As a born and raised North Carolinian of 52 years in Charlotte, I am so upset that our genteel hospitality and courteousness of the South is rapidly disappearing with not only the younger generation but I feel the influx of so many folks from all over the US and the world who obviously never learned to be considerate of others or are just brusque and rude! There’s no balance at all now and no time for them to adapt to our ways it seems.

Unforyunately that mentality comes from the movement that we can do everything ourselves and holding doors or jackets are just showing that you are not capable of doing it yourself. Feminism I guess its called. So we all forget politeness. I think a lot are not taught empathy or seeing when somebody needs help either. I loved california snd I think one can adapt so quickly to that assuming that you want to integrate. Those that dont want to integrate dont appreciate either. Thats at least what i think.

I am 70 years old and a life long resident of North Carolina. I remember, as a child, how humble and kind people were. Granted, I was born, and have always lived, in a rural setting, and have never lived in a town, much less a city. Country folks are generally less aggressive than most of their city counterparts, but I’ve noticed in the past few years, even us “country bumpkins” are becoming more aggressive and rude. I think this is due, mainly, to all the people with “attitudes” who have invaded our state in the last few years! I say, if you’re thinking of moving here with an attitude, stay put! We don’t need any more ATTITUDE here!

I moved from New York to Georgia in 1974 with my family. I remember it as the people being like salt of the earth, everybody had a vegetable garden in their yard. I thought most people were kind and good people. I've been in North Carolina for about 20 years now. I hate the politics going on but that's Nationwide, not just North Carolina.

I have lived in NC since 1995. I can confirm some of this. The power outages are not that bad at all. I live in Raleigh and I only had a few very minor ones (comes back within a couple of hours), except for a big ice storm in the late 1990s. I lost power for two days. In comparison to many other states, this is not a problem at all. I really love it here and will most definitely never move from Raleigh.

Compared to areas with wildfires and weekly race riots or weekend shootings in double digits bad weather is much less of a issue. Those that move here should leave what they fled behind. Don't bring that here please. Remember why you left and try to adapt. If you miss the afternoon drive by shootings we have a few areas that may make you feel like home.

@blikewat3r

@@genox3636 progress is good. Unfortunately what people from CA describe as progressive is often regressive as it plays out in the real world. That's why despite all it's beauty, people flee CA in droves. Same happened in NY (where I'm from). It's important that we recognize what makes a state beautiful and attractive is it's own UNIQUE culture. Embracing diversity of thought is progressive. Trying to change a culture is not.

I been in NC since October 2020 walking around town masked up felt like a ghost town living and working in the mountains. I use to live in Memphis TN literally the heart of the Mid South. So you could say I kinda expected Southern Hospitality, but when I moved over here it seemed like a different story sometimes walking can get you run over. Just like ma said you should look both ways before crossing the road twice if not thrice. Generally MOST drivers will stop for people including wildlife. I seen a few folx stop their car to wait for rabbits and raccoons to cross the street. I actually love it here, because of it being wayyy cooler and less humid aside from people being just as nice (for my personal experiences). I help run a Bed and Breakfast with my mom. And we love everything about it!

During an outage, if you can't get a generator, there are also different sized Plug'n'Play battery units of various wattage. It at least can run your devices so you can stay up to date with the outside world. I can use my 240 Jackery (with a small solar panel to charge it up when it's sunny outside) if we ever have an outage of any significance in the Flat Rock, NC area. My size Jackery won't do much for larger appliances, but I'm glad to have it handy. Bluetti is another recommended brand. And they are great for dry camping!

Great video. My father is from NC and I was raised there and visited all of my life. I decided in April to sale my home in the DC/MD area and come home to the beautiful green, southern hospitality state of NC. I was sick from April until now. I came back to MD after 3 ER visits in NC due to bronchitis, post nasal drip and serve sinus infections. I'm now diagnosed with adult onset asthma so you're right on about the allergies. I'm still so happy I came to NC to live. I love the lush greenery and the arces I have and my neighbor's home is not on top of mine like it was living in a metropolitan city. My dogs and I love it and wouldn't want to be back in DC or MD. I've only had experience with very kind people in NC my entire childhood into adulthood thankfully. I know rudeness is everywhere but I've never had a bad encounter in NC and hope it stays that way. DC was a daily dose of rude jerks on the road, in the stores, etc etc. I love the little Mayberry town I'm in. So peaceful and serene.

Dini J You are the sweetest most eloquent person. Your parents raised you right. And I’m so glad you love the state you visited so much growing up enough to make it your always home later in your life. People like you understand the true blessings that come with our state and although nowhere is perfect (HUMIDITY, BUGS, storms, and allergens) NC has so much that is inviting and soothing to many. And I say welcome home, come on in and sit a spell to all -but can’t they all be like you are hon and RESPECT that which you’ve been given or that which you have chosen, lol? And as it’s one’s new home try to treat others with similar respect. That means don’t act a fool when driving or expect this state or city to be like where one came from, there was a reason y’all left right? Just take lots of allergy meds year round and hopefully in time you’ll adjust. Wish you all the best in your new life here in “Mayberry”.🙏🏻🥰

I’m in Ohio but a southern girl at heart. My mom was born and raised down south, I spent my summers in Clarkrange Tennessee at our annual family reunions. I’d love to move to north or South Carolina- I miss the southern hospitality and I wouldn’t be a newcomer burdening with rudeness ❤ I also hate the long Ohio winters😢 I can’t wait to save enough money to move! I want to be in the country but close to shopping. A small town vibe. I’d love to be by the beach but somewhere maybe an hour or two from Carowinds and an hour from the ocean would be perfect ❤ I’m married with 3 kids, one on the way, with a bunch of cats and 2 dogs 😂❤ need somewhere family and animal friendly

@Jamie Bryant. Ooh that ain’t a lie!! I’ve gotten bit or stung rather in my two feet about 50 times over the last 2 weeks before I realized their main “highway” was right where we park and get out of the car in the gravel driveway. Now I’m scared to even try to get to the car. It was the worst the last time, big sores developed worse than blisters like ulcerations and very red and they had to be popped (as fire ants stings will have to be), but several times, over several days. And made me feel sick systemically but not truly allergic. Like many wasps stings from the venom but not truly anaphylactic response. So I think the dang things are changing. Maybe the species? Maybe mutating? Worse than when I was stung in the Texas desert where they supposedly came from.

For sure in central NC and as I understand it, the entire state. Unless you are a doctor, lawyer, highly placed in big tech, drug research or a college professor the pay is so low it's insulting, and so will the treatment be you get as an employee. As a "right to work state" one has no protection from an abusive employer. Benefits simply don't exist. The unemployment payments are nearly the lowest in the COUNTRY and the duration of payments is at the bottom of the list also. North Carolina "Business Plan": A. Pay well under a living wage, abuse your workers and provide zero benefits. B. Live large on ALL the profits! In addition housing of any kind is skyrocketing! Prices something like up 20% in a year. Ya'll com'on down!
