After listening to this review, I wanna see a movie about Olivia Colman the bearded lizard wreaking havoc on the boring rich kids in that high school. "Where are the adults?" The 25+ yr. old teenagers in this movie are the adults 😂Thank you for your critiques including Maya Hawke's wig!

I agree with this review..the movie was a huge disappointment. You can literally feel them trying to capture the tone of Cruel Intentions, and even Heathers & Mean Girls. But it falls completely flat because the script isn't clever enough, and the casting wasn't that great either. I did like a lot of Drea's outfits, but I wish they found a way to make it look more DIY because they don't sell the "poor" narrative well. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I thought you were saying Andrea Zuckerman because she was like 30 playing a teen just like Camilla in this lol. Great review. It definitely felt like an attempt at creating a modern version of Heathers, Clueless and Cruel Intentions, with some Mean Girls thrown in, but it was too poorly written to work and ended up feeling completely unoriginal because of it. The references were too dated for gen z and it felt like the writers were totally out of touch with this generation. Love you two and thanks for all you do ❤️

Humm fair points but I think some of it comes down to what highschool is like for a girl Having your sex tape leaked is humiliating and for someone who has immaculately carved her way up the social ladder with a big ego this is a huge blow. It could ruin her social life because max wanted to take her down and what he says goes. Elenor’s problem wasn’t completely about being outed. They addressed that. The rumour implied that she forced herself on another girl. So that made all the people shun her and the lesbian community shy away. All these things have a profound hit when you’re that age Also bullies have a short term memory. My bullies didn’t even remember what they did to me the year before

What a great review guys! I literally jusr finished the movie expecting so much more and it was quite disappointing. The ammount of cliches it has is kinda exhausting, it took a lot of me to finish the whole thing lol it just felt very predictable and dumb. And the final scene did annoy me so much, Eleanor was standing kinda like behind Max when he confesses but then they got a perfectly good front shot, and they play it at the party for like 3 seconds with Max yelling over it, but that was enough time for the whole school to hate him? UGH such a stupid ending. What a bad movie lol I did enjoy a few moments and some of the actors are great but the writing is not it

Yes, it was not good. I kept wondering throughout the movie why the actress who played Eleanor had a career because I found her quite unappealing to look at, but then I found out who her parents were. Nepotism in Hollywood strikes again.

@@docsnake yes, her parents are Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke. I actually don't hate her acting, I think she can be good but so far she always kinda plays the same character... At least she acknowledges her opportunities come from her parents and seems grateful for it, unlike other nepo babies.

I drank like two glasses of wine while watching this and enjoyed the first 2/3’s before it went off the damn deep end. What really stuck with me were a couple of references that I understood as a millennial, but if I were Gen Z? I forget the first reference (because alcohol), but I remember when they referenced Schoolhouse Rock because it was so jarring to me. That shit was old when I was a kid! I’m bummed because I have been craving some fun, chick flick, Sex and the City/Mean Girl-esque watches. If you have any recs, I’d love them!

it made more sense on second viewing. when i first watched it, i was rooting for camilla's character so much and i didn't understand how she had to go threw all of that i not ONE person was on her side. but then watching it again, it was clear how much a a selfish narcissist she was, but it still didn't make sense that teat after EVERYTHING they still forgave each other in the end. i didn't mind "the twist" it was more everything else that came after it , that was just a bit too much. but it's a good movie. it's basically just a bunch of bad people and learning nothing along the way 😄 It was a FUN ride. the jokes was usually funny. the voice overs were great! the acting was great. Camilla was BORN to play this role. and it looked stunning. the fashion was great. the locations and the music. great fun! Best chick flick i have watched in a long while! 💜

Maybe I’ll sound stupid with this question. But when you were talking about the music and maybe a 40 year old something wrote this etc. and I know I don’t know any script writers but do they not do research and maybe interview students and get a young perspective before writing scripts and teen movies. Just wondering. And maybe writers do. Maybe not this one.

Here’s the thing about most teen movies for me. I’m not the target audience but I’ll watch them and they’re fine. But only a few like Clueless, Mean Girls, 10 Things I Hate About You, etc are actually good and rewatchable as an adult.

It’s definitely a real fear for a girl’s reputation to be destroyed by a leaked video in high school. Still. The lesbian stuff is harder to believe since LGBTQIA+ clubs and stuff are more normalized now. I wonder if this is current? Maybe if this were in the 90’s.

The movie is certainly a lot but if you look at the decisions through a teenage girl’s perspective it’s believable…once I realized it was a tribute to 90’s teen movies I did that and it instantly got less ridiculous to me.

I’m confused by this review. Did we watch the same movie? I feel like all of the points you made were addressed. They explain that in high school, girls get disproportionate hate for even minor infractions but cis men get off with little to no punishment. They explain that in HS, teenagers don’t always think rationally. They show you the problems of women not believing women and falling into the patriarchy. They also mention that they grew up on 90s teen movies which explains some of the music. I just feel like this was a pretty fun movie and it had a few errors but for the most point it actually was more poignant than I thought it would be. It addresses patriarchy, female friendships, the differences in backlash for straight cis gendered white boys and the rest of the world, and how characters can be flawed but it might not justify all of the hate that they get. I usually enjoy your reviews but this one didn’t hit the mark.
