I bought this meter several years ago with the same type of probes you are using on here. For the home hobbyist, this is a fantastic setup! Once a year I check my standards to make sure everything is still calibrated. It is still just as accurate as the day I bought it! I have been very happy with this digital multimeter !👍

You're lucky this UT61E survives mains voltage on all ranges (I've tested it on AC240V 50Hz). You aren't supposed to rotate the selector to measure AC line frequency. There's an alternate frequency mode on that AC volt selector position. I've had the same meter for roughly the same amount of time as you. Although it's not my favourite meter, I like it a lot. Not sure if this sounds strange, but one of the main reasons I like about it is that it doesn't auto turn off so that I don't have to make sure i press a button when I turn it on, which I often forget when using my other meters. The lack of backlight doesn't bother me one bit. Although a 2000 count meter will fit most of my needs, it's therapeutic to look at that 22,000 count display. I also like the fact that it beeps if I find a short in diode mode. This makes troubleshooting board issues so much easier and faster because i don't have to keep my eyes on the meter display. If it also had the same beeping (or chirping) as my Fluke 117 when discovering a forward voltage drop on a diode, then the UT61E would be a near perfect multimeter to stay on the bench.

It's my favorite meter ever. I use it every day for a few years already, in many modes and applications and sometimes with mains voltage and current with no problems. Adding a switchable back light was easy, half an hour work and it's perfect. I really enjoy the extremely fast continuity test (as long as the probes are clean), diode beep on short and fast Ohm reading. Capacitance also works great, comparing with DE-5000 all values are correct. 22000 count it's a superb feature two have. All in all UT61e is an excellent peace of equipment, I hope they keep manufacturing it with no changes! Well maybe the backlight but even without it i recommend this meter 100%.

I own and use the 61E, and am quite pleased with it. I like that the 22,000 count resolution gives me an extra digit of resolution up to 22 volts, as opposed to 4 volts or 6 volts on a 4K or 6K count meter. I can't say that its ever made a practical difference, but I'm still glad it's there. I miss the backlight, but there are videos from several sources on adding one. >Charlie

I really like the Uni-T 61e, I picked mine a number of years ago possibly 5 and it has survived quite a few falls (12ft or more from a window) and plenty of misuse. Nice clear display and perfectly serviceable for hobby use. I have only replaced the battery in mine twice and I have even had it doing logging to the PC for extended periods.

Brymen bm867 , same uni T and hanang , keithley 199 and a fluke 8520 . Hands down , the one that gets most use and lives centred on the workbench is the uni-t , The hanang un8008 is the household meter , the brymen I got when I tackled repairing the dead keithley and fluke I bought off Ebay. They're all great meters , the brymen just seems to occupy more real estate on a crowded bench than necessary at times , the hanang was just a whim but handy around the house . The other two are shelf dwellers, since most benchwork is eyes down and looking up is a distraction they are sorely underutilised . Currently they are redundant overspec'd panel meters for my bench power supply , which seems a shame ... kinda like keeping chickens in your vintage mustang. Still , it's better than having the as ornaments , that job is taken by the multimeter I forgot , an AVO 8 mkii in full working order but when I dust it off it's just that .

Thanks for your reviews I bought this multimeter. I was a Fluke tipe of guy until I have this meter. I am so pleasently surprised of this meter I don't like it...I love it. Believe it or not I'm actually using it more than my Fluke. It's fast, easy to handle, great display (don't miss the backlight) and I like the arrange of the rotary functions selections since it goes straight to what I ussually use everytime. Of course I will only need my Fluke when the going gets tough but now it can rest as a second hand multimeter, most of my time work deals with low voltages. I'm planning to get the UT139 also. I wasn't a chinesse tipe of guy but now I'm glad I was wrong.

Great follow up for the uni-t. My favorite meter has quickly become the aneng Q1. I reach for that one first every time. But the best part of any of my multimeters is those probe master probes I got awhile ago. I have found that checking the continuity check of all of my meters that they latch better and faster with the probe masters. Hey maybe you could get them to do a giveaway on your channel. Great video Paul.

You should like this meter, especially after it survived what you did to it at 11:33. Read the manual dude. Hahaha. You just put 120VAC into the meter and rotated the switch to the low voltage HZ setting....twice. WWRRONG! To measure AC mains HZ just hit the yellow button when in the AC volts position. The symbol is right there in plain sight on the selector switch and is color coded to the yellow button even. The manual explains it too. I am sure you understand this now, but for anyone watching.....No need to abuse your meter through ignorance.

I bought this Uni UT61e after watching the earlier review video and haven't had any issue with it, including testing mains 230V. I find the 5th digit very useful on the 10A range as I can see down to the milliamp. I'm not sure if my meter is slightly different to the video as the manual for mine mentions not to apply more than 30V RMS or 60V DC on any mode, except the Voltage and Current modes. To measure the mains cycle frequency on mine, I first put it on Voltage, press the blue button for AC and then press the yellow button to show the cycle frequency. I managed to blow the 10A fuse by mistake after measuring the current from an SLA battery charger and forgetting to swap the probes before measuring the battery voltage. In case anyone runs into the same issue, it uses a BS 1362 10A ceramic fuse, the fuse that fits a UK/Irish appliance power plug. The 1A fuses are however less common here as small appliances such as a table lamp usually have a 3A fuse minimum in its plug.

9 volt powered meters tend not to be damaged from battery leaks I read the 9 volt is double wrapped and much less likely to leak and damage the meter like AA or AAA cells. The sunbeam dollar store 9 volt battery works just fine for meters and smoke detectors.

After a year it was still very reliable and on spec, but since i bought a voltage reference (checked with a 6.5 digit agilent multimeter) , i wanted to calbrate it to be spot on down to the exact millivolt. Now, on the 20V range it is off by only + or - 1 millivolt at most. Curious to see the long term stability Great multimeter, i really want to buy another one, you can't have too many multimeter, and i love this one. What do ya think of the Aneng 8009, I have it and the 8008 - the 8009 has a small edge with Temp and NCV functions but loses the square wave which is less useful at least to me. The 61E has neither temp, backlight or NCV, and that may not matter in some cases. I liked the 22,000 count 61E but for my purpose I got the UT139C as it has more input protection, and a backlight with the biggest tradeoff being its 6,000 count. As always its six of one and half dozen of the other--lol Id like to see someone crack open the Voltcraft VC830 from Germany, it looks like a clone of the UT61 series with virtually the same case with light gray rubber surround but costs almost twice as much about $79 on Amazon - dont see much info on the VC830 id like to see the interals and see if its worth twice as much as its only a 6,000 count meter.

I have the Aneng 8009 which is basically the same size as the 8008...like the features but I like a meter to have a fair amount of weight and bulk to it...the Aneng is just too small and light unless you like a pocket meter. On the bench it is flimsy and doesn't prop up too well as you demonstrated. BTW I cringed when you rotated the dial with the AC line connected.

I found my UT61e to be quite a bit out for voltage compared to my Keithley 2000 and Fluke 289, even the lowly Aneng was more accurate. At least it was easy to calibrate though with just a simple screw adjustment inside. My favorite meter would have the be the Fluke 289 as it's a beast with more features than you can shake a stick at. I always recommend UT61e for beginners however.
