Following up from my last video, there were a lot of different opinions about the Lithuanian military's new uniforms - and to my surprise, many were negative! So, I thought I would make a short video about what you all had to say, and maybe analyze it a little.
This video includes clips from @halfasinteresting 's video on UCP. You can check it out here: • The US Army’s Universa...

Most surprising that is made not only for forest but for desert... We don't have deserts... Sure small group goes on deployment, but that small group.

It's probably because we cannot afford to have dozens of specialized uniforms so instead the goal is to have a generic ones that can work anywhere.

Again - the new uniform is actually good. To the people who say "But.. it's not good at camouflage!" - i volunteered in Ukraine. Barely ANYBODY uses the camo for camouflage except snipers and spec ops guys. Most people SPECIFICALLY wear bright yellow or blue tapes for identification, making the camo - worthless. This is the same issue i have for people hating the UCP pattern when it probably saved a LOT of people from friendly fire in Iraq and Afghanistan, since most casaulties actually came from there.

I served in 2011-2014 and was issued with old forest pattern uniform(M05). Which worked very well during summer month (and in nighttime :)) in dense forest areas (mostly conifers) but in open fields or meadows the uniform was very noticeable. I was surprised how well French uniform pattern blends in Lithuania's environment. I guest there is no such think as really universal pattern

The reason why the LŠS (rifelman) dont use Lithuanian armed forces camo's is beacause the rifleman buy uniforms and gear themselves and the reason why its applied to most (not all) rifeman is because it's the most commercial and easy to purchase.

LT Riflemen's Union chose woodland in the early 1990s when it was restored. We are not military, so we can't wear official patented country military camos. Members are buying the equipment themselves, so either woodland or multicam are available for us. Some of us choose to wear woodland for parades and other official business and use multicam for exercises. Generally m81 woodland works much better in wooded areas, it is still one of the best camo patterns that exist. Anyway, since riflemen are supplying themselves, every riflemen usually wears a mix of woodland, multicam, Brittish MTP, etc.

I've been part of the LŠS (lithuanian riflemens union) for 6 years now, we use the old american camo due to it being a widelly available camo for civilian use. What that means is sure you can buy the new lithuanian camo, but if it isnt accepted for civilian use then you can get sued or even arrested for it. The woodland camo is the only widely available civilian camo so we just use that

When I was serving in Lithiuanian armed forces. m05 "misko" or as we call them "eglute" (evergreen tree) was standard issue. It's really good for operating in Lithuanian forests. When I joined US army I got most of my gear in OCP multicam pattern. It works in wider range of environment but not as good for one specific environment as the old M05 was.

I wore British DPM for 20 years. Multicam replaced it. DPM was far more effective in European woodland. Multicam is too light, so l understand why some do not like it. I still wear DPM for hunting. Germans and Swedes seem happier with darker patterns.

It's not multicam, It's MTP. MOD contracted Crye Precision to make them a "UK multicam" but use the DPM pattern. As an 18 year Infantryman i do agree that temperate DPM was better in some circumstances but MTP is better in far more of them. But i do think we should have a separate modern desert pattern.

Camoflage is something very important for a soldier because it is his first line of defence. You can only shoot what you can see. Therefore i think some crititique on this camoflage is acaptable because it is more suited for rapid deployment forces which work worldwide than homeland defence. I think modern woodland camoflages like Wasp II would be perfect for the very green enviroment of the baltics.

I've been seeing more Riflemen from the LŠS using French CCE woodland. It's a bit more faded than the M81 style that is used by many, and it seems to blend in much better to the environment. It even appears to work pretty good in some situations where the newer camo may excel in (but obviously the new camo will not be good in darker, greener situations).

The Lithuanian Riflemen Union uses 3 patterns: m81 Woodland, a newer variant of the m81 which seems to be more faded or blander (I don't really know how to put it), and then the universal pattern of the land forces which is used by certain members who are of the "active" branch meaning they are also involved with the military to some extent (active or reserve). I don't think the LRU will replace the m81 as it is sort of like a recognition symbol of the riflemen meaning when people see the woodland camo they immediately think of them. Although I like woodland I would much prefer for missions and hikes that we used flecktarn as from my experience it is way better suited for rural and wooded environments and leave woodland for ceremonies. But of course that is only me and my opinion.

Thanks for interesting videos. I have no issue with washing this new pattern camouflage. Don’t wash it into very hot water and colours will last long. Material is durable. But I am not happy with this Bright camouflage. I do not agree that it better fits to urban environment. Every trained soldier knows that the best cover is in the dark places, next to shadow side of the wall, etc. Do you think that Bright camouflage works betters in the shadow or darkened room? It also would apply for deserts and mountains like in Afghanistan. Take cover on the shadow side. Old/Green camouflage was not good, but it was excellent in the forests or in other type of the nature; because it was dark and built up areas includes parks, grass, gardens, etc., it worked good in urban as well. Therefore I prefer old vs new. Woodland doesn’t work in the North of Europe region. It is still used in some paramilitary organizations because of mass production and consequently low cost. In general, it is commercial material, not for real service, especially for this region. I spent almost 40 years in military (paratroops and infantry) and if I had a choice, I would choose olive green. I and my colleagues have tested different patterns in different environments and the absolute winner is simple Olive Green. It fits well in the forests, because it merges with tree trunks and branches, but also it works well in the build up area inside and outside. Big mistake many people does when they compare patterns on photos. It the same places you can find several angles and backgrounds which has different brightness and colours. Photos are good if you want to persuade somebody, just take photo from the right angle. Conclusion: I vote for Olive Green, like Israel has; the Old/Green camouflage is in the second place; New/Bright is not good; Woodland is not usable in this region at all. Anyway, thanks for interesting videos. Please continue.

m81 is the goat of camos in style and practicality..well, style mostly. As for the reasons why it was picked, there is no one simple reason. Tho I have to mention that the rifleman union is not attached to a single camo. Due to differing budget between each member, members who have more money would pick a more modern and expensive equipment, which usually lacks an option in m81 woodland. So Anything from coyote, to ranger green to multicam and even the old Lithuanian military camo is used in both equipment and clothes. But usually woodland camo dominates in usage.

What you mentioned is about riflemen using woodland exactly what it is. It’s cheap and widely accesible. But that is also why I hate it. Most fishermen and mushroom pickers are wearing woodland. Also it’s close to impossible to acquire high quality materials. Personally I really don’t like the pattern, at the same time it’s still better than the new army pattern which is waaaaaay too bright. Oh and Canadian pattern (both of them) would work much better in specific conditions

Sveikas! I love your videos and appreciate all your hard work and details regarding military topics. However in full honesty I am becoming quite bored and annoyed at the quantity of military videos being published compared to past topics. I feel it would be best for a long time viewer to have revolving topics and not one set tone for the channel. I still appreciate these military videos although I’m becoming less and less engaged because it feels to serious, intense, and sometimes boring in my personal opinion- always educational nonetheless. If you make more military videos, could you discuss the Smiltynė / Kaliningrad border. I was there on holiday and walked right up to the line you’re not supposed to cross. What happens if I do cross it? I think there is a certain amount of time before I touch Russian soil and the buffer zone is for Lithuanians to remain safe. Also while in Nida’s Death Valley, I felt like a Russian ship was following me while I was near the border the dune’s fences. Maybe that was just paranoia but still… it felt very eerie that I was the only one on the walking paths and the ship was parallel to me. Maybe this was a Lithuanian ship? Anyways… please make more content about other topics again. I really miss this about your channel. Thank you for all that you do and I hope your family is healthy, happy, and well! ❤

Thanks for sharing your opinion- and so politely and diplomatically too! Yes I know you’re not the only one thinking this. But I guess keep in mind that I used to publish only 1-2 times per week with little or no military content. Now it’s 3-4 times per week and I always make sure to alternate between military and non military videos (so you can be sure the video tomorrow will be non military). So I’m essentially putting out the same amount of non military content as before. i guess the only thing you’ll need to endure is seeing these military videos in your feed if you’re a subscriber. And thanks for the suggestion, I’ll look into it! I accidentally wandered across the Canada/US border once in my early 20s. American Border police came rolling up in their big SUVs a few minutes later to scare me and my friends enough to make sure we would never do it again 😂

While our new uniform, would perform much better. Here's some examples from this channel: www.youtube.com/@ab3army/videos Why I mention russian-Ukrainian war? Because let's be honest, russia is the only nation which could invade us. Though I think both uniforms should be in use, because Lithuania has more forests than Ukraine.

Old one is way too dark, as as soon as you step out of the forests you stand out like a black spot, this was similar problem with Russian EMR uniform and its the reason why soldiers, if they could afford it, started privatley purchasing multicam and atacs fg camo. Also one thing to consider, after watching many ukraine war footage, the forests will get blown up to bits and then the battle field just turns into a big brown mud field so multicam works better there, especially when its wet and dirty also considering that the trench warfare is slowly coming back the multicam also works better there. Lithuanian military still in a mindset that they will operate like partisans or something but looking at current warfare development it wont be the case anymore.
