Thanks for this, this is a really fascinating comment!!! I’m not in any way saying you’re wrong, but do you think there’s a potential that in some perfumes it is, in fact, not maceration but various top (and potentially heart) notes evaporating and revealing the richer notes underneath? So less about being stronger, but more that they’ve been uncovered and therefore feel more pronounced? 🤔 Curious to know what you think!

@@fiole. oh that is totally possible. I am certainly no expert 😅 With my vanillas they tend to get darker too (I assume that is the ‘vanilla absolue’ ?), and of course when my fragrances have gotten “stronger” or “deeper” it correlates with my usage of them (juice to oxygen ratio in bottle is flipped). So there must be an oxidation/evaporation component? Truth be told I have never really thought about the evaporation of top notes within the flacon…but I suppose that would happen, just as it does during wear… Either way, it makes the “journey” of my fragrances fun! The only time I’ve had perfume go off is when I (ignorantly in my youth) left bottles on my vanity in direct sunlight/heat for two years 🤪 Edit: I should add, I have purchased full bottles of fragrance that were so flat and boring upon arrival (after waiting a few days for them to settle after travel, of course) that I tried to (unsuccessfully) sell them. But after sitting in the back of my closet for a year they had developed into something wonderful. I suppose that would be maceration ? (Micallef Note Vanillée was the culprit)
