range, does this still happen? Also, are both keys hung up, or is the other key somewhere else?

Evan, I just lock my Outback keys in the car by locking the electronic lock on drivers door, and close drivers door with handle open. The key fob just auto deactivates and when I unlock with the pin code I need to reactivate the key fob by placing next to start button. This is super easy !! Not too sure if Subaru has done software upgrade but this cuts out half your steps !

It a terrible service offered by Sirius XM. They don't offer service to every area. Sirius seems to focus on larger cities(especially with their traffic info) Where I am, my town is listed but grouped with a large area of a few other cities where the temperature can range 20 degrees. We get very few people that continue with this service. Thanks for watching and commenting

Lane Keep Assist isn't the button on bottom right of steering wheel. That's lane centering. Similar, but different. Lane Centering ONLY works when the car is using cruise control. It keeps the car centered, more or less, in the lane while in cruise control. Lane Keep Assist on the other hand can be set up to beep if you cross the line or correct if you approach the line. It can also detect if you're "swaying" - going from one line to another and operates when you are NOT using cruise control unless you turn it off. Lane Keep Assist you have to turn on/off using the touch screen. Outside of this your video is nicely done.
@scsubaruschoolwithevan
@scsubaruschoolwithevan Ай бұрын
It depends on the car you have. If you have the 11.6 inch screen you are correct. But Subaru models with the 8inch screen, 2024 and older Forester, 23 and older Crosstrek, 2019 and Older Outback 2022 and older Impreza the steering wheel button does both lane keep assist and lane centering. The 8 inch screen doesn't offer any controls for eyesight on the touchscreen. Thanks for watching and commenting

Great explanation of this feature, thank you for the video. I just went and set this up on our new 24 Outback. One thing that concerns me though. After opening the driver side door using the PIN code, the disabled key fob will still start the car by simply pressing it against the start button. If you try to use the key fob, it will tell you on the display of the center console that the key fob is deactivated.... However, if someone simply presses it against the start button, it will start the car and they can drive away. It's unfortunate that they're not required to know the procedure to reactivate the fob. Yes, I realize all that would have to happen for someone to actually do this but it is possible and I wish it was a bit more secure. It's really not much different than leaving a traditional key in your car in the sense that most people know to put the fob up against the start button if things aren't working right.
@scsubaruschoolwithevan
@scsubaruschoolwithevan Ай бұрын
Very true. It's not a perfect system. That is one reason why I always suggest people hide their key very well inside the car to reduce the risk of someone breaking in and taking the car. Thanks for watching and commenting

Good video…question…if the lights are on in the top position and under my complete control….If I don’t turn that off and the key is in the ignition, but power off…..it will leave lights on and drain the battery quickly….is that some kind of safety feature that escapes my reasoning…they go off when key is out of ignition, but they will go back on when the key is put back in the ignition even though nothing else has been turned on….I have been stranded more than once. It happens when waiting for someone in the parking lot usually. I will be going to AUTO after this video BTW…thank you

thank for watching and commenting. You are correct about the lights and "real keys". I don't know why Subarus do that. It has been a feature as long as I can remember. As keys are being offered less and less on cars. This feature will almost disappear

Friend has a 2023 Subaru Forrester that won't allow you to do anything until the startup splash screen does its annoying thing. Left your radio on when you got out? Sorry, can't turn it down or off....yet...And if you put it in reverse...sorry, backup camera doesn't let you use the controls or knob either. Shift back to park and then wait out the startup screen to be able to turn your volume down....seriously. Why have a knob that doesn't always work? And it will start playing from the phone, not the radio. It starts to autoplay whatever you were listening to last on your iPhone. Even if the phone is quiet and you're not listening to it before starting the car, on car startup, it starts playing form your phone. It's a very bad design that doesn't seem to be getting any better, and probably worse, as time and model years move on. It is the number one complaint....why don't they fix it? It's not doing what people expect.
