Training aggressive dogs are Tom Davis's specialty but is this dog actually aggressive? Tom travels to New Jersey to work with a family with a Golden Retriever dog with some aggression, anxiety, and fearful behavior. The family is afraid they might have to get rid of the dog or put the dog down because of his bad behavior.

@@jeffcoley668 I dont know why people do that honestly..My dog certainly isnt big, hes not small either..(hes a weird mix taken from a gypsy "settlement" by the local shelter. Theyre randomely mixed for about 40 years now so some of them come out a bit retarded I must admit. Mine looks like a border collie with a bit shorter hair and colors of a jack russell despite having no russell in his genes aparently :D)...and actually I intentionally go to these bigger muscular dogs - they mostly run faster and longer so I dont have to run with him for 2 hours every day myself :D If its aggressive or anything the owner will give you hits on the way and theres nothing easier than just changing directions or keeping distance most of the time. Also I love how all these old people are scared of my dog because their little maltese is barking, we go near and they almost always shut up :D

This is one of your best videos yet, content and production wise. So many 'animal lovers' say you should never rehome any animal for every reason. That it's cruel. But what's cruel is keeping an animal to satisfy you ego and emotional needs when you can't give them what they need to thrive.

I mean yes, but golden retrievers have long been known to have some issues with explosive, "sudden" aggression. Sudden aggression in terms that they are often known to not go through the overt progression of aggressive signaling that average people would look for to avoid a bite - think the opposite of rottweilers. This is an issues spanning over a decade already. I know people who work in veterinary practice, and all of them have been bitten by goldens, some really savagely. You cant even say the same of classically "aggressive" stereotyped breeds. Golden retrievers have also topped various bite statistics over the last decade +, but have managed to mostly fly under the radar of people who are fanatically afraid of "aggressive breeds". Golden breeders are also aware of this issue, and note that sport variety goldens seem not to have this issue.
@sportysbusiness
@sportysbusiness 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheBurrito171 Alternatively, golden are owned by people who don't train them properly or don't know how to look for the signs that the dog isn't happy. No dog explodes with sudden aggression. All dogs give signals, most people just aren't aware. No bad dogs.
@TheBurrito171
@TheBurrito171 2 жыл бұрын
@@sportysbusiness yes and no. "No bad dogs" doesnt mean that breeds or individuals cant have some issues or problematic genetic tendencies. Ive seen goldens on their 4th or 5th home, doing things that would get any mastiff or bully euthanized. I've seen goldens that will go straight from "Im a bit uncomfortable" to a bite. The one universal guarantee is that people will always walk circles to make excuses and deny that the dog has any issue , just because it is a golden retriever.
@maargenbx1454
@maargenbx1454 2 жыл бұрын
@@sportysbusiness Since adopting my AmStaff 4.5 years ago I’ve been reading a lot of pros and cons about “pit bull” type dogs. One claim I’ve seen pretty often is that these dogs “lie”- they act friendly, then attack. People who say this actually make it seem “pit bulls” purposely fool people in order to facilitate attacks. Then I noticed something else, irl and here on KZfaq: any time a dog wags it’s tail people react as if this means the dog is happy and friendly. They don’t understand that dogs wag their tail when they’re excited, when they’re submissive, when they’re friendly, when they’re agitated, etc. So it’s not that”pit bulls lie”, it’s that people really don’t understand dogs all that well. Dogs are more and more popular, but that also means more dogs are with people who don’t know best practices in dog training and stewardship.

I'm a fellow dog trainer with the same type of mentality and methods as you (why I love your channel!) and have been a trainer basically my entire life. I also worked at a county shelter for many years as a vet tech and eventually an ACO. The ONLY dog I have ever been bitten by, other than chihuahuas that haven't done any real damage, was a golden retriever. I was only 7 years old and he basically ran the neighborhood terrorizing everyone. No one ever did anything though because none of us blamed the dog...he was HORRIBLY abused by his owners and all of us felt bad for him. He did so much damage to me that I still have nasty scars 30 years later. He helped fuel my love of dogs and wanting to help as many as I can. RIP Woody

I just wanted to let you know that you are the reason why I adopted my dog. I took it as a challenge to learn more about dogs and their behavior but I received so much more than that. I'm completely amazed as to what I was able to achieve and what my doggo achieved and I just wanted to say thank you. I literally watched so many of your videos and realized that a ton of people lack the knowledge of understanding dogs due to their own ignorance or lack of understanding of what it means to train your/a dog. I ended up buying your E collar as well and am amazed by how effective it is and how minimal the levels are actually used to get your dogs attention when off leash, and for vocal command training especially when my doggo isn't a foody. Please keep the videos going and thank you again!! For anyone reading this, I highly recommend Tom Davis's 280C E collar, literally amazing and definitely worth the price.

My bernese/great Pyrenees mix (125 lbs) started guarding us from my boyfriend's husky (both male) and I was scared they would start fighting badly as things seemed to be escalating. I've worked hard on training them both together (as well as separately) using tips from your videos. I think my big guy sees that I also have control of the husky now and he doesn't need to jump in. He still likes to keep himself physically between the husky and my youngest son now and then, but the growling, barking and charging has stopped, and we all live peacefully with our big family. They will both sit, stay, and come when called almost in perfect unison. It is so rewarding to see!

This video is just what I needed. We used to have a black lab puppy named Cinder who had so much energy and pulled so hard it was painful to try to walk her on leash. She completely ignored my every attempt to train her or even get eye contact from her and every time I tried to work with her my anger and frustration was causing her to act completely crazy. My next door neighbor walked her with no problem and that is when I decided to find her a new home. I felt so guilty and defeated when I gave her away to a facebook acquaintance but felt a little better to see she is doing well as a emotional support pet for an autistic teen. Apparently she listens to him just fine. I found a wonderful senior GSD that has been a great dog for me and I have been learning about training her from videos like this but she is mellow and even without training she is easy to be with. Now I have added a Chihuahua who is a sweet lap dog and adores her big sister. It was so nice to hear Tom explain why it was ok to let Monty go to another home and it helps me feel better about "giving up" on Cinder. In the end she had a much better life than she would have had with me.

This family showed they are GREAT dog owners. Sometimes rehoming the pet is SO hard but in the end, it is about the welling being of the animal, not the well being of yourself. I've been there, and I am proud of these owners. I know how hard it is to make that decision.

Major props to this owner for putting in the hard work and also for putting the puppy's well-being before her own emotions. That's an extremely difficult decision and I have nothing but respect for her. She and her Golden are going to continue to strengthen their relationship and it's going to blossom! I appreciate her sharing her story and decision with the possibility of receiving flak for it! P.S. Video quality and editing continues to keep getting better and better!

Good for her for realizing what was best for both her dogs! As sad as it is to let one go; she is thinking about the best interest of both dogs!🙌🙌❤️ You can see just how happy Milo was to actually go for a walk! Amazing work as usual! Keep up the great work. ❤️❤️

Trained my puppy from the 3rd day when I got her being 8 weeks old. That meant structured socialization (people, kids, noises, dogs young and old friendly and not so friendly, cars,trains,restaurants, etc) and we did 3-5 sets of training every day, each about 5 min long. Also every walk had free fun and training elements. It was a ton of work and taught me a lot on how to stay clear and calm BUT the success and easy going life with my dog for 6,5 years now was worth every minute and every struggle and setback on the way. So at the age of 7 months I had a perfect dog that can be off leash 95% of the time and we had very little "youngster" issues when she got into her rebellious teenager phase.

Simply amazing..... Cried with the owner when she talked about how great the dog is doing now. THIS is responsible ownership.... Admit defeat, get help, put in the work, and recognize when re-homing is needed. ❤️

What the owner did for the puppy is AWESOME!! She actually put the pup needs and wants in front of her own, it takes a lot for a owner to come to the conclusion she did. The puppy is gonna have a great life b/c she put the pup needs first!

Hi Tom, Never thought Goldens could be that aggressive, and they'd always be friendly and playful. But end of the day, its not the dog, its the owner. No Bad dogs! 🙌

The dog looks extremely nervous and scared of strangers and a scared dog is equally as dangerous as an aggressive dog.

Restructuring your thinking and your home for a dog is a hard. Doing so for two dogs in different mental states that are coexisting is even harder. I’m glad they recognized those challenges and their own abilities and that all involved are better for it. Hopefully they are able to keep up with training and keep their dog engaged in their home life. Great work helping them out.

I recently had to give up a labradoodle. I truly loved her though she was abit crazy lol. However, my husband hated her. I have always trained all my dogs. But she was one of my greatest challenges. She was a lovable playful "lapdop" but she had some serious issues with fear of EVERYTHING that caused her to constantly cower and try to flee every situation. I worked with trainers, etc. It turns out she did much better with other dogs. They made her feel secure. But I couldn't have a second dog. I was able to find her a home with another dog that really suited her and she's so much more happier. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do and to this day there are people who criticize my decision.

Adopted a two year old German Shepherd a month ago from a local no-kill shelter. He was a transfer from a county shelter south of us. In the three months they had him locally, he had not one visitor. These challenges will lead to a rewarding victory. Long way of saying, this is best video I have seen by you in my consistent search to help myself to in return help him. Thank you, sincerely.

I don't need the music and the nachos- I am not watching a reality show. I am watching to see problematic dog behavior, hear your assessment, and observe the training activity and progress. The rest is fluff that is a waste of time. Maybe its just me, but the more dog and trainer the better. Your results are phenomenal.

This is my favorite video, Tom. I applaud you for your keen sense of knowing innately how to "become" the dog and feel what he feels by his body language. You are gifted and you demonstrate all that it takes is trust and letting the dog know what you expect of him. Loved this video and how truly grateful you made this woman feel with your expertise. ✝️🙏💫❤⚘🐶🐶❤⭐
