OMAD keeps me from snacking and overeating. I can still overdo it in my one meal though, so if I ate more than one meal, I would be much more likely to overeat, twice the opportunity. OMAD is easy for me to stay on. And I am more than capable of eating all I need in that one meal. My issue is eating 'more' than I need in that one meal.

you are prob. doing yourself a fav. by OVEReating on occasion.... this was the point in Tom's message. Eating the same amount of cal. once a day and EVERY day, does your body a dis-service. When you vary your caloric intake (off and on) and (occasionally) spread it out within a 3-4 hr. window, you will get better results and prevent adaptation. So, even though eating 2 meals a day in a 4 hr. window isn't considered OMAD, --> mixing it up like that, will prevent adaptation.

I do OMAD, I eat my protein first, vegetable / salad last. I want to feel full on protein and fat to last me, rather than fill up on veggies that will digest in a few hours. In my eating window I'd rather be too full to eat my salad than too full on salad to eat my protein.

Thank you Thomas. I really love this new focus on the metabolic down-regulation as a result of calorie restriction over longer periods. Thanks for this great info. It validates what i learned through trial & error over the past few years. I have done a random version of IF that has given me complete freedom from the obsessive clutches of my sweet tooth. I wasnt at the obese level, but did omad on busy days when i just couldnt be bothered with food until bedtime. But i found that i could never get enough vegetables in. Omad days ended up being dense calorie food days. I need that big window of 6-8 hrs for all the fiber & micronutrient goodness of veggies. Being random helped my metabolism and the weight melted off so easily over the years that i never worry about it anymore. Im at maintenance level now and can pig out any time i want, stress free, knowing i have a "reset button" every morning when i wake up. Its heaven! I understand obese people need omad with veggie drinks more often than i did, but i encourage them to follow this advice and be more random. It may get you where you want to be quicker than you think ;)

I started watching Thomas a long time ago, around 4 or 5 years; he’s one of the reasons I started doing OMAD. Honestly, my weight baseline has come down 35 or 40 pounds and I pretty much just do OMAD most days of the year. I’ve found, for those of us who just like the way we feel, that calorie cycling a month or two (near the beginning of the year and toward the end) seems to help mitigate some of the slowdown you experience. Not just metabolically, but physically if you have prolonged periods of hypocaloric or low carbohydrate intake. And not promoting eating like crap, but frequently (say once every 2 weeks) just having a large calorie meal with higher carbs and fats (“dirty”) seems to make all the difference! Cheers!

Hi Thomas. Thank you for being such a bright light in the fasting and keto community! I fast ever day, more often than not 20-22 hours and then eat quite a bit early in the day. I never ever eat after noon because I feel the best that way and sleep like a rock! I'm down 60 pounds now, at a very healthy weight and BMI. I'd love to drop another 2-5 pounds, but am not at all focused on that. Maintenance is what I'm trying to figure out. Oh...I began counting backwards when I turned 50, so turned 31 in March! 🤣

Having nearly reached my goal weight, I find that doing OMAD more than 2 days in a row, leaves me depleted as well as set up for over eating by day three..I don’t follow a strict pattern, but usually eat once a day a few days a week, and eat twice on the other days. It’s working for me for now- so I will stick to this until it stops working. Thanks for the great content.

@speedyllama8380
@speedyllama8380 Жыл бұрын
If you feel depleted then there's something you aren't getting enough of. For example of your one meal a day is a large bowl of seasoned pasta with red sauce and garlic bread... There's no nutrition there. Maybe the red sauce has some vitamin C or something, but it's mostly garbage food. Where as if your one meal a day is a hearty cut ribeye paired with some eggs with cheese and fresh veggies... There will be every single vitamin or nutrient that you need except maybe iodine... Include a meal with fish once or twice a week and you'll get your iodine too. That's it. It's that simple. If you feel lethargic and depleted... It's your food choices, NOT the frequency that's the problem. You'll feel depleted regardless how often you eat if it's always garbage processed carbs devoid of nutrition.
@Julia-en9xq
@Julia-en9xq Жыл бұрын
@@speedyllama8380 Perhaps my post was unclear- the feeling of being depleted is because I just can’t eat enough calories in the one meal. I am mostly Carnivore, with a bit of veg now and then- but I just can’t eat enough in one sitting to cover all my caloric and nutrition needs. Two days of OMAD, followed by a day or two eating at least two big meals works best for me.

Exactly. Great advice. I restricted over last fall and winter trying various styles of fasting with calorie counting for -25lbs. Then I found I was getting mentally tired of it and was breaking my fast earlier than planned pretty often so I took a 4mo diet break eating whatever. I regained 10lbs as expected, but now I'm back at it having theoretically raised my metabolism and I'm down 7lbs in one month. I've cut out the cal counting this time and just doing OMAD on M and W, then a 40hr fast on F. MUCH easier for me. 20lbs to go!

I can't thank you enough for this!! I was on the ketogenic diet, then stopped losing, so I went to carnivore. Gained at first. Then starting counting calories. It worked,... so then I thought "Well evidently calories DO matter" I've heard so much conflicting advice from professionals (doctors who promote this WOE,...ETC), saying eating OMAD is best, but don't worry about calories(it got so frustrating!), then I think "Well eating small meals often works for bodybuilders [such as yourself] and they have zero visible fat! There must be something to it." I already knew that a human body can get used to anything though, so it went through my mind to shock it,....such as you're saying, which makes perfect sense, along with the restricting calories. Thank you for confirming this. It was so frustrating until now.

I have been OMAD for about 3 years. One of the best "resets" I have found with OMAD, is to eat as big breakfast or lunch and then fast until the next day at Dinner. That brings the stressors, and it keeps the meals coming each day. I find that skipping entire days of eating my digestion gets wonky. But, as long as I eat during each day, my digestion holds up.

@@KT-wr2ow I started at 200 and am now 160. I mostly lost the weight early on with 18/6 fasting. I keep the OMAD going to manage my blood sugar, and it just feels better and adds to my productivity. Something about not having to lose an hour each day eating lunch has really helped. I save a tone of money by not having to buy lunch everyday too. I’ve been eating 345 meals a years for the last 40 plus months, consistently never having more than one meal a day in a 20 to 70 minute average feeding window. Your concerns are super valid Thomas. Here’s how to bypass these concerns you have. Eat super foods daily. Minimum 70% great fats, about 50 to 75 grams of protein and less than 10% carbs. Because I eat extremely healthy every single day, I never encounter any issues as far as over eating etc. I eat anywhere from 1800 to 2300 calories in one long paced sitting. I start with probiotic foods and then I move on to clean protein such as eggs and I also have big green thick smoothies full of vegetables and super foods such as spirulina, chlorella, wheat grass, gotu kola, maca. I eat green bananas. I eat avocados about 5 or 6 days a week. I had been eating meat no more than 3 times a year. I consume Flaxseeds, chia seeds, hemp seeds , ginger, beets on a regular basis. No more than 10% of what I eat is processed. 4 to 6 daily table spoons of good oils. Extra-virgin, olive oil, macadamia oil, avocado oil, Walnut oil, MCT oil I eat alternative almond cheese, kefir once in awhile and no dairy besides eggs. I still enjoy Trader Joe’s desserts here and there at the end of my meals, but again, that is probably 1 to 3% of my monthly consumption. Point being, I understand that a lot of people will not be as disciplined as I am, but that if they are and they can be that it’s life-changing. I never have moments of hunger outside my feeding window, and if I do that is probably once or twice a year on average. Another aspect that makes it easier is the fact that I walk about 6 miles a day. I honestly think that the vast majority of the human race must wake up to the reality that we don’t need more than one meal a day. I actually still eat one meal a day because I enjoy it but if I eat only when I really needed to eat, I would probably eat every like 38 hours or 44 hours and because I don’t wanna eat once every other day, I still maintain just the amount of calories that I need so I won’t have any hunger until the next day. In short, after 40 months doing this, I know exactly how much I need to eat to make sure I will have zero hunger before I go to sleep every single day of my life. I eat breakfast most days, I break and finish my fast between 9 and 11 am, 85% of the days. 15% days I break the fast between noon and 3 pm and NEVER eat after 4:59 pm as a law, unless it’s a unique event, such as weddings etc, then I make that Lage meal the one meal of the day. Hit me up Thomas, you have so much knowledge, man, I think it would be eye opening you hear my perspective. In short, I believe humanity would benefit from only one meal a day every single day for their whole lives. It’s the most kick ass thing I’ve ever noticed. It’s changed my life completely. Massive cognition, massive peace of mind, better for meditation, for working out fasted, for my long walks, for contemplation, for prayer, for longevity, for clarity, for well being, for a practicality purpose, for savings, for an easier understanding of what I eat daily, since it’s just one single meal right their in your face. I don’t see myself ever going back to snacking or having 2 meals a day even. It’s just not what the gut biome is instructing the mind anymore. My biggest mindset secret is to think on pillar when eating. 1 - bring in the healthiest stuff first. So I have my Sauerkraut or kimchi, my 3 pasture raised scrambled eggs with ghee butter, my large avocado with turmeric and black pepper and lots of olive oil, and the. I have a big green smoothie, with a green banana, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, arugula, spinach, kale, spirulina, chlorella, ginger, beats, quality pea protein, colleges peptides. These are the pillars. Foods I start with before I even choose anything else I want to eat. Supplementations are quality omega 3 fish oil, magnesium, zinc, resceratrol, B12, D3+K2, boron trace minerals (this was your suggestion, Thomas), alpha lipoid acid, rishi mushroom I also consume cacao beans, cocoa powder and dark chocolate on regular basis. Fruits it’s maybe 50 to 100 grams a day maximum. Manly blueberries but also sometimes strawberries and mangos. All frozen and organic. Another pillar is nuts. Macadamia, walnuts, pecans, pine nuts, between 35 and 65 grams a day with quality organic mayo, turmeric, black pepper, and olive oil. Once I consume these pillars, ONLY THEN, I start looking to consider what I want to eat next. If it’s some processed cool thing at Trader Joe’s or some dessert. The vast majority of the days, there is nothing else I need to eat besides those things, and if I do, the. I eat WHATEVER I WANT, as long as my body doesn’t experience any decrease of well being after 5 minutes. I don’t buy bread, I don’t eat bread, maybe 5 to 8 pizzas a year. I never eat pasta anymore. And now even fish I had to cut down. Was eating salmon and mackerel but now my body doesn’t even need that, so I eat fish now only once a month on average. Hope all that helps and feel free to DM any time because I honestly think I can be of aid when it comes to indefinite one meal a day.

Great idea Thomas! I started OMAD 12 wks ago, knew it should not be long term, but also concerned how to stop without gaining weight back. My OMAD timing is not dinner but b/w 1-4pm, which made me think moving to 2MAD in 20:4 would be nice. Currently I also throw in 42 hrs fast once a week or every other week as the stresser. OMADEOD sounds brilliant to maintain the new weight, so thanks for an exit plan from my daily-OMAD.

How do you get hungry the next day after doing OMAD? I feel like I would have to fast for 36 hours & start at 7am in order to be hungry enough to eat all day long, or 3x a day. But then I wouldn’t be hungry until 7pm the following day & I’d have to wait 36 hours again to be hungry at 7am the day after the day after that lol. So an endless cycle of eating 3x a day, eating 1x a day, fasting 36 hours.

The thing that made me turn to OMAD, is that at some point the scale stopped moving and just stuck there, and even though I was reducing calories the scale was not budging for so long. I just felt I had to do something drastic and that continuing to reduce calories would become unsustainable. OMAD started working almost immediately. Slowly the scale started moving down. I immediately realized that I was in ketosis for about 16 to 18 hours a day and it all started to make sense. It’s still not easy but it’s not as stressful as before.

Look into reverse dieting for 3-6 months. Bring your metabolism back up. You'll regain small compared to the metabolic benefit, then lose faster when you switch back to restriction. I just did a 4mo diet break (eating ad infinitum). I regained 10lbs, but now that I've started restricting again, I am down 7lbs in a month. Reverse dieting employs slowly increasing intake to allow metabolic adaptation without a large weight regain because you're not creating a large calorie surplus while your metabolism is adjusting upwards. Can't recommend it enough!

I'm 6'4, 42yo. At my heaviest I was near 290. Started eating better/ exercising, got down to 200. Ended up gaining about 20lbs back over a 8 year period. Started IF, for the last year and have stayed between 190-200 consistently. Still drink alcohol on the weekends and usually break the fast sat/sun. I've attempted OMAD, but I find I miss eating in the social/enjoyment aspect. I could see only doing it every once in awhile (like once or twice a week). Kinda like what he's saying. I guess my advice would be, Don't forget to enjoy life through food and drink every once in awhile, don't turn this stuff into another addiction

I respect that you aren't discounting people's mental ability to adapt their diet. OMAD worked well for me for 2-3 weeks and then transitioned into a 20/4 with occasional 24 hours fasts. It's worked wonders for me, and mentally if I feel like I could start binging again I can chuck OMAD in for a week and mentally it seems to sort me out! Started at 290lbs, down to 238lbs and still dropping. Knowing the science behind it all really helps me understand why my diet is or isn't working! Sometimes science can't help what's happening upstairs, and if OMAD helps someone for a short period than I think it's still very valid! Brilliant channel!

Yea, this video was a big relief!! I stayed frustrated for about two weeks, trying to study all the available information, listening to different people who were professionals (doctors who actually DID their homework, promoting this WOE), saying conflicting things such as "Calories don't matter", "Calories DO matter", "Don't go over [this many grams] of protein", do this, do that. I realized that if someone is eating one meal per day, then they ARE restricting calories! Also, the bodybuilders that I personally know eat small meals, many times per day [opposed to OMAD], so I thought "Well there's SOMETHING to that!" I finally thought the same thing he just said, the human body can adapt to ANYTHING, so it's best if we keep it guessing. Yay! Maybe I can become a hard body again, as I was when I was young.

Saw this video linked on Reddit. Thank you- this is exactly the approach I am looking for. I did OMAD years ago, for years, and ended up with GERD and digestive issues. Since then I have been trying to eat less but always have a bulletproof coffee in the morning (I can't do black coffee or tea at all). Slowly the weight has crept up and I am less lean, due to eating lunch as I WFH. So, I am going to start OMADEOD, which will psychologically be easier than trying to eat less generally, and healthier for my system that OMAD!

I had to decrease my calories with keto OMAD because it caused weight gain. As a woman, it's really not hard to eat all my daily calories and nutrition in one meal. After four months, I've finally gotten used to OMAD even if I haven't seen any huge benefits other than it seems to even out emotions. Prior to this, I used to eat breakfast and lunch and skip dinner. My friend told me to do OMAD at dinner which goes against common sense, but I went with it because they were seeing amazing results. It hasn't made a difference with me physically, but to be honest, I get a lot more work done if I don't eat during the day. I tried doing OMAD every other day, but because I'm so used to waiting to eat... it sent me into binge mode, and I ended up eating double the amount of calories I normally do. It's very hard mentally (for me) to do it every other day.

I've started doing OMAD, and so far I'm completely amazed how much easier it is than other approaches I've taken in the past, like counting calories and 5:2 fasting. My life is busy and there simply is no better solution than this - you eat once, until you're satisfied, then you don't. Weirdly, I also find myself craving healthier food like green veg and leaving food on the plate when I'm full. At present I'm not doing keto, but it's something I intend to introduce along with OMAD when I feel ready. Keto does require more planning and it does mean you opt out of a lot in life, like enjoying meals at restaurants without having to construct your own meal out of the ingredients on the menu. Keto is not something I see myself doing forever but it is a tool I would use to change things up. When I either reach a healthy weight or start plateauing, I will certainly look at OMADEOD and maybe 2MAD just to keep my metabolism on its toes.

Calorie cycling works out the best long term for me, which involves only clean eating , then pause mid week. one day 1 meal, next day two, then 3 , then day 4 relax try to implement new smart decisions , ( Like a new fruit or what have you) then start all over again back to one meal. You can mix & match the days that suits your family life if you relax on Saturday / Sunday. You never have to miss out on anything you like because it's a balanced lifestyle without going overboard and your body won't be doing the same thing day in and day out.

Ive been fasting since 2017 and I believe there's a much better solution. I fast about 24hrs between meals. So if I break my fast at 8pm, my window to eat might be 1-2hrs of feeding. So from 8-10ish, I'll eat 2 or even 3 times. 24hrs later from the end of when I stopped might be 9pm or 10pm the next day. Repeat this and by the 3rd day my window has been pushed back pretty late in the evening, so I'll break my fast at perhaps 22 hrs the following day. Fast 5 days a week, and I do not fast on weekends. So I'm always floating around 22-24 hrs with the occasional 36 or 48 hrs fast(once or twice a month). I'm 6 foot and dropped from 234lbs(muscular with high body fat) to 185lbs. I lift weights 5 days a week and include cardio 3 of those days. I seem to maintain my muscle mass due to atophagy and a possible spike in human growth hormone. Either way, I'm 39 now and haven't lost any muscle despite fasting heavily through workouts. Hope this helps
