I love your podcasts and love to learn of the Jewish culture and the Jewish history. I have a suggestion. Many, of us are not of the Jewish religion and doesn’t understand some of the Hebrew verbiage/language. It would be helpful (even if it’s one word) to explain in the English language what an event or explanation in any form means. It’s usually one Hebraic word ( eg. Shabbat, Shiva) and at times can be hard to follow! I hope this makes sense! God Bless!

Very interesting, Rabbi. I myself am a Catholic Christian, and the Jewish concept of hell sounds very similar to the Catholic concept of Purgatory. It is for those who are ultimately destined for heaven, but have either remaining temporal punishment due to sins already forgiven, or remaining venial sins which they did not get a chance to repent from before passing away.

Hell is not a hospital. Heaven is not a hospital. Reality in spiritual ways has influence. The same things which happened to Jesus in His day, happen to His followers in this day and for all time. I believe when we die we will pay for the wrong things we have done. But because G-d is Just and Fair, and gave us Free will, after we have paid for our sins, it makes sense the exit door of hell would be contrition and repentance. So we will enter into the door of hell through our unrepented sins. And stay there as long as we do not repent. Seeing how stubborn and prideful some people are, I believe many will be in there for a very long time before they repent and are able to exit. However, I'm not ruling out that some souls will be in there forever, because of the extremity of pride and ego-self love, how it feels no need of repentance and is outrightly against G-d. On the other hand, I feel that G-d being Just and Fair will reward those who lived a life of good deeds and obedient to his laws. They will resurrect and live a pleasant life. So long they continue to do G-ds will. If not, I believe repentance will be required or they go to hell. So hell will last forever as a ugly detterence against sin and a cleansing-like place.
