4 жыл бұрынIn my first ever trip to the Indonesian island of Sumatra I decided to start the trip in style, by splashing out on a hotel for the massive price of $8. You certainly can't call me a cheap Scotsman.
Was my Medan city center hotel worth this lofty price? Watch and see.
The hotel was OYO 615 Residence Puri Hotel, located on Jalan Puri. This is a very central location in Medan and anything you want is not too far away.
The video starts at Medan's main airport, Kualanamu International Airport. A nice, modern and clean airport with a new train service to Medan city center, right outside the massive Center Point Mall.

@Simon Curtis you just need a ticket to an onward country and no I didn't have it. It's the airline that checks it, not immigration. That's because it's the airline's responsibility to fly you home if immigration rejects you. If you're worried you can just Photoshop a ticket or buy a fully refundable one.

Yep, hate them who said we can't speak English in Indonesia. I learned English since 10 yo, that time I was in the third grade of elementary school. I love to practice English because English is an International Language and in this globalization era it's crucial to be able to understand and speak English. What part do people think he's being rude in? I'm about 2/3 in and I don't notice anything yet. If people mean because he is speaking without full sentences, it's to ease in understanding. Notice some people say they don't speak English well, so he's just trying to use the main relevant words to communicate. That doesn't seem rude to me.

Its Funny but I think some people take offence. A lot of Asians countries dont have a culture of questioning something. They must respect authority. That's a great price for the accomodation. You'd expect it to be a complete dive for that money, but it's actually really nice. You have air-con and your own bathroom. Just a shame about not having a mini fridge, but you can't complain for about five or six quid.

FYI, OYO is the company who maintain the standards making sure the room is acceptable, turning any house or buildings with many rooms into hotels its just like airbnb but with hotel management and $8 isnt the cheapest i bet.

Most indonesians english skill are under average, especially for hearing and speaking. And, we're too adjusted to hear the american accent, so i guess you need to slow down because it's very hard for us keep up with your accent 😂 But i love your accent, it's unique and beautiful to hear! @@meandyouagainstthealgorith5787 Both works pretty well, but some people might understand a word or 2 if you speak really simple English such as "Airport, where?" try using google translate and learn some simple nouns and verbs, or just show them your phone screen with translated words if you don't have time to do learn it.

For me, it's easier listen to Scottish or British accent rather than American haha. I really loved it when there is a TOEFL test listening section that used British accent, far much easier to interpret 😁

I recommend you to backpacking to Jogjakarta or Malang in Java Island. The people are nice and feel their hospitality. They are probably able to speak English since those are the famous city for education. The meals are also cheap and delicious.

Its hard for the indonesian ppl to understand him because of his scottish accent. Most indonesian ppl are only familiar to american accent and sometimes they are struggling to understand scottish,irish or even british accent.

I dont think so, cause it's in the airpot, the worker have been trained to speak english, especially for the foreign people. Sometime we have to care about the time, when it close, the service time is over. 😊

Terus mbak nya jawab No, nah yg aneh ketika si bule blng lagi, brrti saya harus mencari pd besok hari nya, kok jawab nya No jg, brrti ada gk pahamnya jg si mbak, karena mungkin si bule kecepetan ngemengnya haha

The room is very clean for a 8 usd dollars room and with air conditioning and TV. Good enough if you are just there for sleeping. Yeah, I will stay there if I go to Medan.

Di Indonesia 8 dolar terbilang nominal yang cukup lumayan untuk hidup 3 hari coba di Swiss 8 dolar naik uber cuma jalan 3 kilometer..jadi inget waktu traveling tahun 2018 saking kangen nya sama indomie gua coba beli di supermarket terdekat di daerah bern harganya itu 0,75 dolar yah sekitaran 11 ribu indonesia dan gua juga coba beli jengkol yg ada di kemasan 1kg waktu itu harga nya 53 dolar sekitaran 750 ribu indonesia buat 1kg jengkol doang gila kan btw itu juga jengkol impor dari vietnam,sebernya kita ini sultan cuma salah Negara aja dan kita Juga harus bersyukur tinggal di indonesia apa" serba murah..tapi itu semua kembali lagi pada pendapatan negara masing" di Swiss emg serba mahal tapi gaji di sana sangat menggiurkan

always keep the ac temp between 20-24 for the best results , the min you go below 18-19 it will not work . That is just the range the numbering comes with on the remotes but it does not mean it will work at that temp. Air con works best between 20-24

In the US some gas stations have bathrooms on the side and they'd give you a key that usually had a plank of wood attached to it so people wouldnt steal/remember to give it back lol

Sim card is the most important for backpacker. I remembered when I arrived in Ho chi minh by bus from Phnom penh. No Sim card, no Dong only USD on my pocket. Unfortunately, they didnt accept USD for payment. That was horrific when I didnt know where I was, where was my booked room location. No one can speak english, even someone can do, he didnt want to talk to (maybe being afraid to foreigner,idk). Until I met duo germany, I was saved by showing me their google map 😁.
