Do people in Lithuania? For example, the Ukrainians want to use f-16 but most of them can't speak English. How can America help European countries if a large portion of their country can't speak English? that's a serious problem, especially with aviation. and I always love to see how the logistics work and I'm not surprised they use rail to transport tanks and other vehicles. my recommendation is that the air force of any nato country learn English immediately if they want to fly fighter jets.

Hematogen candy is not just being sold at markets (in fact you can rarely see them in markets) but in apothecary as it is technically something meant to help with iron deficiency. Being candy, and a tasty one at that, really helps with getting kids to eat them.

I don't know if it's a good idea to station German soldiers in Lithuania permanently. Firstly, the stationing costs the German taxpayer many billions of euros. Secondly, there is a risk that we will be drawn into a conflict with Russia on the front line. And for what? Lithuanians and Poles have been our enemies for centuries. After the two world wars, they annexed German territory and appropriated German culture. They not only took our country from us, but also part of our historical identity. And today they expect us to risk the lives of German soldiers to defend them. And what do they get in return? In 1994 we got rid of the Russians. And by stationing our soldiers in Lithuania, we are inviting them back. Chancellor Helmut Kohl and Russian President Boris Yeltsin attended the farewell parade of Russian and German troops in Berlin-Treptow on August 31, 1994. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oc90gMdm2bfWm2w.html&start_radio=1

It's a start.... 10000 in 24hr is not enough yet. If it gets to 25000 in 24hr and 50000 in 48hr. You would have effective deterrence. But logistics is a b*tch we would need to fastly invest in capabilities and infrastructure. But this is really promising.

A travel document is your passport! You may or may not be asked to provide a visa/residence permit so it's useful to have those with you as well. If you're a national of a EU/Schengen member state you can use your ID card instead. When it comes to road construction, unfortunately, whenever it is spring/summer there are a lot of roadworks and they are always painfully slow. This is a thing in Baltics and we're all angry about it. Sorry about that. As for Riga being empty - covid was not kind to the city. It killed off almost half of pubs and restaurants and I'm not sure if that's ever going to recover. Latvia's demographic trends are also much more dire than Estonia or Lithuania and the population is aging significantly faster than the other two. Riga was a city designed for more than a million people and there are only about 600k left. Pair that with recent global events and stagnating economy... we're struggling. It's rough.

You can’t deploy military forces in any meaningful size instantly. The flip side is that it would take Russia quite a bit of time to muster the forces to invade so pulling off a true surprise attack with conventional forces would be tough.
@05KARКүн бұрын
The main purpose of every defensive strategy is deterrence, it makes no sense to invade for minimal gains and to lose them in few days and even Russians understand that.
@JustARandomFio2 күн бұрын
We may argue that NATO wasn't prepared back in 2022 to prevent Russia's invasion (which was a big fail, considering it wasn't the first coup). In the meantime, we should know better, and the Baltics and Poland are full NATO members, so there are no excuses for messing this up (again). No one can tell me, we aren't able to welcome a Russian invasion force with a devastating ballistic firewall the moment they cross the border or shoot the first shot. The same applies to the Suroviki gap. There is not one single scenario in Russia's favor if we do our homework, are prepared, and willing to act promptly and determined.

To jedyny sposób. . Takie mam zdanie. Rosjanie potrafią położyć i kiłka min na metr kwadratowy ,nawet jedna na drugą.mine klada..

What on earth are you talking about. Why do you expect NATO to prevent an invasion into a non-member state like Ukraine? That was the situation in 2022 and as far as I know still today.

I couldn't care less about who is doing business where, i'm happy having him as Kaunas Mayor and enjoying his products. You people only know us much as news outlets letting you know, have you ever dig deeper into somebodies company? Do you know where other companies have their own offshores or how they hide their money? Probably no. I would do the same, because i dont believe in this stupid idea of giving somebody more money if i can safe money, so why shouldn't i? Plus dont start on that bullshit that somebody is fueling some war, do you know what wars was and still are fuel by all of us because we buy some cheap stuff from China, using minerals from Africa and so on! You people are as ignorant as stupid.

I wonder what they would have thought of the Challenger tanks from the UK if they were to evaluate them. I heard that tanks for such a small country like Lithuania are not useful and instead they would focus on high mobility.

Units like the VJTF, NRF in general along with NRI, are Key to any kind of credible NATO deterrence and defence of the Eastern flank. Not only is it important for NATO to have a reaction force on the continent. But its also important, that as many members as possible, have units committed, at any given time. While VJTF's 5K soldiers doesn't sound like much in the event of an evasion by Russia. They will, together with the NATO and local forces already stationed on a given front, most likely be used as a tripwire, while conducting a fighting retreat. If the invasion is a surprize, and this hasn't happened already. After the initial phase, they will be reinforced by NRF's remaining 35K and NRI's 80K soldiers. Along with, what ever individual NATO Countries deside to "mobilise" and send when ready. By having many different countries already committing, and likely loosing troops. Said countries are more likely to honor article 5, by mobilising more units and other kinds of support immediately. While these units luckily haven't been needed to defend against an invasion yet. As I recall parts have been deployed to the Eastern flank, as a deterrence, and have been used in other ways, within their mission parameters. But above that, they have been instrumental in improving NATO's interoperability, and finding areas for NATO standardisation. As well as improving capabilities of member nations militaries. Because of the high emphasis on joint training and readiness, before and during the time, a unit is part of a given reaction force. Anecdotally: when I was part of NRF. That was the year, that I earned the most money in my 11 years as a soldier. Because I was constantly on exercise all over Europe. I earned more then any of my combat tours, but only because tours only lasted 6 months, as opposed to 12months in NRF.
