Hello makers. Learn about how to make paper and foam mockups for your armor and cosplay projects. Welcome to this video on how to make foam mockups for cosplay and crafting armor. If you're new to armor or cosplay, creating a paper mock-up is a great way to practice the assembly of a build and allows for greater flexibility when sizing.

When making paper mock-ups for armor or cosplay projects, it's important to account for the difference in material thickness compared to leather. This will help you to create an accurate pattern that will fit well once it's made from foam or leather.
Using a heat gun can add more shape to foam pieces. You can use the heat gun to soften the foam and then shape it with your hands or over a form. This can be particularly helpful when working on curved or complex shapes.
Using paper and foam mockups can be a great way to confirm fit and practice assembly before making a finished product for armor and cosplay projects. This will help you to identify any issues with the design and ensure that the final product is comfortable to wear and looks great.
When making prototypes and testing fit before final assembly, using paper fasteners or brads can be a helpful tool. This will allow you to make adjustments easily without having to disassemble the entire piece.
Overall, making foam mock-ups for cosplay and crafting armor can be a rewarding and fun process. By following these tips, you'll be able to create accurate and comfortable pieces that will look great and make you stand out at your next cosplay event.

Foam mockup is the single most useful advice that I give to anyone making their own patterns for leather. Foam comes in similar thicknesses as leather, it can be shaped just like leather (using heat rather than wetforming), and it is extremely cheap. Any waste can be cut to size for use as padding or shredded in a food processor for use as filling material. I find it especially useful when testing pattern pieces that need to be formed. If you mess up while forming the foam, you can just heat up the whole piece again and it will go back to flat and you can try again once it cools.

That was cool and your designs are amazing, also liked how the legs of the rivets on the foam model were lined up, going straight and parallel to the seam, this attention to detail even it is just a test model is beyond words

I've been wanting to see an armor build of your patterns using EVA foam! I think to bevel the edges you'd use a rotary tool with a nearly smooth cylinder sander. This also opens up different options for attaching layers i.e. contact adhesive vs rivets!

I did this same process when making my first suit of armor. Gonna be doing this again when i attempt the imperial knight armor suit in metal once i finish up some other projects. I need to get better with dremel engraving to see if i can do some "Shading" type effects with the decorative borders to add more detail.

Jw if u don't have any rivets could u use those little brass folder pins
@kalamir93
@kalamir93 2 жыл бұрын
Honestly, rivets are quite cheap. I'm not the biggest fan of them, because imho sewing is superior. Regarding your question - I wouldn't use these pins for the final assembly. They are too bendable and will loosen. The only place I could imagine them would be as decorative studs, while the leather itself is glued/sewn together with a back piece.
