The rules vary from state to state in Australia, they are mostly no nonsense though. Stuff like character and name limit, no swears, no descriptions of lewd acts, no slurs, no symbols without phonetic significance. Also can't resemble an official rank or title, stuff like King or Doctor. They are always breeding better idiots though, can't make broad rules that will catch everything.

My dad, who would have been 89 now, was named Richard and went by Dick. In the early 70s when my brother (also named Richard, but went by Richie and then Rich) was around 8, 9, 10-ish, my dad would introduce himself to people by saying, "I'm big Dick, this is little Dick." My mom was mortified! Back then, us kids really didn't say dick as often as people do now... it was considered very rude cussing. I really didn't start using it until my dad died in '96 when I was an adult! I felt like it was okay then haha!

I asked her last name and found 2 records for students with her last name enrolled for summer term in A&S (Arts& Sciences). I saw that one of the first names had surely been mistyped (Viginer), so I asked, "Are you Ann or Virginia, and I will need to see your ID. " Clearly, she took high umbrage, because she straightened her shoulders and told me rather coldly and loudly, "My name is NOT Virginia. It's Viginer! " which she pronounced with the first "i" short and the second one long, sounding very much like Vagina said with a Boston accent, with "A"s often pronounced "er". It was all I could do to keep a straight face while I apologized for my mistake as I watched heads turn in our direction throughout the room with hands over their mouths to keep from laughing aloud.

Considering the names covered in this podcast video, I feel these three examples are pretty tame. To be fair Lucifer is an actual name and the has the meaning of 'bringer of light' 🤷🏼‍♀️

The National Hockey League here in North America holds a handful of outdoor games each season and usually bring in military vets or servicemen from the US and Canada to do their National Anthems. I remember a handful of years ago in Lake Placid, Sgt. Dusty Gooch got the nod for the US anthem and twitter was having a time with it

Back in high school there was a kid named Benjamin who went by Ben, and unfortunately his last name was Dover. I remember during one of my classes he got called down to the office over the intercom, "Can Ben Dover please come to the office." I'm pretty sure it was after that he started going by his full name.

Best story I have about bad names. My mom was a nurse, had all sorts, but this was just epic. She walks into a room with a young boy and reads the chart. His name is listed as GeorgeMichael. All run together like that. So she asks about what GeorgeMichael is here for today. The kid's mom rolls her eyes. My mom says "Oh, sorry, is that not how your pronounce it?". The kid's mom sighs and says, "The George is silent!".

In my rural USA Bible belt area high school our US style football coach was named Coach Buts and Coach Self. And coach Self’s first name was Jackson. Not lying, no one else’s story that I heard of. Literally, we had school announcements over the intercom telling Jack Self he has a call.

I had a teacher in school called Mrs Porker. And she was very large and had very pink skin. She was relentlessly tortured for it, so in the end she asked all the students to call her Miss Maryanne, which was her first name. I felt really sorry for her.
