Like many have already commented, the actress playing Mookie's sister is Spike Lee's real-life sister Joie (which is simply French for Joy). Their brother Cinqué Lee is also an actor and movie director (you can see them playing twins in one of the vignettes from Jim Jarmusch's "Coffee and Cigarettes). The youngest in the family is David Lee, a "still photographer" (google that if you don't know what it is). As for their father, Bill Lee, he was a jazz bassist, and he composed the music for this movie and also for Spike's other movie Mo' Better Blues, starring Denzel Washington. Bill Lee passed away last year, in May. Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis we're the quintessential civil-rights era actors, considered close personal friends by Martin Luther King, Jr. They were featured on the LP "To Be A Slave", based of the "children's book" by Julius Lester. It was sampled by Vernon Reid on Living Colour's second album Time's Up. It took years to your humble French Canadian (Québécois) servant to find the original source of those samples.

I love this film one of my favorite Spike Lee films also y'all should check out mire Spike Lee joints "Malcolm X" "Get on the bus" Da 5 bloods" "Red hook summer" also in Red hook summer you'll see something very interesting from this film.

I always thought Mookie throwing the garbage can at the window channeled the rage of the crowd away from Sal and his sons. The building was sacrificed to save their lives. That was how I read it, anyway.

All I heard was ima hater an ion know what I’m talking about 🤷🏾‍♂️ cus drop a time stamp where we were lost because of a concept or situation that originated in the late 80s/early 90s. Really it’s not much to be lost about with this movie. The main concepts of this movie are still things we face today (race relations, global warming, police brutality, etc.) so what are you really talking about? Please show us? 🤔 Also to say we’re too young to be watching old school movies is stupid too because you don’t know how old we are lol. We might be 38 years old. 🤣🤷🏾‍♂️ You don’t know that cus you don’t know us and you was assuming shit, and you most likely too damn old to be assuming like big dog 😂👌🏾

@kickbacktv. I didn't write the original post but I kind of feel what they meant. I still appreciate you watching these old gems though. For me, you just don't understand the time and not really the environment as much as I thought you would. You kept asking about AC, lol! Mookie going home to take a shower in the middle of the day, tide men talking on the corner, and more nuanced stuff, He is supposed to be a late teen, early 20s guy. These are teens and young adults from the late 80s, early 90s. This had the feel of that time. And it just seemed like yall couldn't get there a lot of times but it's an edited video, so it's hard to judge, per se. Again, I still appreciate your reaction and hope you continue to venture down this road. Just when you watch, maybe try to take yourself out of 2024 and really look at it from the view of just learning what things were like then. Spike lee also has an unique vision. I call him the black Tarantino. To me they are the opposite sides of the same coin. They actually really dislike each other on reality. So spike may not be for you. I don't like all his movies but his vision is uniquely his. He has other movies set in the 70s like Crooklyn. I would be interested to see how yall responded to that.
