Cool way to make a DIY mat and silicone is great at catching gold. For me I can't stand the corn starch method I will stick with the dawn dish soap method it still stinks just not as bad. Love DIY new subscriber Thanks for sharing.

Definitely catches gold! I tried the water and soap method but I don't really like it. Its sticky and slimy imo and the corn flour is just sticky😂thanks for watching and subscribing!

@@lankywhiteguy thats cool. So nany things to make from silicon and i love the food colouring for that green.my davourite colour for gokd fossicking gear. I just made a sluice simikar to an A52 keene in the bush and i cant get any indixator ribbed matting in this area. Today will ve trial of sluice

If you want uniform thickness across your mat, place strips of wood along the edges the same thickness you want to achieve. Make sure your rolling pin will span the distance. 👍🏻

nice one. really helps with my project, and really makes me understand the curing of silicone. How about try thinning the silicone with acetone for 1/4 ratio and then mis with corn starch? i wonder if it will works..

@@allanclover409 I've tried thinning to make it pourable but anytime I get a pourable mixture, the shrinkage is too excessive to form in mold. Let me know if it works! Thanks for watching.

thanks for the input; i have to add a couple of suggestions though; the use firstly of a wide blade scraper to spread the compound; secondly, a piece of thin (or thick) plywood instead of cling film, to obtain a flat bottom; thirdly and lastly, a steel ruler for cutting as a guide, to have straight edges .....

I love what looks to be the Snooker dog cup coasters on the work bench. That mat turned out great looks very lite but durable. I might have to try this out in the future, thanks for sharing! Yeah it has been cold and the early snow we got does not want to melt. Hope for a few warms days to melt it away so we can get back out there washing rocks! Hope you had a great holiday.

It was a long process using a jigsaw and a dremel for the curly mat. For the triangle mat was all tables, I took tons of pictures and video years ago when I made it. Unfortunately that footage is locked up in a storage building currently. If I ever get a chance I will definitely share what I did! Thanks for watching!

My wife made some cat ears to wear on her head out of hot glue, and I noticed they are very rigid, well formed and stronger than I would of guessed. Do you think hot glue could work as a mat?

The cost of making the mold plus the cost of the silicone and other materials not including time and labor, don't know if this is really saving much anything over buying one off the internet. Interesting build nevertheless. If I did this project, I would add a layer of fiberglass mesh or stucco mesh under the plastic before rolling it. Might help resist ripping over time.

Yeah, it helps work the "water" food color into the mix so it will cure from the inside out. In this process water is the activator. Thanks for watching!

On the larger mats the riffle height is 1/4 inch and the wells are 1/4inch. On the v mat they are about 3/16 high. The riffles need to be tall enough to make a low pressure area behind them. Flow rate plays a big part as well. Thanks for watching!

At 1:35 I mentioned 1/2 a small bottle. I would say 1/4 bottle or 10-15 drops per tube of silicone. This video I used 2 tubes and half (or just under) a bottle of color. Thanks for watching!

It's vinegar typ stuff in the silicone, not acetone.

It actually is acetone, the same thing in certain nail polish remover. That is what evaporates out to aid in curing the silicone. Thanks for watching!

Don’t allow prospectors dream to rip down any stl. Files as the patent is “abandoned”(oct 6).. They are moot and it was only for the name, never the mat… so Yeah…Rad!.. Besides, I Despise groomers and they advertise with rainbow/(look groomer art.. Was contacted As I already did my homework, shut them down.🤙🏻

There isn't a mold for that mat, I made my own molds for all of my mats. Alan Robertson on KZfaq has a lot of molds and mats that he has created that will work perfectly for this process! Thanks for watching!
