you're certainly correct about the need to keep the left arm straight, but the wrists and arms also have to be very loose and relaxed if there's going to be a body driven golf swing. a light grip on the club is also a very good facilitator of this type of swing.

Excellent video Giles on how to attain a "body driven golf swing!" As a "experienced" golfer, I do, at times, have trouble in getting width in my swing. I don't collapse, but my trouble mostly is in not taking my arms back over my shoulders enough. When I do accomplish a wider swing, I am able to generate a lot more power and distance. I like your recommendation of the rubber band drill and will definitely use this in my practice sessions. Well Done Giles!

Checked out some videos of my swing. Indeed, I am collapsing my arms at the top of the backswing, which I never noticed before, until watching thus video made me look & see. Definitely something to work on during the winter with a band as you suggest. Another thing I noticed is that perhaps I should have my lead shoulder more up under my chin than it is now. Thoughts Giles?

Question - I noticed at the top of your backswing the resistence band runs up the inside of your right arm. When I started doing this I always got the band stuck behind my right arm - didn't matter if I had the band really high up on my back or lower down (yours looks to be mid back at highest). In order for me to get the band in front of my right arm it almost feels like my right elbow is sticking out too far but maybe it should? I hope that makes sense. Maybe I've had a swing problem with keeping my right elbow too tucked for all these years! Love the drill just trying to make sure I'm doing it right!

Arms have to work independently from the body because they have a longer distance to travel. Slicers and chicken wingers have their body and arms going with a same speed.

Not true. Arms do have further to travel but the naturally travel faster. Chicken wing always happens from a lack of rotation

Why would focussing on keeping your arms wide promote a body driven golf swing? I could go from wide to wide without moving my body at all. You are making the body turn because you are used to doing so. Not because the band is forcing you
@Gilesgillgolf
@Gilesgillgolf 9 ай бұрын
No you can’t. If you maintain width the only way you can complete your swing is to turn. Do the band drill, keep your arms wide and complete your swing without turning. It’s impossible.
