Strictly medicinals is where I have purchased most of my herb and medicinal seeds for years. They have great bundles of kitchen and medicinal herbs for someone starting out. Their germination rates are fantastic and I planted seeds from 2014 in last years garden with great success. Their catalog leaves a lot to be desired but it shows the company is not focused on marketing. Wonderful customer service too!

Lol, I was wondering if you were gonna mention roses! If I could only have one plant in my garden, it would be roses. They are by far one of the most versitile plants both medicinally & for aesthetic pleasure, and are so easy to care for. I've honestly been quite surprised at how infrequently they are mentioned on garden/herbal/homesteading ect. channels. Anyway, very helpful info all around! Will be saving to my library, thanks!🌹

I've got some new to me plants this year as well to expand my medicinal garden plants, and totally appreciate you mentioning the cold stratification process for some seeds! Especially for new gardeners, cold stratification is a new and unexpected process that is easy to miss. I have marshmallow and mullein seeds in my freezer and comfrey seeds in some damp vermiculite in the fridge. They will be ready to come out just in time for planting this year. But a couple years ago I tried planting marshmallow without cold stratifying and used an entire packet of seeds with zero luck before I realized my mistake. Gardening is definitely a continuous learning process!

Hi Melissa I would just like to mention two of my favourite plants which happen to be deer proof and edible for us they are Autumn sage of which I have four different colours courtesy of local parks and gardens there was a sign that said don't pick flowers well I just wanted some stems 🙃 we don't have deer roaming Christchurch and I think the flavour is too strong to eat but the kids can't stop picking the flowers and sucking the nectar of the back they flower predominantly summer and autumn into winter here and are mostly evergreen and Hibiscus syriacus obtained in similar fashion the leaves are pleasant enough to eat I have 7 white with crimson centre's and more recently a couple of near black which should flower for the first time the plants do like it to be hot before they flower.

Melissa, thank you so much for all the seed company suggestions and for reminding me about stratification, I had forgotten about that. I probably have the oddest questions you're ever going to get, but I just need to ask. Because we are also supposed to be God's stewards, has anyone (besides myself that is) ever thought to plant a garden just for the animals, well away from our own gardens? I have often thought about this, especially after watching all these documentaries about the starving animal world. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. Blessings to you always ~SuzyJC-in-Pataskala-Ohio/USA_01.21.2022~

I grow little gardens for the squirrels/chipmunks, our ducks/chickens and for the rabbits. I’ve found that if I feed them they don’t eat the stuff in my garden. I also get joy out of seeing them hanging around eating. We also started a very large worm compost bin so when we start getting extra worms I’ll throw those out for the birds to eat too. I also let my daughter throw out a handful of sunflower seeds or oat groats each morning so she and our Husky can watch them through the windows. I make sure there is water of different heights in the summer so they all have fresh water to drink. I believe we are supposed to care for animals and be kind to them myself so I don’t find your question odd 😁

I would love if you could do a video about how you deal with the rain, how you protect your crops, any varieties that work better or any tips or tricks would be fantastic? Melissa!! I can't over express how much I enjoy your videos. I'm sorry to say it's been sort of recently that I've discovered you but I'm taking in all I can! I am hoping to start a medicine garden this year and have several seeds already! I really appreciated this video and cued off on something you said as it relates to something I've been searching to determine!! >>>>> When it comes to medicinal plants, flowers specifically, do varieties change the efficacy? In other words, is it just as effective to choose varieties that are aesthetically appealing (pretty colors)?! I will gladly prioritize function over beauty, but if I can have both... I mean why not?! I just worry that getting varieties of medicinal flowers that I think are prettier may impair their efficacy. Any advice will be an enormous relief! Keep up the great work - I can't wait to continue to discover your bounty of treasures!

Great question, my research shows it's mainly variety dependent, meaning echinacea purpea or echinacea angustifolia both have medicinal properties so if it's that specific varieties you're fine but if it just says coneflower or echinacea without the specification then it's likely not as strong medicinally. I look at which particular latin variety the studies are done with when choosing

It's not hard to believe at all. Doctors are ordered to not discuss ANY form of natural healing and are under NDA's that prevent them from admitting their hands are tied. We've already seen the sensorship in regards to alternatives to address covid, even through they have been proven to be effective. Now you can clearly see that those in power will only tolerate complete control over what we eat and how we are healed, although big pharm has not cured a single thing since polio, and even that is now being questioned. They feed us crap GMO food that diminishes our natural ability to fight off illness, thus making us sick, and then profit by feeding us toxic meds with a wide range of side effects that require even more meds. Our corporate government has intentionally been trying to create "customers for life".

They put up t posts with a wire 2ft and 4 ft high around their new trees….it’s been a year and the deer have not bothered their trees….. I saw one gardener plants different heights of plants next to his fencing and since deer can’t judge what’s on the other side they are discouraged to jump…..our deer leave the scrub pines alone and munch on my better pines…..with so many it’s impossible to spray them….

I have ordered quality seeds to star my medicinal garden. I’m a good gardener and have grown herbs but more for cooking. My big concern is where and how to plant. As an example I don’t want to plant things next to each other that shouldn’t be next to each other or things that need room to spread or self seed I don’t want to close to something else and I don’t know if things will cross breed with each other or not I want to till up a section of my yard so it’s all in one spot as far as things that I would use for medicinal purposes look and I still have a lot of pollinators and different flowers I plant down in my garden for specific reasons like helping with Polynesian and with attracting certain healthy garden helpers and for the tree rabbits and things like that and cooking herbs and stuff but I’m worried I’d I plant them in bunches or rows or something I may mess it help. How can I find advice on how to plant for spacing and what they can grow next to? Any tips would be so appreciated

My lavender and rosemary and thyme are doing great. But chamomile just won't thrive. I am in North West Europe, on sandy soil. Not too cold, not too hot. Not too wet and not too dry. Why won't my chamomile grow? I sow them, and I get maybe 3 or 4 starts, and they stay small.

I really love your videos. So right off the git go, I wanted to say that. On this one though, no thumbs down though. 😉You kind of lost me with the cold stratification terminology. And then having to count those days. Felt kind of lost. Maybe just explain what that is. Tks

Cold stratification is a process of mimicking winter by placing the seeds into a cold environment, like fridge, for a period of time. It helps the seeds germinate.

Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty. Psalm 104:1 KJV He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth; Psalm 104:14 KJV For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16 KJV Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6 KJV He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. John 3:36 KJV And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. John 17:3 KJV Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: John 11:25 KJV Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38 KJV For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5:21 KJV For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23 KJV That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Romans 10:9 KJV Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20 KJV Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the Lord he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else. Deuteronomy 4:39 KJV And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21 KJV Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Isaiah 55:6 KJV Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. Isaiah 55:7 KJV I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: Isaiah 45:5 KJV And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. Acts 16:31 KJV He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3:18 KJV Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord. Acts 3:19 KJV Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else. You have repeatedly use the term “stratification”. I believe what you mean is “vernalization”. Stratification is the classification or grouping of plants or anything else. Vernalization is the term describing when a plant, seed, bulb, etc, needs to be exposed to cold or freezing temps in order to grow properly the following season. I hope you see this post though it is a year later. Be well.

Well Oxford definition of stratification says: the placing of seeds close together in layers in moist sand or peat to preserve them or to help them germinate. I'm using the term correctly
